Los Chapines, is the place for some amazing Guatemalan food. I had an order of the revuelta pupusas, cheese and meat and beans. They were very authentic and good sized. They are served with a vinegar slaw and red sauce. I could have eating many more, they were just like my moms. Then I noticed that tamales were on the menu. I ordered a tamale con carne, pork tamale. Huge tamale with a nice sauce and veggies. Served with bread very traditional dish. Lights out the best tasting tamale that I have had in years. The restaurant is tucked back in the plaza next to a Dotties. Very unassuming location. They also have many other Latin favorites on the menu and a bakery! OMG, I hit the lottery. The waitress was very nice and friendly. They have about 6-8 tables on each side. If you want to leave a tip bring some cash they do take credit cards for your meal. I am going to come again to try many more authentic dishes!

Service was a bit slow, but honestly, it was totally worth the wait. We also tried the quesabirrias and wow it was so cheesy, so delicious. Just ugh, I can't stop thinking about them. Their horchata was super tasty too - smooth, sweet, and refreshing. They take credit/debit cards, which is always appreciated. The inside of the restaurant is simple, nothing fancy, but when the food is this good, that's all that matters. Can't wait to come back when I'm in Oregon.

Even though it was just 20 minutes before closing, the girl who took our order didn't rush us and was so friendly throughout. The pupusas were absolutely delicious. It's rare to find a place that cares so much about their food and customers, especially this late at night. After trying so many other Mexican/Salvadoran restaurants in Hillsboro that seem to have lost their touch, I'm so glad I found this little gem. I will 100% be coming back for more. Highly recommend!

Cerdo frito w/ Tostones ($13.95) - The dish comes with eight pieces of seasoned and deep fried pork. It's fried long enough to make it crisp but dries out the interior. The rich seasoning, salty with a lime salt-like tang, creates a red colored skin over the meat. The fried meat is served on a bed of red beans and rice. It's seasoned well and has a good bitey texture. I ordered the cerdo frito with tostones. They include three pieces that aren't nearly as smashed and thin as others I've eaten. This means they are able to show a more tender and starchy interior rather than being almost completely crispy throughout. They are quite interesting in that they puff up like pita bread, leaving an air pocket in the center. They top the tostones with a bit of crumbled salty cheese and some salsa. Unfortunately these two elements soak into the tostones a little, causing them to become somewhat soggy. There's a tiny side of slaw, less than a small ice cream scoops worth. It's filled with crunchy vegetables and is in a really sweet dressing. I wonder if they purchase it in bulk from the Reser's down the street. (4/5) Overall, my meal at Casa Latina was a nice way to refill before our drive back up to Seattle.

This is not the case of Sivar's.... I've been coming to this small hole in the wall, in a middle of a busy Central American mall, next to Super Mercado in Hillsboro and I am keeping it to my heart. There is this amazing strong woman who is an angel in the kitchen! I have been trying her pupusas since she opened her place.... amazingly delicious and honestly prepared, right there, in front of you. I have been drinking her Atol de Elote and I love it... no milk. Horchata is amazing, no milk, just rice cinnamon water sugar and morro fruit. I'm talking about Salvadoran horchata here, not the milk infused Mexican stuff. Please, don't get me wrong, the Mexican horchata is delicious but the milk, it kills me, especially the condensed milk. What else? Caldo de res, beef soup. Holly smokes! Do you want beef soup that you eat it with a spoon? No need to cut your beef with a knife, because the meat was so tender and deliciously blended. Her work team and her efforts are incredible; this is my secret spot when I want to eat like a human, no industrial food here!
