Los Comales - Chicken, Cheese, And Rice! - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

Great food and margaritas. Good service. The building is a little loud and hollow, but it's cool. Top 5 Mexican spots in town.

Food was great. We were struggling to find a place with Mexican in Memphis and this place did not disappoint. Food was fast and good. Thanks for a great experience! read more

Recently traveled thru Memphis-- formerly lived in Colorado (which used to be part of Mexico after all) and moved to Iowa. We've tried several recommended Mexican spots in our new home in Iowa and are always disappointed (keep hope alive). But Los Comales fit the bill for us. read more

The food was decent in regard to portions but I'd rather bland. Drinks are delicious and well priced! The lettuce can be dry and chicken needs more seasoning. The salsa is delicious as are the hot sauces! The staff is friendly and people often come to celebrate birthdays. The parking situation can be a little chaotic but the inside is beautiful. read more

Be forewarned, the stars are for the cleanliness & friendly service. The food is unflavored & Taste like it just came off of the Sysco commercial food truck. The presentation of the dinner was beautiful! The food just tasted bland. I added salsa and also they have a house salsa still nothing. We orders fajitas and a chicken burrito. I knew I was eating but nothing tasted good. The chicken, steak, and shrimp were pre-frozen and nothing was done to enhance the flavor. However there was one dish they did do well; The complimentary chips and dip was good. They make a very good Green house salsa, and the chips tasted freshly Made. I don't believe the problem with the entrees was a one off, I just believe they don't season the food & therefore I won't be back. read more

Love it. I have been here more than any other restaurant in Memphis and it never disappoints. This is the best Mexican restaurant in the city. Check the reviews of others, Los Comales is the best. Great food, great servers, clean, and spacious. Always crowded... for good reason. Parking can be dicey and it's not in the best area, but there is always a security guard on duty. read more

Service was excellent! The food was great. I had ceviche and bc I make it at home I am picky but it was delicious. The drinks hitting hard in a good way. The portion size of food is bigger than your stomach. My sister and I who travel south of the boarder said we hit the jackpot with this one. We were in Memphis for the day and googled Mexican Restaurants and we just randomly picked this one bc it was close by. Happy we did. read more

Great food, fast service. If you are around stop in and have a torta! One of the best.

First time there. It was great with new coworkers. Loved the food especially chips and salsa!

Good food in large portions. Service was good. They seemed to accommodate large groups. I do recommend trying it out.

Most of the Mexican restaurants in Memphis were disappointing. Then, I found out about Los Comales from a former classmate. I went there with my mother and my sister for dinner. As per usual with many Mexican restaurants, we were given chips and salsa. The salsa has a nice bite to it. We were also given a queso dip, and it was good. It has a big, spicy kick. I had three tacos (chorizo (Mexican sausage), camaron (shrimp), and pollo (grilled chicken)), topped with onions, cilantro, radishes, and cheese. They were delish!!! The chorizo is hot and spicy. The tacos were really cheap. Keep in mind if you wish to have flour tortillas instead of corn, you'll have to pay a little more per taco. But it's not that bad. I had the Top Shelf margarita, and it was great as well!!! It filled the void of Los Compadres (which closed a long time ago). The place was nice and clean. The service was excellent. Overall, I enjoyed the experience!!! It is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Memphis!!! I will be back for more!!! I hope that the people at Los Comales keep up the consistent quality of everything, unlike another Mexican restaurant on the same street with the fountain at the sign. read more

My wife and I love to order the Sopa de Pollo (chicken soup) to go. We always order a large guacamole to go with it. The soup is flavorful, full of vegetables and chicken. Comes with all the fixins...chopped onions and jalapeño and limes. Guacamole is chunky. I like to add some Valentina sauce to it when I get home. Great meal for a cold day, if you're sick, or anytime. Ordering is consistent. After I call in it takes 20 minutes. Good service, good soup! read more

Favorite go to! Great food for great prices. You get really large portions and their drinks are also really generous.

Great food consistently and the margaritas are everything. I've been here several times and I've never been disappointed. I'm looking forward to returning soon. read more

Good food with reasonable pricing! Service can take a min but if you're not in a hurry it's worth the wait .

Whenever I first moved here I tried several different Mexicans restaurants in the area and all of them were very mediocre. NOT Los Comales, the service is always wonderful and the food is consistently delicious. If you are looking for a Mexican restaurant in Memphis you need to come here!! read more

Hello fellow yelpers. Glad to be back. Los Comales was "the bomb"! Started off with a heaping serving of the octopus and shrimp ceviche mixto. Followed by an order of caldo camarones y pulpo. The food is authentic Mexican and the servings are plentiful. My daughter ordered the carne asada burrito. In her words, the tortillas were so delicious, she wanted to wrap herself up in it and take a nap! read more

Los Comales - Steak chimichanga with rice beans and toppings. - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

Hidden gem Found ourselves in mid-town after a day of visiting estate sales. In May, this store was one of the first restaurants to re-open after the COVID hit. Excellent Mexican food with some different flavor twists. Would definitely return. read more

This was the first Mexican restaurant I tried in Memphis moving from Houston. One thing I will say is that their chips and salsa are delicious. Mix a little of the green sauce in the red sauce to have a nice kick. It's easy to finish a whole basket of chips with the salsa! However, I got the fajita plate and it okay. The fajitas grilled vegetables remind me more of a philly cheese steak rather than fajitas. The veggie to meat ratio wasn't all that great. The flavor wasn't bad just not the most seasoned meat. The rice and beans were good though. Overall the entree was decent, but I probably wouldn't crave going there again. Overall, the food was okay and the service was good. read more

A month ago I gave this resturant 5 stars. I need to up date with my newest experience. Last Thursday my sweet and I went there for a late supper as we had an engagement near by. They are supposed to be open until 1030 pm. Our service was horrible. But at 9:45 pm they started blaring the song "closing time" from the speaker systems so loud we couldn't speak. They put all the chairs up and started mopping the floors!!! We were still eating!!! We didn't have our check and hadn't seen our "waiter" since he dropped our plates in front of us. Can't get the smell of lysol out of my head. WORST EXPERIENCE AND RUDEST EVER!! read more

Yum! The $2 tacos are delicious. Such great food. We love it. Great margaritas! The chips and salsa are great. I'm just gonna keep using the word great! Only downside is that it's loud, so keep that in mind with your dinner party. read more

I found this nice, clean, and great atmosphere restaurant on the internet. Seen their reviews and decided to give them a try. My first experience here and I'm so glad I came here the service was awesome and very friendly. Their Asada and Shrimp tender and seasoned well. Im late on posting my review but I love this place. It is my go to Mexican restaurant. I usually get the Parrillada and it never disappoints. It is so good and it's a lot of food! I get two meals from it. The customer service is always on point and the food is hot and ready when they say it's going to be. I'm pretty sure I've been here like 6 or 7 times and it's always perfect from ordering to the food! read more

The fajitas were great on the lunch special. My daughter ordered the chicken and I ordered the shrimp. I will be going back.

I've never reviewed on yelp before but this place made me. The food wasn't worth it at all. Everything my table ordered tasted bland and had horrible texture. The service did not make up for it at all. My server only checked in on us once, kept running off in the middle of us taking our orders, and wanted to roll her eyes at us whenever we tried to get her attention. Not to mention the whole time she was either eating or talking to her fellow co workers constantly making eye contact w us and never coming over. I even raised my hand at one point and she still didn't catch the hint. I wouldn't recommend to anyone. The staff also weren't wearing masks (which doesn't matter to me but it says it on there yelp page) read more

Some of the best Flautas I've had in a long time. The Sangrias are strong as well and delicious.

This place gets pretty packed for lunch. The nachos appetizer with steak (not pictured) is HUGE - like it's a meal itself and I had to leave with a box of leftovers. The toppings were delicious and a decent amount of steak were on it. On a separate occasion, I got two tacos - the asada (steak) and carnitas (marinated pork). The tortillas were crispy on the sides which was a nice touch and the meats were very tender. The meats were thin cut and I could still taste some of the juiciness coming off from it which was a nice surprise. I ordered this with onion and cilantro. I had to dip it with the free salsa that came at the beginning of the meal because it was a bit bland and wasn't a fan of the spicy green sauce that was given to us. The salsa made it delicious so it worked out perfectly! read more

Meh. Define overrated for what it is. Salsa was okay, but extremely garlicy. The drinks looked amazing in photos, but in reality their margaritas all taste waaaaay overloaded with Triple Sec. The only margarita I've had that tasted of orange. The food was alright, but the server got our order wrong and argued with us about what she thought she heard instead of trying to make our order right. Definitely will not be coming back. Seriously don't know how this place has 4 stars. read more

The place is somewhat typical of your standard tex-mex joint in terms of food selection and noise level, think El Mezcal or El Toro Loco. A few things separate this place though in my opinion. They are: 1) The staff: The first was that our waiter was SUPER friendly and very attentive. Our chips and salsa came out fast, as did our drinks, our food, and our bill (but not so fast as to make us feel rushed). So service was an A+. I would add that along with chips and salsa they also provide a jalapeno dip that is really good if you like things a bit spicy (I do). 2) The food: We ordered a cheese dip to start that was on par with other good cheese dips around town. As usual I ordered the chimichanga as my first meal here...its the standard by which typically I rate Mexican places. I always order it extra crispy because one I want to see if they can follow directions and two because...WHATS BETTER THAN A CRISPY CHIMICHANGA?!?!? LOL It came out perfect...not burnt but very crispy and FULL of delicious chicken. My wife was very happy with her burrito, but was sad when she saw how good my chimi looked. 3) Happy hour: We were there at happy hour and it was very happy and pretty darn full. In fact on our way out we were seeing people all over the place that we knew, who were there specifically for the happy hour apparently. At that point I kind of felt like they were trying to keep this hidden gem for themselves! Well to bad, now I'm in the know and will definitely be back! :-) read more

Came in on a Friday night. Very pleased with quick service and enthusiastic staff. Chips stayed refilled and food came much faster than expected. I could tell our waiter, Daniel really wanted to make me and my two friends feel welcomed and cared about despite the busyness. Oh, my tacos pastor taco and chicken taco were great, too. read more

Absolutely a "must eat at" and has to be the front runner for best Mexican in Memphis.... and it is MEXICAN, not Tex/Mex or someone's interpretation of the cuisine. It's the real deal. I had the carne asada and my date had tacos and their sangria. It was excellent. My only complaint ( if you can call it one?) was just how fast the server was with our main dishes. We had not finished the appetizers yet and BOOM!... there he was with more goodness. Extremely friendly staff too. GO NOW! read more
