I didn't expect much but it exceeded all expectations. My aunt and I both got mole dishes and it was as authentic as you can get. Pleasantly surprised. Although service on a Sunday evening was a bit slow the food was fresh and extremely delicious!

I went with two friends to Salsa 17 on Sunday about 1:45pm. We were seated right away and the waitress was very quick and helpful. Would love to come back- we sat inside because it was kind of hot, but I'd love to sit outside next time!

So, I stopped in during the week, just after lunch time and found this little hole-in-the wall of a restaurant conveniently nestled in a shopping center next to the local Walmart. Even though I walked in and the restaurant was completely empty, the pure vibrancy of the decor and the cheerfulness of the staff encouraged me to stay. Not to mention that the aroma making its way out from the kitchen was absolutely mouth-watering. I took a seat at the bar while I perused the menu and was delighted in the simplicity of it. You know the food is about to be fire when the menu is simple and a restaurant focuses on what it does well. In addition to the excellent service, the food was absolutely phenomenal. I started off with some chips and salsa.... which was delightfully flavorful and perfectly crisp. Then, I had a bowl of the tortilla soup. Each spoonful was like deja vu. Each bite made me feel like I was in my grandmother's kitchen as a little girl all over again. The broth was perfectly seasoned and each bite came with a chunk of chicken and an assortment of veggies... truly perfecto! Once I was done with the appetizers, I made my decision to try two tacos from the menu. The first was a salmon taco--and it didn't TASTE FISHY. It was grilled to perfection and then paired with an unexpected yet delicious topping of crispy potato strings and chipotle aioli. I ate every bite of this. It was the perfect combination of crunch and flavor, I just couldn't get enough. Then I also ordered the carne asada a cabron taco. Simple, yet dynamically flavorful. I was so full at this point but took this one home to eat at a later time. Still as amazing as the day I ordered it i'm sure. While I neglected to have any desserts or margaritas here, I was assured that they are just as remarkable as anything else. I had a wonderful meal, excellent service and I greatly look forward to going back if i'm ever in the area again for work. 10/10 Highly recommend!!

Despite the restaurant not being busy, it took ~10 minutes just to get a high chair and quite a while to get our order taken. We ordered guacamole immediately, but it didn't arrive until our entrees came out--at which point our kids had lost interest. A margarita was also made incorrectly and the replacement didn't arrive until dinner. The food itself seemed noticeably greasier than usual. The biggest issue was the automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 8, even though only 4 adults were actually ordering. Given the slow service and multiple issues with the order, that left a particularly bad taste. We didn't complain to a manager that night because we had four kids with us and just wanted to get home. Hopefully this was simply an off night, because we've generally had much better experiences here and would like to keep coming back but have noticed a decline in service and food quality over last few years. Plenty of similar Mexican cuisines nearby make this passable.

I have lived in Mount Prospect for over 25 years, but still didn't know where to cop delicious tamales so I turned to my fellow Yelpies for help. The number one recommended place wasn't open on Mondays so I headed to the Tamaleria Y Antojitos Chepis. Even with the technology of Google Maps, it was a little difficult to find in the strip mall, but I appreciate it's location relative to my house/the gym (which is where I was prior to this sidequest!). As soon as I stepped into the small establishment, which had postage signage that eating in the shop was unavailable at this time, I was warmly greeted. I had a slight panic because I didn't see tamales on the digital menu, but I shared with the gentleman behind the counter what I was looking for and he immediately checked the stock and told me he had only pork left, but in 4 different sauces. I ended up getting 6 in green sauce and 6 in red sauce. The flavors were really good! I like spicy so they were very enjoyable for me. The ratio of masa to filling was good. They retained their shape better as the days went on of me eating leftovers versus when I ate two boiling lava hot out of the bag. The tamales were wrapped in banana leaves instead of the cornhusks which tickled my half Asian brain. I enjoyed each tamale I purchased!

I placed an online order and happened to catch their Wednesday special: a burrito dinner for $10. Honestly, not a bad deal at all, considering how big the burrito was especially since it also comes with rice and beans. I went with the Asada (steak), and I was impressed with how much meat was packed inside. They were big, well seasoned chunks of steak throughout, so they definitely aren't skimping on the filling. I also ordered a side of guacamole and chips, and wow this is probably the biggest side of guacamole I've ever received! Not complaining at all. The guacamole was chunky, fresh, and flavorful, and I would definitely order it again. Service was pretty quick with my online order, which is always a plus. There are also a few tables in the back if you want us to sit down and eat. Overall, a great little fine that's conveniently close to work, reasonably priced, and generous with a portions. They have a nice sized outdoor seating area. The inside also looked cute. We were excited to see that they had a singer. At first he sang mostly Spanish songs but then switched to various songs and genres. He was very good. I'm not sure if he's a regular performer there or not though as this was our first time. We were seated and looked over the menu. We ordered chips and salsa (great chips and salsa btw). Then we ordered Dahlia margaritas. Chips and salsa came out quickly. Then we waited and waited and waited for our drinks. I saw a guy walking around with 2 not very appealing looking margaritas. He unsuccessfully attempted to deliver them to multiple tables, then finally came to our table and said "2 traditional margaritas" and we said no, we ordered Dahlia margaritas and he goes "Oh ya these are Dahlia margaritas." I looked at the margaritas and they had no salt and just looked meh. We kind of hesitated and he was like with no salt? And we were said no, we said salt. So we sent them back. Guys, I NEVER send things back...ever. Then we waited some more and finally the correct drinks were brought to us. We ordered our food, shrimp tacos and steak tacos. Then we were just chatting and we realized it had been awhile since we ordered. It was busy so we kind of just shrugged it off. Then our server came over and apologized that it was taking so long and said it should be out soon. We waited and waited and waited. We noticed that no one else around us seemed to be having delayed service. Then some girl who looked about 18 came over and apologized for the wait and asked if she could get us anything.... I wanted to say our food, but I did not. No joke, we waited 45 minutes for our tacos. All that was offered was a "sorry for the delay". When our food came we had to ask for silverware and then also ordered another round of margaritas (also side note the Dahlia Margarita is just meh and not worth the higher price). Our margaritas took 15 minutes. We were almost done with our dinner by the time they arrived. The shrimp tacos were really good minus the crazy amount of oil that dripped out while eating them. I held them sideways to try to drain as much out as I could. My husband enjoyed his steak tacos. Over $100 for 4 margaritas and 2 taco meals. Which is the standard nowadays. I will say the only reason we will not be returning is because of the service and the fact that they didn't seem to care that the service was so poor. Otherwise this would be a new favorite place of ours.
