We drove along ways to take advantage of the Happy Hour... Also, their website mentioned it was an historical restaurant, home of a famous silent movie star. Surprised there was nothing historical, no pictures about the owners or Tom Mix. It had a very unique atmosphere, I felt I was in Mexico. I liked it. Also, there was no Happy Hour menu on the table... so we ordered some great dishes, good food. But we did order drinks and specifically asked about Happy Hour, and were told yes all the drinks were Happy Hour prices at 5:00... But when we got the bill, the waitress told us the drinks we had were not Happy Hour size.... I must say the service wasn't great either, hard to find a waitress and I must have asked 3 different people to bring me a take out box. My son and daughter-in-law took me to Los dos Molinos for my birthday during lunch. I've always been interested in trying the food and checking out the building..... for the restaurant has incorporated a part of history. The place started as the ranch home to Hollywood actor, Tom Mix. It was cool to imagine what the area looked like in the 1930's. The food was superb and our waiter was prompt. I had the drink of the day, their version of a Long Island ice tea and it was tasty and dangerous.... Tasted just like a cold refreshing ice tea but you could feel the alcohol once you went to stand! The menu was s marked with a chile on the spicy dishes. We were brought two different salsa's: one was good with a kick and the other kicked you before you even tasted it (spicy!!). After our meal and settled the bill, we wondered around the place being looky loo's. Has a beautiful courtyard with tables, chairs and an outside bar. An older building marked "Cantina" with another bar area with ample seating when in use. I was born and raised in New Mexico. I was so excited to eat here because I can make this cuisine at home from scratch but wanted a taste of NM that someone else prepared for me. Extremely disappointing.... Not sure what that red chile was but it is not from NM. The entire meal was disgusting. The blue corn tortillas were thick like hockey pucks served cold and literally no cheese in the middle only two thick gross blue corn tortillas layered with garnish over the top( I ordered blue corn cheese enchiladas) I left most if it on the plate and the server never asked me if I was unhappy with the meal just cleared the table and gave us a big bill for bad food. Disappointing. Our motorcycle group rode to Dobbins Lookout and decided to stop in for lunch. Mind you were a club that raises money for charities not disrespectful. We arrived and we were met with an unwelcome attitude and immediately told (we didn't ask) with a party of 9 they WILL NOT split the check. Decided ok, we'll accept that but then they asked us to wait outside while they figure out where to seat us. Just gave a vibe they didn't like riders coming in as it may tarnish their restaurant. I placed two separate online reservations (it only allowed up to 7 people, and I needed a table for 13) and it said someone would be contacting me. The first reservation they canceled, but I was contacted about the second. I told them it would be AT MOST 13 people for 6:45 but weather was impacting a few of my guests travel from the White Mountains. The phone call I received was around 4, and my wedding would be happening between the hours of the call and the reservations. Whoever I spoke to was very rude and said he's not going to make the reservation unless I give him a definitive number and to call back so again, I said, 13! He stated that there were people who had made reservations months and months in advance, and they close at 8 etc etc. which made me believe that our business wasn't of value. So I asked him was he going to take our business or should we go elsewhere. He went ahead and made the reservation after all. Fast forward....half our party arrived right on time and was met with "you'll all have to fit right there that's the only space we have available " which was fine. Whatever...the other half of our party arrived within 10minutes. 5 of my guests NEVER received drinks, it took 40 minutes for any one to take our orders, the wait for food wasn't nearly as long. However, I did order a margarita when the waitress took our orders and didn't receive it until I asked for it, and even then I was almost finished with dinner. Two of my guest shared a meal and they never brought us an extra plate, even after asking. Service here has drastically gone down hill. The only thing good here now is the food. Friends and family took care of the bill, and I heard that was another nightmare! It was disheartening to leave this review, as I've been a lifelong customer of Los Dos Molinos. The old Springerville location holds fond memories for me. I use to frequent the south central location, but after our experience here recently I think I'll spend money elsewhere! read more

So goooood. We came here Saturday night for dinner with a reservation for 7. Got seated right away and they had a table arranged to accommodate us all. We had all been here before so we weren't playing around when it came time to order. 2 pitchers of the kick ass margarita and majority got the enchilada dinners. Chips and salsa to start off obviously. Food came out pretty quick for a busy and packed Saturday night at 6pm. Someone in he restaurant had a birthday so the staff came out banging pots and pans and the lights went out so they could light up the birthday dessert. It was neat and original. We are visiting the area from CA for a hockey tournament and stopped in for a post game meal and I'm really glad I did. Tbh I almost didn't because of some of the more recent reviews, but my family is so glad we ignored them. The music was loud, but not so loud we couldn't speak to each other... I'd say the ambience is festive. The service was pretty good. We got there at 7 and only waited a few minutes for a table. Our servers answered questions and took our orders without any problem and checked on us just the right amount. I think this is a pretty quiet area of PHX so maybe they don't stay open very late. When we arrived, the place was full, but when we left around 8:30 on a Saturday night, we were the last ones left. There were various regulars there who were chatting with the owner and imo, that's a good sign you are at a good place. I got the machaca burro. My kid got a deep fried ground beef burro with rice and beans, her favorite! And my husband got a deep fried bean and cheese burrito and a green chile enchilada. I got a cadillac fresh margarita and he got a prickly pear OG margarita. It was all very yummy and I thought the drinks were just the right amount of flavor and liquor. This little joint in worth seeking out! Quirky, Yes! Quality food, Yes! After a little hiking at South Mountain, we needed a snack so thought some chips and salsa quickly would solve the issue. WOW, these salsas are hotter than you usually get. Not complaining, but it should be noted. Service was fast and friendly and our entrees arrived in no time. Since we were going to a wedding later, most of our party of 6 ordered from the a la carte menu. Luckily the portions were still large enough to satisfy. Used to absolutely love this place and not mind driving 45 minutes to get there. Yesterday was a complete horror story. We had six in our party. Three of the six orders were wrong. Five of us were served over five minutes in the last person over 30 minutes later. Sadly, the last person had the same thing as one of the others so it wasn't like a fancy meal prep. We live in the Laveen area and used to come here regularly when they first opened. About 25 years ago?? This was an awesome place with outstanding food and the patio was always hopping with people, live entertainment and good drinks. Now............we haven't been here in years but decided not to venture far from home, and came in for dinner last night. I ordered the Green Chile Enchiladas with Carnitas and it was the worst Enchiladas I have EVER had. The corn tortilla was a small round tasteless cornmeal pancake that was like chalk. The Green Chile was not Green Chile, it was the same green salsa as served with the chips. The only thing any good on my plate was the Carnitas and there wasn't much of that. The rice was awful. Having ate at the Camelback location numerous times. My wife thought we should try this spot since it's the original location in Phoenix. Staff gave us great service throughout our dining experience. Unfortunately the food was not like the other locations. The salsa wasn't hot, the food lacked flavor and seasoning than what we are accustomed to experiencing. We went to eat here after a hike at South Mountain Preserve. Hostess was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious. My guy had the spicy garlic pork burrito combo plate. We used to eat at Los Dos 5 or 6 times a year. Traditionally the food, drinks and service was always well above average Moved away for about 5 years and have revisited twice. Both times since we've moved back have been very disappointing I ordered carnitas each ,which were all ways a favorite of mine, and each time it was so fatty it wasn't enjoyable. I picked through and got about 1/2 meat and 1/2 fat. I'm not a fussy eater, have traveled extensively and eaten at many a greasy spoon so biting into a little fat or gristle on some dishes happens and doesn't bother me. This amount of fat was far from acceptable. Others in the group who ordered tacos and burritos all enjoyed their meals. Drink prices everywhere have gone up but $40 for a pitcher of weak margaritas and tons of ice seems excessive Prices are high but that's the was everything is going these last few years I'll give it another try for tacos and a beer but don't plan on striking out by going 0 for 3 on carnitas here read more

My first ( but not last ) visit to Los Dos Molinos was damned satisfying. It's a fair drive from where we are in North Phoenix but let me tell you: it is worth the trip. The area has character in abundance, as does the restaurant itself. Housed in an old hacienda, reportedly formerly the property of silent film star Tom Mix, there is spacious yet cozy patio area reached after winding you way from the front door through the dim and equally cozy restaurant. The patio feels like the place to spend most of your time when the weather is milder. Despite the mild annoyance of a few harmless bees investigating our margaritas, it was just a great spot. We were immediately and pleasantly greeted by the staff and our waiter took the drink orders. We started with a pitcher of the house margarita, served in nicely large glasses, while checking out the menu and deciding what to eat. While deciding we, of course, enjoyed some chips and salsa. The salsa was your typical selection of red and green but definitely several cuts above average. Both had a good amount of fire to them, the red more so, without being overwhelming. For the meal I decided on the chimichanga combo, with chicken and green salsa. The serving was generous and really tasty. More than enough for a big guy like me. Having finished off our pitcher, T and I switched to the Sangria Margarita. These were seriously tasty. Served "frozen" they sport a nice, rich red color with hints of orange. Very flavorful. The service was just great. Our server was fun, informative and just plain happy and pleasant. The young ladies who brought us our meals and more chips and salsa were outgoing and friendly. Overall, just a great experience. Make it a point to stop in to Los Dos Molinos if you're venturing down Central, maybe to South Mountain. The decor is nicely eclectic and the whole vibe of the space is both intimate, cozy and cool. It is a little bit of a drive. However, if you have never driven to the top of South Mountain when you are in Arizona, you're missing out! Not that the restaurant is located there. It is however near the entrance to the park and you can catch it on the way in or out. South Mountain has breathtaking views of the valley and the photo opportunities at sunset are amazing. It gives you a whole new aspect on the Downtown Phoenix Skyline. Now about the restaurant. This place is quaint and authentic and offers a taste into great Mexican cuisine! The margaritas are large and tasty! Don't miss the Sangria Margarita (Twyla loved it!) The patio is cozy and friends are made easily during dinner conversation here. The food as a whole is awesome and it is our favorite of three locations to visit. I had the Green Chili Carne Burrito and a Machaca Taco. Both were wonderful. Our server was both funny and accommodating. If you have never ventured to the South side of town, don't be scared, they like to eat just like you and I. Los Dos is my "go to" any day or night of the week except Sunday's and Monday's when they are closed and is my favorite restaurant by far. My husband and I have been coming here for years and always bring out out of town family and friends. It's family owned and operated and everyone is so friendly and nice. Dress is casual wether dining inside or out and prices are reasonable. The food however is the main attraction and even though everything is delicious I order the "No. 1" every time, I can't help it it's that good! In hopes of finding the most spiciest food in Phoenix we were totally disappointed, no heat whatsoever and there was hardly any customer service, never once did our waiter come back and offer another drink or ask how our meal was.... so disappointing! I ordered 5 tacos and it came out to 30 dollars. The most expensive tacos I've ever had. And they tasted worse than the cheaper tacos I usually get. I figured I would try a new place. I ordered 3 soft shell tacos and 2 hard shell. Apparently soft shell tacos are a dollar more each which they did not even tell me when i was asked if I want soft or hard. 6 dollars per taco? Are you kidding me? The hard shell tacos were decent and the most expensive ones were the ones that were not good at all. They put ground beef tacos in a soft corn tortilla instead of flower. We usually visit the Los Dos Molinos in Mesa and absolutely LOVE everything about it. Last weekend we decided to drive a bit of distance to try the one in Phoenix, mainly because of their outdoor patio. When we got there we were told that we couldn't sit outside, so they sat us inside the restaurant. We waited quite awhile to even get acknowledge by staff members. When we finally got up to ask someone to help us, they came and took our drink order. I ordered a skinny margarita topped with a "splash" of soda water. I was told by the server that they would have to charge me for a full soda! I always order that at the one in Mesa and they would never charge me for a "splash" of soda in my drink. We asked for more salsa as their salsa comes in tiny cups, and we were told that we would have to purchase additional salsa. Never do we get charged for additional salsa at the one in Mesa. We ordered our food, and I decided to go with my usual burrito that I order in Mesa. I would say it was totally different, not as spicy. Needless to say, it was a bad experience all around and my group and I will never go back. We will definitely keep going to the Mesa location. read more
