Pepian - amazing stew served with handmade tortillas.
    Sandra R.

The food was pretty tasty and authentic. Every dish that came out of kitchen looked so appetizing. I ordered Pepian (which is a specialty dish that requires rosting numerous spices, condiments and veggies ) it was super delicious and it was served with handmade tortillas. YUM! Ordered a tamal to go and received thumbs up from my daughter; who is used to amazing tamales from grandma. I am originally from Guatemala and luckily my mother is an amazing cook. Having a Guatemalan option in Portland is amazing. I can not wait to go back and order the Garnachas. Highly recommend this gem. Don't except Mexican food.

The food was really good and interesting. I tried some new things and really enjoyed them...the Garnachas and the Guatemalan style Chile Relleno with rice, beans, and salad. Both had good flavors and I would order them again. The employees were super nice and helpful. The menu has a really great selection and makes it easy to order even if your Spanish is rusty or if you only speak English. The bakery and store are nice too. I enjoyed my experience and will definitely go back to try more things!

Wow! I was craving pupusas so I searched on DoorDash and this place came up... Got pupusas, tacos, and atole de elote. Everything was amazing! And super cheap. I'm very impressed... Will be ordering from again, for sure

    Garnachas

My partner and I like coming to this spot in the weekends. We drive like 40 minutes for it and it's always worth it! I get garnachas and my partner and I like to munch on the chuchitos! Sooo good!

I've been here a number of times now and everything on the menu is fantastic. The soups, the pupusas, the tamales.. everything. And they have great Latin American beers. But the best: great people. This place is perfect.

If you want traditional Guatemalan food, this is the place to be. Do not expect Mexican food because this is nowhere near what you would find at a traditional Mexican restaurant. The only bit of spiciness that you'll experience is the salsa. The tortillas are made in-house. The sweet bread is not very sweet and it is dense. The service is always slow, so do not expect to go in and out quickly. The traditional breakfast is great and is served with coffee; the Papian is served with beef or chicken; the enchiladas is a traditional picked vegetables with beef, hard boiled egg, and served on a tostada. Each visit is an experience! Will continue to come back.

Such a good place for a quick lunch, and good food. The decor is very authentic and the service very friendly. I hate that the bread is right there just staring at you, it's hard not to take one to go. They also have fresh bread made for the mornings.

Carne asada plate and BTW tasty chips to start.

My new favorite place. I had the carne asada plate. It was absolutely fabulous. Their beans, rice, tortillas, fire roasted jalapeños and green onions, ribeye steak meat was an absolute treat. I really enjoy well seasoned food and this was it. I had it for dinner yesterday and just finished the other half for breakfast. Really nice staff. Good bakery items. Hole in the walls are always the best. I failed to emphasize how awesome the beans and rice were. Uh, they were awesome!

They also have a bakery, with various Guatemalan iteams.

This is not the case of Sivar's.... I've been coming to this small hole in the wall, in a middle of a busy Central American mall, next to Super Mercado in Hillsboro and I am keeping it to my heart. There is this amazing strong woman who is an angel in the kitchen! I have been trying her pupusas since she opened her place.... amazingly delicious and honestly prepared, right there, in front of you. I have been drinking her Atol de Elote and I love it... no milk. Horchata is amazing, no milk, just rice cinnamon water sugar and morro fruit. I'm talking about Salvadoran horchata here, not the milk infused Mexican stuff. Please, don't get me wrong, the Mexican horchata is delicious but the milk, it kills me, especially the condensed milk. What else? Caldo de res, beef soup. Holly smokes! Do you want beef soup that you eat it with a spoon? No need to cut your beef with a knife, because the meat was so tender and deliciously blended. Her work team and her efforts are incredible; this is my secret spot when I want to eat like a human, no industrial food here!
