Watch the movie "Chef." Robert Downey, Jr. invests in a food truck that serves up Cuban fare. Watch food truck feed Americans at it crosses the United States. Get hungry for Cuban fare. Drive to Detroit at the corner of Michigan Avenue & Martin Road (west of Livernois and north of Mexicantown). Eat Mexican food from Tacos el Toro 3 food truck. It's not Cuban fare, but it's great Mexican food. And, you will feel like Robert Downey, Jr.

Outstanding tacos. The pork tacos are just about the best I've had north of the border.

And the homemade salsas at the truck are great - the green one is my favorite. I also got the churro cheesecake with caramel and I'm SO glad I did! It's such a perfect piece of cheesecake and definitely homemade. I will be here every time I see them downtown! They were really busy, but the line moved really fast and food came out quickly. Highly recommend.

You have everything you need to make them, just add bread to your stocking list. My parents loved their asada tortas I brought them. I myself prefer my go to Mexican meat of choice, al pastor whether I get a torta, tacos or a quesadilla. Really it's a personal choice but if you like pork at all I'd opt for their juicy perfect pastor no matter what type of entree you pick. My husband liked his chicken burrito quite a bit, he is not a torta guy and despite his love of pork and pineapple he is not huge into al pastor. Weirdo. The salsa here is tasty, I get extra because I like a messy, drippy type torta that requires several napkins and a possible save with a tide stain stick pen to the shirt front. The chips are decent and the salsas great but at the price for chips and salsa you're better off adding a taco or two instead. If you see this truck you should definitely swing by.

El Paisa is located in the parking lot of Sam's Supermercado…read more(http://www.yelp.com/biz/sams-supermercado-detroit). I got two tacos - al pastor and carne asada. I made the mistake of getting everything to go, meaning the tacos were wrapped in a foil packet, the grilled onions and half a grilled jalapeno were in another foil packet, and the sliced raw radishes and lime were in yet another foil packet. Cups of red and green salsas were also carefully tucked in the bag. I really liked the tacos. I thought the carne asada was a little tough, though, and liked the pastor better (the flavor was really good too). The cilantro was fresh and the flavor really shone. In the three trucks that we stopped at that day, El Paisa's cilantro packed the biggest punch, which is a very good thing in my book... I'm a cilantro fiend. I also liked that the raw onions were very finely chopped. I usually HATE raw onions, but these finely chopped onions added just the right amount of bite. As for the salsas, I thought I'd like the green better but ended up enjoying the spiciness of the red more. Well, it wasn't that spicy but it had a bit of heat to it (kinda like a mild-medium), which was much needed, since everything else was pretty mild, including the grilled jalapeno. When I bit into it, I thought it was a green pepper in the shape and size of a jalapeno. For $1.25 a taco, I got a decent amount of food and would be able to make a meal out of 3-4 tacos. Mmm... tacos... :)

Delicious feast, TONS of sauteed onions, generous with the radishes…read more Stopped here today to check out the pollo and cabeza tacos for the first time. Great great stuff. I think they might have the biggest menu selection of any of the trucks... anyone else agree? The cabeza is diced very finely, much more so than the norm, which was interesting. I think i prefer a slightly rougher cut (on the other end of the spectrum is El Pariente's cabeza, which has much more texture per bite), but El Paisa's style took nothing away from the flavors. A small but notable detail was that the limes served here, unlike most of the competition, were extremely fresh and juicy, barely had to apply any pressure to get quite a bit of that great lime juice onto the meats, and nothing goes better with cabeza than a little salsa and a lot of lime juice. so good. The pollo was standard, but, as you all know, standard in SW taco truck land is absolute tastiness. Other things I noticed: 1) catching a bad break i suppose, the strong wind today was carrying the truck exhaust (since the truck was running) up alongside the eating counter... so I smelled faintly like a lawnmower when I return home... too bad, didn't really notice while i was eating, thankfully. 2) two tacos and a coke was $3.75 ... a score of a deal by any measure... well, except by taco truck measure... EITHER their tacos are 25 cents more than the competition, or their cokes are a little pricier... a really puny value difference ultimately, and doesn't stop me from giving El Paisa my full-hearted approval. This truck sits in the parking lot of the plaza at Vernor Hwy and Lansing St. WEEKENDS only. CASH only.

These were all standard Mexican tacos with various forms of protein,. onions, and cilantro. Their pollo was exceptional, asada good, but had some gristle, and cabeza was succulent and tender. The big turn-off for me is the 3" corn tortillas. These are really to small to handle. It's become pretty much standard for me I'll return to the trucks that serve the 4" and not return to the trucks that serve 3". The salsa that was available was tasty and definitely had a nice bite to it. They already have a large clientele so the food is fresh and the service is very friendly. So yes, El Palenque is a good truck, but it's not what I'm looking for.

I'm not sure how I missed this place on my inaugural taco truck crawl. As I was driving from El…read morePaisa to Los Dos Amigos, I traversed along this very intersection. I must have been busy gawking at all the random stuff that was being sold on the sidewalk on the other side of the street. :) On a return trip, though, I made sure to stop by. I'd been getting tacos al pastor at all of the taco trucks so that I could compare them more easily. However, El Palenque did not have al pastor, so I went for the next closest thing - two lomo tacos (and two asada tacos as well). The guys in my group looked at me like I was crazy for getting four tacos. "Dude, FOUR tacos? I got three." "DUDE, I'm starving." I also tried to buy a bottle of water. I rooted around in the cooler but could only find one bottle, and it was the grimiest bottle of water I'd ever seen in my life. It looked like a mechanic had wiped motor oil-covered hands all over it, and the label had a weathered look to it. So I opted for a can of pop and then used the last napkin from the napkin dispenser to wipe the dirt off the top. The tacos came with grilled onions, chopped raw onions, cilantro, red salsa, and radishes and a lime wedge on the side. This made two taco trucks that automatically put on the salsa for you (the other being Los Dos Amigos), as opposed to the other trucks that let you do it yourself. (I don't mind either way; just pointing it out.) The flavors were quite good, especially the lomo, which had a bit of a kick to it. Unfortunately, the lomo was also swimming in bright red-orange oil. Soon my hands were covered in red-orange oil too; it kinda reminded me of blood. It didn't help that there weren't any napkins left. My four tacos ended up being pretty small. Given my state of extreme hunger, I probably could have eaten eight of them in one sitting. Instead, I ordered a quesadilla, figuring the cheese would be a more cost-effective way to fill me up (I was running out of cash). It was pretty good (but then how hard is it to make a bad quesadilla?) and came with a bit of sliced avocado, shredded iceberg lettuce, and sliced tomato on the side. El Palenque wasn't bad - but I don't think I'd go back. I've got other taco trucks to go to!
