This place is a hidden gem. The food took me back to my childhood days. Great guisados to choose from.

If you are looking for a good ol Mexican place, this is the place for you! They do take reservations and are pretty sizable. We went on Saturday night which was a bit crazy. It was very crowded and we were concerned about the service. While the service was a little bit on the slower side and we were there for almost 90 minutes, all the food came out hot and delicious. I got the Enchiladas in Mole Sauce which was excellent. It also came with a soup or salad which was a nice surprise. I went with the black bean soup which was great! If there was any downside, my House Margarita tasted a little weird. I probably could have complained, but I kept with it. Pretty good size, but I think there was a little too much tequila in it! Either way, this place isn't inexpensive, but you do get quite a bit of food and everybody at my table enjoyed their meal. Sometimes thats enough! This is a great icon in this part of Chicago/Rosemont.

We didn't make a reservation, so we completely understood that accommodating such a large group might be challenging. Unfortunately, our initial interaction with the host was disappointing. Her attitude came across as very rude and made us feel unwelcome. However, our experience with our waiter was completely different. He was phenomenal very polite, attentive, and professional. He made sure we were taken care of promptly, which was especially appreciated since we needed to get back to our meeting. The food was great we got a carne asada delicious. We made sure to tip him well because he provided excellent service. Overall, our experience was mixed, with the excellent service from our waiter being overshadowed by our interaction with the host.

So, I stopped in during the week, just after lunch time and found this little hole-in-the wall of a restaurant conveniently nestled in a shopping center next to the local Walmart. Even though I walked in and the restaurant was completely empty, the pure vibrancy of the decor and the cheerfulness of the staff encouraged me to stay. Not to mention that the aroma making its way out from the kitchen was absolutely mouth-watering. I took a seat at the bar while I perused the menu and was delighted in the simplicity of it. You know the food is about to be fire when the menu is simple and a restaurant focuses on what it does well. In addition to the excellent service, the food was absolutely phenomenal. I started off with some chips and salsa.... which was delightfully flavorful and perfectly crisp. Then, I had a bowl of the tortilla soup. Each spoonful was like deja vu. Each bite made me feel like I was in my grandmother's kitchen as a little girl all over again. The broth was perfectly seasoned and each bite came with a chunk of chicken and an assortment of veggies... truly perfecto! Once I was done with the appetizers, I made my decision to try two tacos from the menu. The first was a salmon taco--and it didn't TASTE FISHY. It was grilled to perfection and then paired with an unexpected yet delicious topping of crispy potato strings and chipotle aioli. I ate every bite of this. It was the perfect combination of crunch and flavor, I just couldn't get enough. Then I also ordered the carne asada a cabron taco. Simple, yet dynamically flavorful. I was so full at this point but took this one home to eat at a later time. Still as amazing as the day I ordered it i'm sure. While I neglected to have any desserts or margaritas here, I was assured that they are just as remarkable as anything else. I had a wonderful meal, excellent service and I greatly look forward to going back if i'm ever in the area again for work. 10/10 Highly recommend!!

My margarita was very tasty and not super spicy, and he was very satisfied with his mojito. I then ordered the enchilada plate, with bean, chicken and a pumpkin enchilada. My husband got the two taco sampler platter, and both his Baja and carne asada tacos were very good. Overall, we are both excited to come here again. The carnitas and beef tacos were kinda bland and just included a little lettuce and bits of tomato. Maybe the rest of the menu is better dining in but I wasn't impressed with the order to go. Situated in the far corner of a shopping complex, La Autentica Donita is pretty unassuming. Lined with colorful flags, plants, and string lights, the restaurant has a cute but vibrant atmosphere. Upon entering the party starts, with music blaring and drinks flowing, you know you're about to have a great experience when you see the happy faces of other guests. The drinks looked amazing, but we came here for the food. Recommended by staff was the ceviche & molcajetes -- they weren't kidding when they said those were good. We were so full when eating but kept going back for more as the flavor was addicting. The ceviche, made with tilapia, came out shaped like a fish -- an extremely cute way of plating that caught our attention inmediately. The flavor was amazing, not too fishy, perfectly paired with citrus, and minced small enough that we weren't left chewing our seafood for long. This paired perfectly with the accompanied chips, or if you're me, just eat it by the spoonful because it was that good and refreshing. The molcajete was....insane. You can't go wrong with flame grilled meat piled high in a stone bowl, but each piece had it's own flavor and was so delicious. Though served with homemade tortillas to make your own wrap, I couldn't stop myself from just grabbing the meat on its own. This was the first time I tried cactus as well, and to my surprise it had just as much flavor as the meat. The salsa that is poured on top of all the meat pools at the bottom of the molcajete after your meal, making for a great treat at the end with some rice. Speaking of rice, their rice is perfectly fluffy and has great flavor as well. I'm typically not a fan of beans but I couldn't stop eating the ones that accompanied our meal...how did they season everything so perfectly? I also ordered the enchiladas oaxaqueñas (mole), but ultimately was served the verdes. This wasn't a big deal for me and I didn't even bring this up since I devoured my plate anyway, but after reading a few reviews have found out that they often are out of the mole sauce and possibly just served me the green sauce for that reason. Something to be aware of in case you were set on trying their mole! All in all, this restaurant packs flavor, quality, and great service. Staff was always attentive and I wish I lived closer to try more items.

I don't regret it at all ! I'm genuinely surprised that there weren't more people considering the weather was nice and they had alfresco dining. I was greeted warmly by the hostess and my bartender Alex. The short rib empanadas and tuna tostada were fresh and amazing. The sauces were flavorful and different than what I am normally served with my empanadas. But the stars if the show were the margaritas !!! The flavors were distinct and the margaritas were refreshing. But the blood orange one was carefully crafted. You could taste the flavor on your lips after each gulp. Food: 4 stars Service: 2 stars…read more My husband and I made a reservation for 6:30 on a Friday night for the Patio. This restaurant is downtown Mount Prospect along the Metra tracks. They have a nice sized outdoor seating area. The inside also looked cute. We were excited to see that they had a singer. At first he sang mostly Spanish songs but then switched to various songs and genres. He was very good. I'm not sure if he's a regular performer there or not though as this was our first time. We were seated and looked over the menu. We ordered chips and salsa (great chips and salsa btw). Then we ordered Dahlia margaritas. Chips and salsa came out quickly. Then we waited and waited and waited for our drinks. I saw a guy walking around with 2 not very appealing looking margaritas. He unsuccessfully attempted to deliver them to multiple tables, then finally came to our table and said "2 traditional margaritas" and we said no, we ordered Dahlia margaritas and he goes "Oh ya these are Dahlia margaritas." I looked at the margaritas and they had no salt and just looked meh. We kind of hesitated and he was like with no salt? And we were said no, we said salt. So we sent them back. Guys, I NEVER send things back...ever. Then we waited some more and finally the correct drinks were brought to us. We ordered our food, shrimp tacos and steak tacos. Then we were just chatting and we realized it had been awhile since we ordered. It was busy so we kind of just shrugged it off. Then our server came over and apologized that it was taking so long and said it should be out soon. We waited and waited and waited. We noticed that no one else around us seemed to be having delayed service. Then some girl who looked about 18 came over and apologized for the wait and asked if she could get us anything.... I wanted to say our food, but I did not. No joke, we waited 45 minutes for our tacos. All that was offered was a "sorry for the delay". When our food came we had to ask for silverware and then also ordered another round of margaritas (also side note the Dahlia Margarita is just meh and not worth the higher price). Our margaritas took 15 minutes. We were almost done with our dinner by the time they arrived. The shrimp tacos were really good minus the crazy amount of oil that dripped out while eating them. I held them sideways to try to drain as much out as I could. My husband enjoyed his steak tacos. Over $100 for 4 margaritas and 2 taco meals. Which is the standard nowadays. I will say the only reason we will not be returning is because of the service and the fact that they didn't seem to care that the service was so poor. Otherwise this would be a new favorite place of ours.
