This place has great food great service and the best Horchata on the planet no exaggeration whatsoever

Service was super nice and ambiance was excellent but the food was one star. I was very disappointed by the black charred on the pupapas food. It still tasted good but it was uncomfortably awkward I had to eat blackness of ugly bits and more ugly bits. At least the coleslaw was fresh. I found it was NOT necessary for the black charred on both sides of the flour tortillas. I hoped they will make another two for us, without the blackness, but my husband said not to ask again for free. I ate them anyways but was not satisfied. Thank you for trying anyways. We decided to try this place out back in late May for my birthday lunch. We got the pupusas revueltas. I love the fact that they cater to multiple peoples dough preferences/type of dough. My husband went ahead and trice the rice flour version I ordered the original. They were both good but I HIGHLY recommend to go with the rice flour. It kind of reminded me of like a mochi texture The size of the pupusas are HUGE, 2 was more than enough for me. I love that they bring out the condiments in containers so you can add your desired amount of topping. I definitely want to go back to get the pan relleno!!! read more

Food was good! We started with chips and guac which was seasoned nicely and was a chunky guac (tomatoes/cilantro/onions). We had never had Salvadoran tamals before so we tried the chicken one which was okay. It's slightly softer than a Mexican tamale but very similar. My sister got a Kolashanpan which is similar to the Puerto Rican kola champagne but just orange! I tried the chicken and cheese pupusa which was tasty but the chicharron, frijoles, and cheese pupusa was my favorite. I did top it with the cabbage and salsa that they provide which provides some extra crunch that I like. Knocking off one star because for an early Friday afternoon with not many patrons, I felt our overall service was slow (not the cook time but actual waitress timing to take drink order, check in, etc.). I'll start off by saying if there's one thing anybody hates, it's when you order a decent amount of stuff and you don't get the entire order. I went in and ordered takeout and typically takeout orders from my experience, especially when you order on the spot are correct (it happens, I'll take the loss. I didn't get my chicken tamal.). It's a small clean restaurant, which I believe is family run. I'm still newer to the El Salvadoran/pupusa world so I don't have much of a palate for what's good or not but everything was decent and the prices are cheap. Outside of my mishap, I see nothing bad about this spot. I'll give them another shot. read more

The food is literally being made by grandma in the back, you can wave at her and she will wave right back. They don't get anymore traditional than this and oh man are they delicious!! I avoided ordering the dinner meal, didn't want to the rice and beans to take up valuable space that a pupusa can have. You must try the jalapeño with cheese, chicken with cheese and flower bud with cheese. You must wash it down with their Kolashampan, it has a wonderful cream soda flavor and is just good with it. The place doesn't have many tables and seats so they come and take your order extremely quick. The waitress comes and checks on you often to make sure everything is good. This place has been bookmarked for a long time for me. We tried to come on Labor day recently but it was packed and we were hungry so we decided to come back another day. This time we came for an early dinner on a Saturday and we were the first ones to sit down. The sitting area is made up of tables of 4 so if you come with a bigger group you will have to combine some tables to sit together. The menu is vast but they are known for their pupusas. We tried the mixtas, solo chicaharron and the pollo y queso. All of them were delicious and made to order, so it does take a little bit of time. The outside was a little crispy and the inside was cheesy and hot and soft. Eat them with the pickled cabbage side they give to you- which itself was super tasty. We also got an order of the pastelitos de carne- those were good the outer shell was super crunchy and the inside had a lot of flavor to it. The huaraches de al pastor was good too, similar to a quesadilla except it was thinner and more fried. It comes topped with tomatoes, lettuce and crema. And we also got the atol de elote- a hot corn drink with cinnamon and milk. This was delicious and I will definitely come here on a cold day just for this. I have never had it before nor have I even seen it available on any place I've been to before. Creamy, hot and good, tastes like corn yet sweet and not savory. The staff is phenomenal here and super nice as well as the other customers that were dining there as well. I will be coming back! read more

Loved this place and it will become a regular on-the-way-back-from-airport stop from now on. Their pupusas are cheap, crispy, hot, ideal on the portions, not too much cheese, not too much masa, but just the right amount of everything. They also explained how their horchata is different (somehow - I wish I'd retained the info about how) and it certainly did have a sweetish tang to it. Their chips are homemade and they give you a huge portion as an appetizer. You'll wish you had more guac, but you'll finish the chips anyway! read more

Don't pass this place up! Family run, freshly made papusas!! Pick it up to go or dine in. They have you covered from the cabbage in bags ready with their salsas ready! We dined in, it's like your grandmother patting papusas in the back of the kitchen. They make them right there & come out steaming hot!! Service is what you would expect when something is being fresh made. They have El Salvador decorations. The ambiance is comfortable. We will definitely be back! Been a long time since our first visit, when we were looking for a place that was open after getting back from a trip at O'Hare. Top notch Salvadoran restaurant with low prices on family cooking. Great rich horchata, which my brother explained to me, is different in taste compared to Mexican horchata. My first impression - chocolatey. Also the granadilla (passion fruit) aqua fresca was excellent too. Fresh corn tamale was soft and sweet, would definitely count as a dessert. Pupusas were solid and crisp from the griddle. Two salsas on the table (hot/mild) along with curtido to dress them. Alos got the sopa de pata which came with additional handmade corn tortillas which were like plain unstuffed pupusas. Also freshly griddled. Pastelitos de carne were flaky, and light - went well with a little salsa too. Finished off with the empanadas de platano rellenas. Come three to an order and they're ok with you picking whether each is stuffed with the condensed milk or beans. Not the only Salvadoran restaurant in town, but is up there among the best of them. Might find more excuses to head out towards O'Hare without getting on a plane. read more

We don't mind as long as our food is fresh This was my first time here after a recommendation from a Salvadoran friend. It did not disappoint. The service was great. The place's owner I believe was so accommodating, explained everything and offered best options for us newbies. This is a small very casual restaurant with El Salvadoran specialties like pupusas. It's in a small strip mall and we found parking just around the corner And boy are they good! Besides that we ordered what was like beef empanadas and plantains with beans and sour cream (yes they go together!I thought we ordered 3 pupusas in total to share. But they brought us 3 each. They are pretty large and filling but soo yummy I ate most of mine. We all had the chicken & cheese, the cheese & zucchini, and one with pork and other things. Every few weeks, we get some pupusas from here. On one particular pick up order a man answered and was rather rude. He asked if I knew were I was calling because I have an out of state number. He said we only do local orders. Honestly, why would I call if I didn't know where I was calling? All other times ladies have answered and they make the process painless. The pupusas are always made fresh and blazing hot. We've had them sitting outside on our yard and are still hot even after a few minutes. In terms of filling a culinary need in Des Plaines, this place is great. If you've never had a pupusa, I would definitely come here. They are a small business with a loyal clientele. Perhaps even more important, their prices won't empty you're wallet to get full. Their fried plantains are on point and very well made. The slaw that comes with your meal isn't as potent with acid as you might find other places that have more Mexican influences and similarly with the salsa. The pupupas here are amazing! So many options, too. (Craving this cheesy mess even as I type this!) Porkrinds, always. I tried the Salvadoran soda...tastes like bubble gum, which is not my thing. If you like that flavor though, I'd recommend it. We walked in at 8 and weren't sure if they were still serving dinner, but they were so nice and welcoming. We offered to pay the bill early so they could close up, but they said to take our time. Great prices! This stretch of street might look a little sketch. Oh, you need to check out this place! I was feeling homesick and in need of Latin American food. I saw that this restaurant was only a few minutes away from where I'm staying so I decided to stop by. I had a hard time choosing what to try because I wanted every single item on the menu. Really, what's not to love on the menu? The food is simple yet delicious and exactly what I was looking for. The portions are very generous and the prices are more than reasonable. The chicken banana leaf tamales were moist and bursting with flavor. The mild salsa is perfect and the spicier salsa has a nice kick to it. You can't go wrong with any of the pupusa options. The plátano frito con lechera was the perfect way to end my day. I mentioned being homesick and not only was my meal as comforting as a warm hug on a cold day, but the restaurant staff made me feel like family. I love pupusas so much that I once went to San Salvador for 12 hours for the sole purpose of eating them in their place of origin (true story). That said, I'm picky, and Rinconcito was an amazing discovery as I found myself somewhat lost in the vicinity of O'Hare. If you are a fan of pupusas then this is your place! This is the only place I have ever had food from El Salvador, but I sure do like it. The restaurant is a tiny store front on Oakton with only a few tables. The place isn't much to look at and it is quite easy to pass by if you aren't on the lookout for it. The staff speaks Spanish, but the menus are bilingual. The highlight here is pupusas which are delicious corn tortillas stuffed with savory ingredients. They cost $2.50 each and 2 is plenty to fill me up. They come out thick and filled with a generous amount of your choice of stuffing. They appear to be cooked on a griddle and are made to order. I have had the cheese and veggie and cheese and chicaron - both are delicious. They give you some killer hot sauce and a pile of tangy cole slaw to dress then up as you see fit. They offer Mexican dishes also such as tortas, tacos and carne asada. Give this place a shot - I bet you will enjoy this unique delight! read more

This place is great. Came here on Saturday while on our way from Rosemont. We were just passing by. So good that we chose to stop by. This is like a hidden jewel of a restaurant. It is rather small. When we came here it was pretty busy, but you could still find a table. The restaurant is owned by the lady that cooks on the back. The food we tried tasted great. It seems like they cook it from scratch. We had three kinds of pupusas: pork rind, chicken, zucchini cheese. All were great. We particularly liked the one with cheese. The soup was very good (and I'm sure fattening). Plantains were superb. The price for the food was very reasonable. Give this restaurant a try! read more
