Los Incas - How I felt eating - Peruvian Near Me - O'Fallon, Missouri

Celebrated my SIL's birthday here this weekend. It was our second time eating here, and the food was just as flavorful and filling as I remembered it. Our table of eight had a variety of meals. Some started with the beef empanadas as their starter. We had the Chicha Morada - a traditional Peruvian beverage made from dried purple corn (maíz morado), pineapple, apples, cinnamon, and cloves, often sweetened with sugar and brightened with lime juice. This unique sweet, fruity, and spiced flavor, is a staple in Peru. I had the Arroz con Mariscos: Peruvian style rice paella; creamy yellow pepper sauce mixed with shrimp, calamari, scallops, mussels, red peppers and aromatic cilantro. A flavor party in your mouth! Plenty for two people or to share if you do family style. I also had a side of Yuca fries - definitely get the yuca fries! The arroz con mariscos is part of the Trio Marino: Sampler plate of Arroz con Mariscos Ceviche de Pescado and Chicharrón de Pescado. The Ceviche is mouth watering good. Our "no seafood" family member even likes it - that says a lot. We also had Arroz con Pollo: Tender chicken simmered with fragrant cilantro-infused rice, peas, carrots and spices. Served with salsa criollo. And a Ceviche Traditional: Mahi Mahi marinated in lime juice, spicy peppers and fresh cilantro, served w red onions/corn/sweet potato plate. Flavor is definitely infused throughout all the food. Other plates (not pictured) were Lomo Saltado, Arroz Chaufa, and Aji de Gallina. There were no complaints from anyone at the table. Though some did comment that though their food was good, they would probably order something different next time. It never hurts to explore a menu to the fullest! This is my second favorite Peruvian restaurant in the area. The octopus was very good and service was great although I was only one of three tables. I've been feeling a desire to eat at the restaurants of our Latin American brothers and sisters out of a desire to connect with and support them during this awful time in our national history and because of my own cluelessness over an appropriate and effective way to help. I encourage everyone to consider doing the same. That being said, Los Incas is a wonderful, casual family restaurant with exceptionally friendly service and great food that I would love to eat more often under any circumstance. I think this was my second experience with Peruvian food and I look forward to a lot more. You will not be disappointed. I wish I'd taken pics of more of the dishes we had. read more

Was out venturing O Fallon, MO and happened upon another hidden gem. Los Incas serves up some great Peruvian cuisine that is truly unique and delicious. Located is a small strip mall Los Incas has plenty of seating to accommodate any group but do recommend calling ahead to pick in your party. They do offer live music on Saturday night as well as drink specials. We were greeted quickly and were able to get our drink order while we reviewed the menu. Dishes are served with either potato Ms or seasoned rice. I ordered the arroz con pollo (Chicken and rice) and lomo Saltado a delicious blend of chicken and vegetables, rice, fried potatoes . Prices were very reasonable and service was excellent and gave us privacy to enjoy our meal. WOW!!! Great food and service and worth a visit from wherever you may live!! - - - We visited Los Incas for the first time today and were VERY impressed and we will go back! Our soccer team plays on Thursdays and some of us met today for Sunday lunch. Two of the team members are from Peru, they recommended Los Incas, and the rest of us are thankful they did... great food and great friendship today. The one team member shared that Los Incas works hard to ship in from Peru some of the ingredients... and it is noticeable... flavors and things we have not had before. One of the group enjoyed the beef stew - Seco a La Nortena, with rice and beans. Another enjoyed the chicken - Aji de Gallina, with special cheese sauce and potatoes. One had the beef tongue special - we all tried it and were amazed... if you tried it without knowing, you would surely realize it is beef and you may or may not determine it was the tongue... and it was so tender and flavorful... wow! Two of the group had the ceviche - with octopus, shrimp and an amazing sauce. I enjoyed the beef Lomo Saltado - beef with onions and tomatoes, with and amazing sauce, and fried and rice. - - - Corn... three corn items to note... - - - 1) The cevice had special corn.. it looked sort of like a greenish kidney bean in shape and size AND it was not a bean but a corn kernel... the largest kernel we had ever seen... and quite tasty. 2) In addition there was a bowl of dry corn, roasted and salted, to be enjoyed as-is or soaked in the ceviche broth - we enjoyed them both ways. 3) And for drink... a drink made from purple corn kernels soaked and squeezed for their juice - good, all natural fruit juice. - - - Location: in O'Fallon, MO, on Highway K, about a half mile north of I-64 / Hw 40... ... less than 5 minutes from the Daniel Boone Bridge ... and less than 10 minutes from any part of the Chesterfield Valley - definitely a short drive that is well rewarded by enjoying some of the best tasting food you can get in St. Louis!! - - - There are many other items in the menu and we look forward to returning to try them all. Saturday evening late meal, found you on Google and confirmed the good reviews on Yelp and they were right! I had the whole grilled fish with yucca fries. The fish was perfectly prepared- nice crispy skin with flaky meat. And the yucca fries were yummy! My partner had beef over rice with peas and carrots. Super tender and beautifully flavored. Our only frustration was the live band was so loud we couldn't talk at all. They were super peppy and fun, but so loud. A Peruvian person recommended this restaurant saying it was the best Peruvian food in STL. We got the sampler that had fried fish, Yuka fries, seafood rice, and ceviche! It was outstanding. I had her order for us so I did not look at the menu. We also got Los Lomos Saltado, which was super delicious! My son has a dairy allergy and although lomos saltado should not have dairy in it, he still didn't feel well, so may have some cross contamination. As a Cuban/Mexican American that was raised in SW Florida... Wow. Some of the best food I've had in my 32 years of life. I hope this place quickly becomes a staple for the local community and they realize what a hidden gem this restaurant really is. Celebrated my grandmas birthday here with my father and we were not disappointed. We ordered so much and every dish absolutely hit. The portions are generous, as well! Wow! What a great experience this was! My friend made reservations via Yelp (always a convenient addition to a night out) and we came in around 645. We had a table reserved (with a hand written sign- nice touch) and were seated immediately. The restaurant is small, so definitely recommend making one if you're planning on coming in! Drink menu is small, but it is authentic Peruvian! I cannot remember the drink I ordered and I don't see a drink menu listed on the website, but it was a less sweet option. It was bubbly and refreshing! Our table got several options of appetizers to try including papa a la huancaina, and causa limena, and papa rellena. My favorite was the causa limena which was creamy layers of mashed potato filled with shredded chicken, chopped veggies, and mayo. I liked it because the quality was so great and I've never had anything like it before! For entrees, our table (of 7) got a ton of food. I personally ordered the arroz con pollo. My friend ordered the lolo Saltado and we split. I loved the arroz con pollo the most out of the two (although both were delicious). The chicken was tender and flavorful, and it was served on a bed of rice that was cooked in cilantro sauce. I was looking for a Peruvian restaurant for a while and landed on this spot. We went there little early on a Friday afternoon for lunch. Place is really clean. After you order, they will give free Peruvian corn and sauce. Everything is made to order and I remember one dish when we asked for to go , they are still making it which explains things are not pre made. Fish/shrimp fry: very fresh. Crispy and warm. Pairs well with the cilantro based sauce. But I like it with the sauce that has been given with corn. Not spicy. Lomo saltado: very juicy beef with veggies. Not spicy at all. Dessert: crema volteda: Tasted like flan cake. great. Plenty of parking. Overall: I like this place and will come back. Wow! My wife suggested that we try this place and although I was a bit skeptical, I am so glad that she did. The food and service were both exceptional! My wife ordered a seafood paella, Arroz con Mariscos, and I ordered the Chicharron de Pescado. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic. We were the only customers while we were there, so we didn't have any service issues! The margaritas are made to order and served without ice, but still refreshingly cold with the right amount of lime. Plantain chips with a spicy dipping sauce and salted corn kernels , similar to "corn nuts" were served. I had the Loma Saltado and my wife had an empanada. Both were delicious and served quickly. The seating is not crowded so when they have more customers, you wont feel crowded. Since we were the only customers, we asked that the music volume be lowered so we could talk easily and they were happy to do so for us. This is a comfortable, casual restaurant that's on the pricey side for lunch. We had plenty of space as Los Incas wasn't overly busy around 1pm. We two were warmly greeted by staff, which asked if we'd ever had Peruvian food before. We hadn't, so our server explained a bit, answered our questions, and walked away without taking our drink orders. The 10 entrees started at $20, so the first thing we noticed was we'd be spending about $50 for lunch. We asked: There were no lunch specials. We ended up splitting the most popular dish on the menu, Lomo Saltado. That was tender steak strips stir fried with vegetables--or, the Peruvian version of a fajita without tortillas. It was enough for two since we weren't hungry. Plain white rice and French fries came with the meal. The fries were hand cut and not American style crispy but limp. That's an observation, not criticism since you have to accept the authenticity of foods when visiting ethnic eateries. Overall, the meal was satisfactory but not exceptional. The same could be said about the service. We left wondering if we'd try Los Incas again. I suspect we won't. The lunch prices for casual dining were off putting, and there was nothing that "wowed" us for a return visit. read more

I love trying new places, so when we drove past this new Peruvian restaurant, I had to try it! We walked in to a mostly empty restaurant, but that didn't deter us. The dining room is colorful & inviting and we were greeted quickly. We ordered glasses of chicha morada, papa rellena, lomo soltado and arroz con pollo and we loved it all. The lomo soltado - steak with peppers & onions, fries & rice - was our favorite. We'll definitely be back to try more of their options, especially since the manager greeted us and was very interested in our feedback. We came in during dinner time on weekday so it wasn't really busy. There was only 1 person taking order and serving all the tables. It was a bit of the wait but it's understandable. I would say service was amazing since my waiter still try his best to check on us and refill our water. I liked that the menu showed some items as gluten-free/dairy free. They also had kid items. Visited for the first time after thoroughly reviewing the menu options and descriptions. Chose the touted fish stew (Sudado Pescado). They forgot to mention that it was a whole fish with the head and all the bones. You never leave fish bones to hide in stew gravy and vegetables. Tasty they were, but picking the bones out was a mess and the fish not very meaty at all. I was expecting fish chucks with no bones. Change the recipe or change the menu description. I honestly decided to go there with low expectations because I have not had good experiences with peruvian restaurants in the midwest, however, the experience at Los Incas was great. All the food that we tried was very good: the ceviche, the anticuchos (very tender), the jalea, tamales, picarones, alfajores and the pisco sour. The service was very good too. The wait was worth it. The waitress and the owner Rafael were very kind and care very much about the customers. The ambience was very welcoming and comfortable with nice peruvian music (just the perfect volume) so we could feel like being in a little piece of Peru. I definitely recommend it. Wow. Absolutely the worst service I have ever seen. For a table of 7, the meals were delivered one by one over a period of 30 minutes. Many delivered lukewarm. Mojitos apparently have no alcohol. My husband and I had never eaten Peruvian food so we were intrigued and gave it a try and oh my goodness t is one of the best meals we've had! It was excellent!! My meal was very flavorful and well-prepared, so just based on the food quality alone, I'd give it 5 stars. The interior of the restaurant is very basic and the walls of the restaurant which you can sit around can function as a booth seat. For ambiance, I give it 3 stars. However, there was likely about 4 oz. total of beef in the meal and the rest of it was much cheaper items like beans and rice and a small portion of other vegetables. Therefore, there was a small portion of the more expensive part of the meal, but decent-sized portions of the much cheaper portion of the meal (the beans and rice). A typical sized adult male with medium hunger will likely not need a to-go box if they just get an entree. I was not pleased at the price of $22, as the price seems to be on the order of 10 to 20% higher than it should be for what was prepared and served. Based on price and value, I'd give it 2 stars. read more
