    Fire Dr Pepper

The Dr Pepper that was served to me was absolutely life changing. It's literally felt like drinking water out of a glacier. The immersive experience while drinking this ice cold Dr Pepper could make a grown man cry. Astonishing work. Did take like 20 minutes to make it but well worth it.

Food coming out piping hot on sizzle plate. This place is always packed when I go but we are always taken care of quickly. Authentic Mexican feel.

I came in for a late lunch/early dinner. It's in a strip mall with loads of parking. Inside is nice, typical older mexican restaurant feel..kind of dated, but clean. Chips and salsa were set down. I ordered guacamole, and a carne asada burrito combo. The guacamole was just ok... it had some flavor, but not a whole lot. The burrito came with mole sauce on it (love that) rice and beans. The meat was ok, a little over salted... the mole was real good. I liked the rice with peas and a little potato. Beans were pretty average. Service was a little slow. But overall, ok. I'm giving 4 stars, but it was more 3.5.

I honestly really like this place. You can always find a seat in here and they have rotating specials each day. The day we went you got a small free queso! They also do 2 for 1 small margs on certain days. I had the pollo loco, which is essentially rice, chicken and some veggies doused in queso, which was delicious! My friends both had quesadillas that they enjoyed too. This is a good option for Mexican food on the West Bank!

Compared to El Patron... service is about the same. Maybe a little better. Food is not up to par. Hot sauce is spicier so imo, better. I came for taco Tuesday. Almost all tacos are $1, even their fish. They also serve complimentary chips and salsa. Lengua - seasoned well. Didn't have any funny after taste and they filled the tacos up. Barbacoa - not done with pork. I think it might be done with goat. It was very gamy. My dining companions did not mind, but I was not expecting it so I didn't enjoy this taco. even the hot sauce couldn't save it. Carne asada - extremely dry. Would not order again. Pastor - everyone at the table's favorite. Done well. Seasoned well. Nice and juicy. Chorizo cheese dip - they don't do this as well as El Patron but the cost is only a fraction. So try it if you're wanting a dip. Guacamole - better than El Patron. Might need a little more lime. Overall, not sure I'd choose this place over El Patron as they are basically in the same area. Not bad. Maybe I'll come back for happy hour or during a Saints game.

Los Compadres is located on Highway 23 in Gretna. The food & service is very good. We love there PolloLoco. It is a chicken & rice dish. Grilled chicken, Mexican rice, cheese, & Pico de gallo. Is also is served with flour tortillas. The portions are very large. Our server Gabbi is very nice & alway very helpful.

4 different tacos (chorizo, carnitas, pastor, and barbacoa)

Came on cinco de Mayo. There was extremely loud music playing outside. Had to get the party started I guess. We were promptly seated and brought chips and salsa. Salsa was ok. Chips did not taste very good. Like maybe they were old or the grease they were fried in was old. We ordered the Speedy Gonzales dip. It was pretty good. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas. It was too sweet and had no taste of tequila. Do not recommend getting pitchers. We were brought free shots of house tequila. These were half shots. I poured mine into my margarita. Much better! I ordered 4 tacos: pastor, carnitas, chorizo, and barbacoa. The pastor and carnitas were kinda dry. Chorizo was good. Barbacoa was great! Service was slow. Things were being forgotten. Food was ok. Some of this I can understand because it was cinco de Mayo. Very crazy day for Mexican restaurants. Some of it is just the restaurant. Probably won't return

When you go to a restaurant it is mostly about the food, right? The food was okay, but mostly bland. If you put enough salsa on it the taste improved. The salsa was good. The chips were a bit thick, hard, and tasted of the oil in which they were fried. The salsa was good and made them palatable. We had the sample platter as an appetizer. It seemed as if it was still frozen when we came in. I had the L5 'Pepe's' Chili Relleno & Beef Taco. The chili relleno was good but a bit bland. The beef taco was just like the Taco Bell special. The refried beans and rice were good. My wife had the L13 Fajitas Special. She liked them. A good 'tell' as to if the food is authentic mexican food is how many mexicans are eating there. There were no mexicans eating there. The atmosphere was nice, somewhat authentic, colorful & circus like. Our waitress, Monica, was nice & good. A big negative is that they charge you to use a credit card and it is not disclosed until after they charge you for using your credit card.

I'm going to start this review with the service I received. Ashley was my Waitress and she was absolutely awesome. Very attentive with great knowledge of the Menu. I have been searching for an authentic Mexican Restaurant in New Orleans with a Flashlight in the day time. Today I'm happy to say, "I found it". Los Compadres is not close to my house but I will be taking a trip across the River every opportunity I get. The Restaurant had a good vibe and decorated tastefully in a Mexican theme. Imagine when I found out today that they observe Tuesdays, as Taco Tuesday and Tacos are $1.00. I had Brisket, Carne Asada and Carnitas Tacos. Off the charts was the flavor. Real street style Tacos. Just delicious. It was Happy Hour so I took one for the team by having 2 Lime Margaritas that we're 2 for the price of 1. SCOORE! Cplace on the West Bank serving great Mexican food and making people smile. I will be back.

I was having one of my burrito cravings when I realized I had never been to the newest Mexican restaurant on the Westbank, so I headed over to Los Compadres at about 11 am. Hey, when the burrito monster asks to be fed, it doesn't matter what time it is. There was no one else in the place, probably because they had just opened for the day, so I was seated in a booth and tended to immediately. I liked that chips and salsa was dropped on the table and the salsa was kind of thick and actually pretty good. I was impressed. I decided to get the burrito supreme with chicken and it came topped with all the goods- lettuce, tomato, guac and sour cream. I also got some rice and beans on the side; more on that later. The burrito was great! It was HUGE and packed with chicken, rice, cheese, beans and had a lot of flavor. In the future I'm going to get all of the "toppings" on the side. The waitress asked me if I wanted all of it on the burrito, but it's a lot to get through when you really only want the burrito itself. The rice and beans were okay, but for $2 each, I expected more. The rice was pretty dry and flavorless and the beans seemed like they came from a can. I felt like $4 was a bit of a rip off for what I got, but now I know. Service was excellent and I like what they've done with the place. OG Westbankers will remember this location as the former Cuco's and it pretty much has the same vibe and feel as it always has. They packed a pretty good burrito, so I'd probably go back.

    Enchiladas Verdes

Our first time here and we enjoyed our experience immensely! All the salsas and sauces are homemade, including the queso. Our waitress, Fiorella, was the friendliest and most attentive server we've had in a while. The chips and homemade salsa were great, I love it when the chips are warm, it's the small details that really make a difference. My husband had the NOLA burrito which was excellent, he said, and I enjoyed my enchiladas verde. The verde salsa was a little on the sour side, my only complaint, which isn't truly a complaint. My husband asked for a spicy salsa and despite a warning from our waitress, she delivered and he regretted! :) Apparently they have live music every other Friday night and on special occasions as well. All in all it was a great experience and we will definitely be back soon. We search high and low for a great Mexican restaurants and this one, finally, did not disappoint. **UPDATE** Went back for a second experience which was completely opposite. Our server was extremely sloooooooooowwwwww, we didn't get our drinks refilled in the entire meal and the food was merely adequate. Guess we'll have to find a new favorite place. :(

I went to El Patron for my mother's birthday and we spent so much money on yt washed food. LITERALLY the queadailla was two regular tortillas with cheese and folded..the margaritas swirl was so diluted. The mandority tipping made me mad because the servers was so bad..everything was awful READ Los Comprades are waaaay better than El Patron. Recently moving from Cali where the Mexican food is authentic and cheap, this place is your best bet. The drinks are great..got a tiny bit tipsy after sharing the alcoholic Horchata with my bf and pairing it with my drink. The al pastor tacos are so good. I literally had El patrons tacos and It was dry and as. I also tried the torta burrito and quesadillas from Los Comprades...literally no complaints. I hate the music and environment El Patron tries to create, trying to bring the Mexican aesthetic instead the authenticity..it literally made for non latinos

Stop here recently for lunch and it was pretty decent but not over the top. I had a soup of which I don't know exactly what it was other than that it is a traditional Mexican soup and it was really good. I also had chick fajitas and they were below average. I would definitely go back and have more soup but think I'll skip the fajitas next time.

Large waiting area to stand and wait near the hostess station. Also has a bar area which looks like first come, first serve. We ordered drinks while we waited and hung out in the lobby area. Finally we were sat. Complimentary chips and salsa were brought right away. We Ordered drinks and the chorizo queso, which came fairly quickly. The queso is HOT, bubbling in a volcanic rock molcajete. Sooo good. Strongly suggest this item! I ordered the Tacos Tijuana (lengua). My husband ordered grilled fish tacos and an ala carte cheese quesadilla. The food was great. Lengua was a little dry- I know it's lean but it was not as juicy and gamey as I like. No other complaints except the guacamole that came with my tacos tasted artificial or "off". It also stayed very green throughout the meal which tells me there is either a lot of lemon or it is premade with something to make it not oxidate like fresh avocados. It was just not great guacamole. The frijoles charro on the other hand were excellent! Lots of flavor, pork, cooked nicely and seasoned well. I could eat that by itself. I will for sure be back.

Today I wanted something different and inexpensive. I checked Yelp, saw it was right there, and had to talk myself into it because I eat tacos ALL the time... like I'm lowkey taco'd out. But something about authentic tacos on corn from a lil shack like this? They hit different. So I went with my move. I looked at the menu and saw tongue tacos... and that sold me Mind you, I NEVER had tongue before. But I said I wanted something different, so let's stand on that. Pulled up around lunch--about 3 people waiting. There's an option to call ahead too. I waited a few minutes, but they acknowledged me quick, and you could tell they were working, so I wasn't tripping. Ordered 3 tacos: tongue (of course), shredded beef, and pork. Threw in pupusas because why not--it's been years. And a melon juice. Total was about $29, got my number, waited maybe 8-10 minutes. When they handed me the bag... it had a little weight on it I already knew. I ate in my car since there's no real inside seating, and started with the pork taco. Now listen... pork tacos can be DRY. I don't really order them for that reason. But THIS one?? Juicyyyyy. Like juices-on-my-shirt type juicy (I'm too grown for that ). Flavor was there, shredded perfect--they changed my whole outlook on pork tacos. Then I tasted the other two because they looked similar. First one ended up being the tongue... and babyyyy. Tender. Soft. It reminded me of goat--real rich and flavorful. I can't even believe I tried it, let alone LIKED it. I'm officially sold. The beef was good too, but after that tongue taco? It was hard to compete, I'm not even gonna lie. That red salsa? Flavorful with a kick. I love spice... but spice don't always love me back Still worth it. The melon juice started off a little grainy (you can tell it's real fruit), but once it settled, it smoothed out. Super refreshing. Now them pupusas... I did NOT expect two. That's why the bag felt like that Stuffed with meat and cheese, crispy on the outside, soft inside. Came with the pickled cabbage/carrot mix and that tomato-based sauce--everything worked together. Not spicy, just balanced. Only thing I'd note--no prices listed, but for everything I got (plus that big 32oz drink), it was honestly worth it.
