The complimentary chips and salsa were okay though the salsa was quite watery. The quesadilla was outstanding with a slightly grilled and smoky flavor that was wonderful. Why is it so hard to find good Mexican food in Illinois? I was very disappointed in Mariachi's Tacos. I dined in and had the lunch special at a good price. I ate beans, rice, a veggie taco, and a ground beef taco. The chips brought to the table were good and fresh. The salsa was alright. The beans and rice were nothing special and the tacos, the tacos........ They were so bland. Especially the beef, which should have been packed with plenty of flavor. I expect a whole lot more when everybody in the restaurant is primarily not speaking English. Unfortunately, luke warm service and unsavory food are not enough to bring me back. read more

Tacos are good comfort food that is usually and it doesn't cost you an arm & a leg, but taco joints are a dime a dozen ranging from excellent to meh. My wife and I were looking for something fast and we happened to be in the vicinity of Mariachi's Tacos. We decided to eat in as is our preferred method as you get To eat your food hot right away instead of carrying it home. The owner/server brought us hot crispy tortilla chips w/an excellent salsa (5 stars). The salsa was puréed tomatoes, onion, garlic, cilantro & jalapeño (excellent flavor w/a touch of heat). The tacos were pretty good. I got 3 taco dinner w/2 steak & 1 shrimp taco along w/very good rice and beans. My wife ordered the 3 al pastor dinner w/beans & rice. I checked this place out for the first time recently while I was in the area wanting some tacos. I saw good reviews and thought I get some tacos to go. The restaurant was well lit, clean and spacious. The ordering was pretty easy. There was a tacos and tortas menu on the chalkboard, and a full menu by the cashier's/ takeout counter. I ordered two Al Pastor tacos, one Cecina (seasoned steak) taco, one shrimp taco and a pollo (shredded chicken) taco with rice and beans. I got a couple of hot and mild sauces to go along with it. After eating our tacos, my wife and I were quite surprised as to how bland our food was. We said to each other that based on the reviews this food doesn't even come close to being good. It was average tasting at best. Not sure how this place is so highly reviewed and I am certainly being objective as I feel that I have had my fair share of tacos to be able to assess that. The Al Pastor was okay but still underwhelming in taste. The Cecina was a major let down as it was totally bland. It didn't taste like seasoned steak at all. The shrimp taco was just so-so and the pollo was flavorless unless you added the hot sauce. The rice was okay but the beans were just average in taste. The best item was their hot sauce which had a nice smoky flavor. I was really disappointed by the taste of the food and am still scratching my head as to how this place has 4 - 5 stars reviews. You can tell this is an authentic Mexican restaurant as soon as you walk through the doors. The food is really good! My wife is Mexican so she can be a very hard critic when it comes to Mexican food. On my last visit I ordered one of my go to lunches, three tacos, rice and beans with flour tortillas. I was told flour tortillas are no longer available for tacos, only burritos. I love corn tortillas sometimes, but I flour are usually what I order. I've been eating Mexican food for a long time and have never been told flour tortillas are not available. The restraunt was relatively empty, but it was mid -afternoon and the waitress said we just missed the rush. I tried the taco salad and asked the waitress if she would recommend the pork or chicken. She recommended the pork and I am glad she did. The pork was tender and flavorful. The taco salad included guacamole, beans, cheese and the usual ingredients. The taco shell was very good, flaky and tasty. My husband had the carne asada and shrimp taco plate. The tacos were very good. The carne asada was tender and plentiful. Each was topped with onion and cilantro. The food was very good, their prices are very reasonable and the staff are very friendly. We came by for the 1st time to try the food, because of a lot of recommendations and we were not disappointed. We're not drinkers, but they do not serve liquor here, but you can pick up some packaged foods and are welcomed. Of course, I had to try the Grilled Chicken dinner and my wife had the enchilada dinner (2 cheese and a ground beef). The Grilled chicken consists of two breast, marinated and pounded thin. The dinners come with rice and refried beans, plus grilled onion heads and also a grilled jalapeno and this puts the dish over the top. The chicken is thin, but grilled with a crispy edge, super moist and taste out of this world. My wife's enchiladas were excellent, but she made the wrong choice in sauces. The red sauce is the hotter and the green is mild. Other than that, everything was outstanding. Our server was very friendly and helpful, so don't be afraid to ask. We are returning this weekend to try their soups, Posole and Menudo, which they only have on Saturday and Sunday. Please give this place a try, I think you'll like it. read more

Service was a little slow (but seems like this the new norm with small businesses these days; so giving them some grace) but the food was good! Our server and cook were super nice and gave good recommendations for our first time experience. Reasonable prices and if you pay by cash (as of when this was written) you can save on the transaction fees. My picky daughter enjoyed eating her taco asada with the green salsa and some of my sour cream from my enchilada platter. My husband's Bistec a la Mexicana was the best dish out of all of ours ... perhaps cuz it was different than your typical enchiladas and tacos and burritos. It was tasty and came with your choice of flour or corn tortillas. I definitely recommend this dish and would definitely get it again. My enchiladas tasted good and I enjoyed them. We like to try different Mexican spots throughout the area and had never tried this place. Upon entering, it's pretty small but there are seats throughout for dining in. Bright colors on the wall, casual place. I called ahead for pickup and the food was ready about 10 minutes later when I arrived. Prices are pretty standard to what is out there at other places. We just happened to pass by and dropped in as this place has been on my local bookmarks list for awhile.  We tried an asada taco and an al pastor taco ($2.50 and $2 respectively I think) for a post-lunch snack that I kinda didn't need, ha.  They were piping hot and fresh and the hottest tacos (temperature wise) I've ever purchased.  They're probably the best quality tacos we've ever had at this price point.  At 1pm on a Thursday, they were still deservedly busy in their dining room as well as with carryout orders.  They're an authentic, homey, and no-frills operation with good eats in a modest strip mall, and that makes it a good value for the rest of us. read more

My wife and I both got the lunch 2-taco special, which comes with rice, Re fried beans, and a drink. The chorizo is not too spicy, and has a pleasant tang. The chicken is good. The veggie needed a little tomatillo sauce. The chips you're given when you sit down are good and crispy, and the salsa has a decent kick, although it is too watery. So happy to have found an authentic Mexican cuisine near where I live! I ordered the taco dinner plate which came with 3 tacos and a side of beans and rice which totaled to be less than $10. I ordered the pastor (pork), steak, and shrimp tacos and all of them were so good! I can't pick a favorite because all of them were literally that good! Friendly service and even gave us complimentary chips and salsa as an appetizer - and those were really good too! I've come in here twice for lunch now. I had the steak, shrimp, & chicken tacos. The shrimp were the best to me. They were sauteed and seasoned perfectly. The food has been fresh on each visit. Service has been pleasant as well. I probably wouldn't elect to come back because I love steak tacos & their steak was grade b/c not really my cut of tea so I can't see me frequently dining here. There are a million taco places around, but we will definitely return to Mariachi. We got a bunch of different types of tacos and the whole family loved them. Personally I ate a chicken, a steak, a pastor, and a shrimp, and they were all delicious. My daughter devoured the ground beef and my wife gave the tilapia a big thumbs up. I noticed that it was a big solid piece of fish rather than chopped up bits. The guacamole was a little bland but fresh and plentiful. Well well well. We may have found our go to taco spot. Definitely a mom n pop shop / hole in the wall sort of spot. But let's not beat around the bush too much here and get to the point... how about them TACOS. TACOS here run ya $2 and some change a pop. Served on two corn tortillas and your choice of meat and topped with onions & cilantro only. LEGIT street tacos. Size-wise excellent value... easily a 5 or 6 bite taco. Taste-wise 5/5. Salsa on the side... that salsa verde is legit. Also had some smoked chipotle salsa that was pretty good as well. Both were definitely made in house and come in those questionable looking plastic squeeze bottles. I noticed the cook in the back was rocking the USC hat and couldn't help after finishing off all that goodness to think that he was possibly sent by the King's Taco gods straight outta LA.... anyways I digress. Passable food. The Bistec a la Mexicana was in big irregular chunks. The beans tasted like they were from a can. Nobody ate more than a few bites of their food. My daughter said the red salsa tasted like Tostitos salsa with cayenne mixed in. I was very disappointed after choosing to go here, because of reviews. By far one of the greatest things about Chicago is the vast array of amazing Taquerias. They are like the ubiquitous hot dog places - they all have somewhat similar menus and the combination of unique dive or hole in the wall locales and little details make for a totally fun touring experience if you are into it. If you are anywhere near O'Hare you should go here. It is really fabulous. Just a few tables so bare bones on the eat in experience. But the art work is awesome on the wall. The pastor is off the charts great. The burrito was I believe lightly grilled which was one of those touches that makes it special. Every ingredient was top notch. The salsa is great and the salsas that accompany the dishes kick ass including a burnt red chili that looks black I have seen only one other time. Chili rellenos were homemade and just delicious. TACO TO ME NOW We happened to be in the area and we were starving. We opened up the Yelp app and found this great place. On our first visit we originally ordered a few tacos to go. As they were making them, we decided that we were going to dine in. The girl behind the counter grabbed us chips, salsa and water to drink. We were so happy with our change of plans. The salsa and chips were a nice treat as we waited for our tacos. We decided to each order chicken tacos and ground beef tacos. My wife got hers Mexican style (cilantro and onion) and I went Gringo style (lettuce, tomato and cheese). After eating both we wished we had just ordered the chicken. Do not get me wrong because the ground beef wasn't bad but the shredded chicken just blew the beef out of the water. This was a perfect snack as we were about to head back into the city and deal with traffic. We ended in the area again on a weekend about a week later and decided we needed to bring the whole family. This time we ordered a little different. We got chicken enchiladas for the girls and I needed a burrito. I asked our waitress if I could get the shredded chicken that they serve on the tacos. She didn't know and it wasn't listed on the menu. She went to the kitchen and told me they could do that. I was excited and nervous. I didn't want my burrito screwed up which can happen when your item isn't on the menu and you give the chef's the go ahead. When my shredded chicken burrito arrived and I was super happy after the first bite. The shredded chicken is super moist and is totally full of flavor. I really highly recommend this as the protein of choice. As I mentioned earlier, I've had the ground beef and it's not as good. That's my recommendation and I'm sticking to it plus my wife agrees too. I really love going to hidden gem Mexican restaurants that aren't chains. The food is always made with love and I always love trying all the different salsas that come to the table. So if you find yourself in the area then I recommend you take a Taco break because you'll be tacoing about this meal for days. It's always great to find a gem like this. read more
