Bistec a la mexicana with jalapeños, onions, & tomato sauce.

Best Mexican grill in Montclair. We got there 10 min. Before they closed. They were pleasant and happy to prepare a fresh dish for us. We had the Bistec a la mexicana with jalapeños, onions, & tomato sauce. It was enough food for two people. Freshly prepared in front of us. Inexpensive (with a coke under $15), fresh, yummy and great owners.

Good, well priced food made to order. The chicken dish usually comes w beans but I asked for double rice and they accommodated my request.

There was a tamale here but we devoured it... Got a chicken mole and a chicken with salsa verde. Highly recommend

SO. GOOD. Simple, no frills place. A few tables inside - seems like a mainly to-go place. But the food - that's what this review is about. We got a chicken burrito, and tamales. Tamales: [drool face emoji] tender, flavorful, and it's hard to find tamales! They may not always have them, as they weren't on the menu, but dang if they do, they're worth it. We got chicken with salsa verde, and chicken with mole sauce. Burrito: grilled the chicken and veggies, that we added to the burrito, fresh. That says something. Then it was grilled/ pressed to warm, compact, goodness. You can tell when a burrito is wrapped with love and care and this was one of them.

I've come here twice now, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Both visits were great. My most recent visit I ordered the Gallo chicken quesadilla for takeout and it was perfect. My order was ready in about 10min and came out piping hot and fresh. The quesadilla was a really good size and had a good portion of chicken. The tortilla was perfectly crisp without being greasy. I appreciated that the lady walked out from behind the back of the counter to hand and me my food when it was ready. The restaurant space is small and the temperature was pretty warm inside but I really enjoyed the food. Will definitely be back to satisfy those Mexican food cravings!

VERY simple looking from the outside but extremely inviting atmosphere and decor when you get in. It is street parking only on a busy main street. I got lucky and scored a spot directly in front of the restaurant on this rainy evening. We started with the Quesadilla with steak in a corn tortilla. This is what really brought it down from 5 to 4 stars. Keep in mind, this was the equivalent to our appetizer, so we were very nervous after this. Extremely lack luster. Disappointingly little steak and even less cheese. It was as if we were eating a piece of a corn tortilla. Avoid the quesadilla. We then shared an order of enchiladas. Things were getting better. Enchiladas were solid. Nice kick to the green sauce with pieces of pineapple to hit you with a left hook. Came with rice and beans as well. This could've been a meal but we decided to share this to try different things. The burrito was the final thing on the menu. I got the Al Pastor burrito and it was excellent. Very tasty and well put together. Only thing that struck me odd was that it came with French fries opposed to rice and beans. I kind of would've enjoyed it a lot more with the rice and beans as the fries were average at best. I ordered online as I was stuck in traffic and everything was ready when I got there, which was prior to the estimated pickup time. All in all, very solid meal and there's plenty of seating if you're looking to dine in as well.

The guacamole appetizer was great. Margaritas had slightly too much ice, but were delicious. Good beer selection and menu was great. Stand outs was the mole chicken - that sauce was amazing ! The steak on a hot stone was great. The fish and tacos were also great. dessert was great too. The owner / chef Franklin even stopped by our table - great vibe overall. Try it, you'll love it. Not your typical Tex/Mex joint.

I want to like this place, but I've been here twice now and it just misses the mark and is so far…read morefrom being authentic. For starters, we had guacamole and chicken flautas. The guacamole didn't taste fresh at all and the chicken in the flautas had no flavor. For dinner, I had the enchiladas suizas. The chicken was the same chicken used in the flautas aka flavorless and the tomatillo "salsa" did not taste like salsa at all. It actually tasted more like the "avocado mousse" that the flautas were drenched in. My husband had the carnitas michoacan and he said they were just okay/super greasy/wouldn't get them again. Both our meals were supposed to come with rice and beans, but they only bought one side for us to share. When I looked around the restaurant, it seemed like they only bring one side per table regardless of party size. This to me is a rip off especially since this place is pricey. My 2 year old was also with us and we got him chicken fingers and fries from their very limited kids options. When I asked if he can have rice and beans instead of fries, they said no. You're a Mexican restaurant - maybe put a taco option with rice and beans on the kids menu. For dessert, we got tres leches- it was fine. The only other things ordered were a cocktail and a beer. We waited SOOOO long to get the bill and even longer for someone to come back to take our payment. With tip included- our total was about $180. That is very steep for the quality and quantity of food. Sadly, I don't think we will return.

The staff were very kind to my children and service was attentive, the busboy/girl, waiter, and bartender were all quick to help whenever we needed something. We tried the brisket nachos for the first time and they were delicious. The jalapeños were a bit too spicy for my taste, but the dish overall was still great. I had the shrimp tacos again, which were juicy and flavorful. My husband tried the asada tacos but felt they weren't as flavorful as the churrasco he had during our last visit, though he did enjoy the cilantro lime rice. For the kids, we ordered chicken tenders, white rice, and tostones. The tenders were soft and easy to eat, and the kids loved them. Happy hour margaritas were $10. I had the passionfruit on the rocks and it was delicious. My husband switched from a frozen mango (too sweet) to mango on the rocks and liked it much better. Bonus for families: the bathrooms are spacious and they have changing tables. Overall, a great experience and we'd come back again.

I ordered the following items: * Passionfruit Frozen Margarita * Shrimp Ceviche * Churrasco (8oz Skirt Steak) * Black Beans * Cilantro Lime Rice * Tres Leches Cake The frozen drink tasted amazing. The shrimp ceviche was tasty and fresh. The skirt steak was seasoned and grilled to perfection. The rice and beans, however, were both underwhelming. The flavor was lacking in both side dishes. I ordered two sides of the Roja Ahumada salsa to enhance each bite. The cake was decent; the taste reminded me a bit of a pound cake. The restaurant's ambiance was incredibly gorgeous. The staff members were hospitable, attentive, and kind. All in all, the entire experience was up to par. I'd say that I wish the menu offered more dishes, as the options seemed limited. I would still come here again in the future.
