Asada and pastor tacos (ordered plain) $1 apiece
    Allison F.

I was introduced to Los Dos Amigos by fellow Goldie Wally S. When he told me this food truck has $1 tacos, I almost didn't believe him. Delicious tacos made with fresh meat for less dinero than anything found at Taco Bell? I was weary but now I'm sold. The menu on the truck is in Spanish and English. The employees speak both languages as well, so no worries if you haven't practiced your Spanish since 10th grade. I have tried most of the meats by now but prefer their pork to everything else. Tacos are served street-style, with two corn tortillas that are sprinkled with cilantro and onions. I usually have them hold that noise and just get a little cheese instead. The quesadillas are excellent and a steal at only $2. You'll receive some meat, cheese, avocado and salsa sandwiched in a pressed flour tortilla. Mmmm. Jacob loves the ceviche. If you're thirsty, they have a selection of canned pop and bottled Jarritos, as well as horchata. Feeling daring? You can run to the liquor store across the street for adult beverages but be sure to ask for a paper bag, because drinking is public is illegal, yo! There is usually a canopy up next to the truck for shade along with four small tables. If you're into spicy stuff, look for the plastic container with onions and peppers and throw some on your food. I've raved about this place and even got my husband hooked. They're only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so get your fix when you can.

Awesome little gem in Detroit. With Tacos $1.25 and Quesadilla $2 you can't go wrong. Their quesadillas are flour with salsa, avocado, tomatoes, and cheese and are sooooo bomb!!!!!! Mmmmm .... them Steak quesadillas got me some type of way. Tacos are good and come with corn tortilla and are smothered with salsa and onions and other classic garnishes. Their steak, cabeza, and chorizo are hands down my fav in ranking order. They got classic Valentina and el yucateco hot sauce in both red and green 5 stars for price 5 stars quesadillas 4 stars tacos Overall 4.5 stars overall

Best tacos I've ever had, hands down. Ok, so I'm no taco aficionado, and there are tons of other places in SW that I've yet to try. But hot damn!! I had one each of the chicken, pork, and beef tacos, plus a ceviche. She had a beef quesadilla and two tacos. The meats were chopped fine and incredibly seasoned - especially the beef! It wasn't ground beef; it seemed almost like a pot roast cut. Super tender and wonderfully flavorful. The salsa was excellent - fresh and a bit unique. Not the typical stuff you get with chips a Mexican restaurant. I might ask if they bottle it next time I go back. Between the meat and salsa, the tacos are a powerhouse of flavor. If you still want to step it up a notch, though, you've got to try their spicy pickled onions. They've got just the right blend of heat and acidity. Ceviche was pretty good, but I would have preferred it without the ketchup (??) on top. The unbelievable part of this place is that we both ate for $8. Tacos are just a buck. One dollar. Un dolar. Are you kidding me?! They're cash only, but you can't blame them. They've also got a few patio tables under an awning behind the truck, so you can enjoy on the spot. And there's a liquor store across the street if you want to discreetly imbibe while you eat.

This was my second stop of my inaugural taco truck crawl, El Paisa being the first (http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-paisa-taqueria-truck-detroit). Janelle's taco truck guide had advised to get the same kind of meat at every truck so that you could better compare the trucks, and I'd meant to do that but then ended up trying the al pastor and carne asada at the first spot. Since the asada was a little tough there, I decided to try to return to the original plan and got two al pastor tacos here. I was surprised to see that these tacos ($1.00) were much smaller than the ones at El Paisa (although those were 25 cents more...). They had a tasty-looking salsa, chopped onions, and cilantro on them, and sliced radishes and a lime wedge on the side. My dining companions and I went to sit under the awning, but there weren't enough chairs. So we walked over to the adjacent playground and sat at one of the picnic tables there. Very pleasant :) Umm... that tasty-looking salsa was indeed very tasty and much more flavorful than El Paisa's. Kinda spicy too! But not that spicy. (And I'm kind of a hot and spicy wimp. For example, I love Sriracha but can only handle so much of it. Dishes end up looking like they are afflicted with Sriracha-colored chicken pox-like bumps.) These small tacos did not contain very much meat or cilantro. I could easily eat 6-8 in one sitting, compared to 3-4 El Paisa tacos. But I can justify the cost of these miniature tacos because the salsa was just that good. In fact, the salsa made Los Dos Amigos my favorite of the three trucks we tried (El Pariente being the third: http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-pariente-detroit), although all of them were very tasty. Los Dos Amigos is kind of out of the way, in the middle of a neighborhood, but it also makes for a fun little drive in which I maneuvered around some insane potholes.

Lots of tender chunks of flavorful beef swimming in a delicious broth with potato, carrots, onion and some kind of squash. It comes with rice and beans. I sometimes add that to my soup as well. Instead of crackers I use tortilla chips. The chicken soup is equally as good. I don't know why more Mexican restaurants don't offer this option. Mexican soup is much different than gringo soup. I cut everything up into tiny pieces. Mexican soup is entire carrots, a potato cut in half, half an onion. That said it totally works. I highly recommend the soup at Lupita's.

Heads up; it's cash only (atm with $3 fee in the building) and 1 bill per table. I ordered 5 quesadillas to sample the different meats. I'll go from best to worst. The cabeza was rich, but not too overpowering which I've experienced before. No fat either which was great. The asada had a nice flavor and was perfectly tender. The pollo was equally flavorful and tender. All 3 get an A grade. The carnitas was pretty good, but not as tender as the others. Solid B. Finally, the pastor was a bit underwhelming. Simply too saucy to fully enjoy it. A C grade on that. Only negative would be how greasy they were. The tortillas were absolutely drenched in grease which wasn't great. Overall, a solid experience. Wish I would've degreased the tortillas more.

I came last night and it was really busy. I ordered a carnitas burrito, one of my favorites. The food took over 45 minutes to come after we ordered it. Our table ordered 5 tacos and a burrito.... 45 minutes is outrageous. Once it finally came, my burrito was about half the size of what it typically is (posted a photo of my last burrito from here for reference) Then, they cut the burrito and there were pieces of foil all in the burrito (pictured) really not okay. The worst part, there were three massive bones in my burrito!!!!! When I complained, they said that carnitas has bones in it... I've never had bones in my burrito. They asked if I wanted something else and I said I want the same burrito but without bones and they told me that if I got the same meat it would probably also have bones in it so they didn't remake it for me. If I bit down on it I could've broken my tooth or choked. Really really disappointed with my experience last night. I'll be back because this isn't "normal" for them, but I'm really disappointed. The manager ended up comping my burrito and explained to me that sometimes baby bones get through the meat when they're cooking it... you can see from the picture we're not talking about baby bones- these were three massive quarter size bones

I have been trying Mexican restaurants all over the U.S. and no where compares to vecino and to think I found my favorite in Detroit amazes me. It truly is worth every penny. For what to order: All their appetizers are great. We usually switch it up and are satisfied with each one that we've ordered. The Totopos with salsa are a must and their guac is great as well. For mains- the asada del día is our go to. It is always cooked to perfection and comes with fresh tortillas. And it is hard for me to come by a tortilla in the U.S. that I enjoy. But here, they are excellent. They import their corn from Mexico and you can tell. This is served with bone marrow and some garlic onion spread that goes great on the taco. For dessert- their tres leches is amazing. The coconut cream pairs so well with the cake. I could eat like 10 of them. As if it's not obvious at this point vecino is my favorite restaurant in Detroit and one of my tops in the world. I will not be surprised if they are the first ones in Detroit to secure the Michelin star

I felt a little out of place being here given just how trendy and super party-like atmosphere it all was haha! And in the months since I've come here, it remains a super popular spot to go to if you're looking for that extremely lively atmosphere! None of this takes away from the quality of their delicious food! We had incredible dishes and they clearly take a lot of pride in sourcing intentionally all their ingredients for their food, and the waitstaff did their best to intro us to everything, despite how overstimulatingly loud the environment was, so I only came away from each presentation with about half the information they wanted to convey. But all in all, the food was good across the board, and we tried a ton of different dishes. There weren't any that were overwhelming showstoppers that made me want to come back here again and again to try the rest of the menu though, so I left Vecino knowing that I wasn't going to return anytime soon. It's definitely for a specific mindset and type of celebratory occasion, which is often not the one I'm in when I'm going out to eat with friends.
