Really fast service - too fast actually. Server seemed like in a hurry to answer our questions and just take our order. Didn't really like that but, food was good & really cheap - my plate was only $4 and couldn't even finish it. I ordered the Arcoiris special which is an enchilada with rice and fried beans. I was impressed with the decor and friendly service. The restaurant was pretty busy for a week night. I ordered chicken burritos and enchiladas but when I got home they were both beef. Working locally from out of town and got a table for two, was quickly seated and then the very small basket of chips and one bowl of salsa arrived. Asked for another bowl of salsa and only received an empty bowl. Kept waiting for salsa after I asked twice for it and saw several wait staff not doing anything productive but on their cell phones. Ordered the acp with shrimp expecting a healthy serving and have left overs to take back to the hotel. What I actually got looked like a child's portion of the acp.... The food is absolutely flavorless, brown, greasy crap. People occasionally get sick after eating here (just look at some of the other reviews) and the food is just really gross. I would never eat any of the meat here as it's always been really grey and dry and gross whenever I tried it. This was the first Mexican restaurant that we tried when we first visited Boone, and we stuck! Since then, we've only been to one other in the area but it couldn't compare to this place. The service is fast and efficient, which means that they won't always stand around and chat, but every waiter has always been kind and affable to us. We come here at least once a month and have never had a bad experience. Prices are extremely affordable, so our family of four can order what we want and not worry about the bill. And the food... okay the chips could sometimes (but only sometimes) be a little fresher, but we eat them regardless. Overall, the food is amazing! Their Charro beans are fantastic, so be sure to try those. The salsa that comes with the Tacos de Carne Asada is heavenly. (Husband could drink it with a straw.) By the way, their Tacos de Carne Asada is a massive helping for a very fair price. Love this dish! I'm allergic to tomatoes & peppers (go figure) so I order their fajitas with only onions and salt/pepper, and they are super careful to prepare my dish the way I need it. In the great Boone debate of Los vs. Dos, Los is the clear winner in my book. Although the food is nothing special (your standard, inexpensive Mexican food), the service here is far superior to Dos Amigos on the other side of town. I (and every one else in Boone) always order the ACP. The recent addition of ACP with pineapple to the menu truly delighted my taste buds. Being going for IDK 10 years, 2x a year on trips to Boone. Never had a bad experience. Maybe had to chase down a check at closing when a big football match was on TV, but other than that the food is good, you get a great value and can order all kinds of stuff a la carte, like that single cheese enchilada for your kid who never eats. I would like to put a disclaimer to say that I nor have my friends/family ever left a review on anything before, but this needed to be said. To begin, the service was alright. Walking in door the place seemed very promising..... boy could we had been more wrong. It was looking up, there was a large crowd, the place looked nice, and the chips and salsa were the norm. But then... the "queso" came along. The watered down substance placed before me couldn't have been anything more than microwaved milk. It tasted even worse than it looked. And then it hit us.... the burritos we had just ordered were smothered in this "queso". We hoped for the best and continued snacking on the chips and salsa. When the food arrived we were amazed by the large portions for such a cheap price. There IS such thing as quality over quantity. The fajitas came... no sizzle. The burritos came.... drenched in "queso". The meat was slimy and gross. It was worse than school cafeteria food that would be found on an overdramatic Nickelodeon show. Probably belonged in the chum bucket. The beans were incomparable to anything before consumed. The canned beans I buy at home taste 100 times fresher and tastier than what we were served. The rice was mushy and bland, probably had freezer burn. The guacamole looked like a bright green paste, similar to baby food. Didn't even eat it. We couldn't even get a bite into the food without having to stop. The look of my burrito (burrito Azteco) made my mother gag. The only thing that was decent was the Corona. Worst Mexican restaurant we have ever experienced, and we are frequent Mexican eaters. read more

I'm a big fan of Los Arcoiris' ACP. It's cheap and delicious. Dos Amigos (the only other competitive Mexican restaurant in Boone) is several dollars more expensive and not as good. Be willing to wait in the line if you come for dinner Thursday through Sunday. read more

All us Boonies know it's all about Los vs. Dos. Sadly in this, my vote is for Dos. My experience with Los Arcoiris' food (read below for my thoughts on their service) has been sub par. Lots of times food has come out so fast that I've worried about how much of everything is pre-prepared and the temperature makes me wonder how long it has been sitting. The only redeeming quality, in my opinion, is their customer service which has always been outstanding for me. They even let me in five minutes after closing once (years and years ago) when they saw I was pregnant, they asked if I was having a craving and I told them YES but just for chips and dip. They sat me at a table with three baskets of chips and three bowls of dip and a pitcher of water. I sat there and ate away as they cleaned and, of course, left them a HUGE tip! read more
