Came for Easter dinner. They had some specials and changed up their menus. But food is still good and the same as always. Real good. I got the whole fried fish with sides. My son got chicken breast. We have only been here for catered events, but the food was good both times. I believe the first time was not necessarily traditionally Guatemalan food (it was more traditional wedding food. I believe it was chicken with a very nice sauce ). This last time was Guatemalan food. Everything we've had is so good, and I love that they let you set up cute props. The latest party we went to was for an 80s birthday party. I'm not sure what the seating is for the regular restaurant. It appears there were only a few tables. I rarely crave popusas, but whenever I decide to order some, they're always delicious. I usually go to Salvadoran restaurants for popusas, but this time I decided to check out a Guatemalan joint. The service is great and the prices are fair. I ordered their two popusa dinner which came with black beans and rice. They have several meat options to choose from, I chose their chicharron and carne Asada. Popusas are very similar to Mexican gorditas. It these are thicker and softer. Both meats were good and go excellent with "cortido" which is similar to cole slaw. We also ordered a churrasquito. Two thick tortillas with skirt steak. This skirt steak is one of the most tender prices of skirt steak I've ever had. Wouldn't hesitate to order either one on my next visit. Overall a very filling meal with great prices and friendly staff. Will definitely be returning. read more

Pupusas, chuchitos, tacos chapines ( deep fried tacos filled with veggies and chicken) and garnachas are some of my favorites! The guatemalan sausage is very tasty. It didn't taste anything like the real atol de elote from Guatemala. Maybe the rest of the food is better but being a Guatemalan I can say that the atol needs to be better. My buddy and I dined at Latin Patio on a weekend evening, and it seems to be an unknown gem. Located on Central near Belmont, the casually quaint restaurant places an emphasis on Guatemalan food, and Central American food in general. While you can order basic stuff like tamales, the way to go is to order the sampler platter filled with sausage, pork, flautas, and yucca. But you gotta try at least one pupusa, or make a meal out of them and order several of them. The cheese and loroco pupusa (what the heck is loroco - a flower bud?) with some slaw is delicious. Before I begin: this is a BYOB! Another one of those hidden gems but Guatemalan style. I'd like to think that this was one of those restaurants I discovered. But of course it's not. Hidden away in the streets of Central avenue lies a restaurant with real and authentic Guatemalan cuisine (well okay food). Our main entree was ordering just appetizers, and between four of us I was amazed how full we did get. I mean chuchitos (which basically are homemade "sope" tortillas with the fixings of your choice. We had jorochos which are some kind of flower mixed in a batter and place inside the "sope" and let me tell you, I would eat these again in a minute. But wait, we also order the chicharones (fried pork skin) and it balanced out the chuchitos to the point of "AHHHHHHH. I'm telling you, the fact that an entree is less then $8 is amazing but when you order appetizers and they fill you up, this is a good thing! I also had to have the atole de elote which of course is a corn drink thanks served warm and ever so delirious! My only negative is that they need to up the size. One thing I will point out is that the menu would be better if they also included the meals in English. I mean not a big deal but of course one of our party didn't speak Spanish so we had to translate and still it was fine, but English subtitles would do. ANDY I never knew that you could park in the "free" parking lot across the street! And here I was adding almost $4 to park. Now I know, so for authentic real Guatemalan food, this is one spot I would come back again for. Well, I was really excited to try this place, but a bit underwhelmed by the experience. First - if you do not speak Spanish, you are going to have some trouble. And, even though I ordered in Spanish, and pointed to things on the menu when it seemed that the waitress was confused, we didn't get either the glasses of milk for the twins or their chicken quesadilla! They ended up eating a lot of our food, so not a big deal, but it was weird. I went with the shrimp pupusas and a tamale. The pupusas were a bit mushier than I had hoped, but the tamale was delicious. The salsa and the coleslaw they bring out before the meal was a big hit, even with the 2 year olds. My only complaint is it's mighty hard to eat when you're constantly having to quit chewing to say, "wow!". This is the best stuff I have ever eaten in my entire life. I had some sort of fried tortilla with carne asada, and words can't describe how awesome it was. The steak was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and perfectly trimmed. Not a shred of fat on there, which is good, because I hate chewing fat. We had a couple other things, and I can't tell you what they are. My wife ordered it. I'm Puerto Rican and my husband is Guatemalan. I fell in love with Chuchitos upon first bite. Their food has always been great. We moved to the suburbs and do not have a good Guatemalan restaurant near by. We were in Chicago yesterday and I placed an order for pickup for Chuchitos and Pupusas. A group of friends of various nationalities went to this neighborhood restaurant last night. One of the guys was born and raised in Guatemala and he was impressed with the authenticity of the food. And we were all very impressed. We ordered a variety of different dishes and shared. Among the outstanding menu items we loved were the pepián (a smoky, savory stew), garnachas, tacos de papa, Guatemalan style refried beans, and thick, homemade tortillas. A unique, creamy hot sauce added a spicy kick for the more adventurous members of our group. (One of the Chicago natives loved it so much that he asked for extra to go). For dessert, we shared a couple orders of the tasty torrejas, which is a warm, cinnamon bread pudding. The service was friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I was there tonight to attend a fundraiser for a marimba band in Guatemala. The food was fabulous; definitely the best pupusas I ever had. At only $1.99 per, you could certainly eat a lot of them! But that wasn't all by a long shot. The chicken dish we shared was flavorful and tender with being mushy, the burritos were good, both veggie and steak, and even the chocolate covered frozen banana for dessert was simple ad delicious.
