While waiting between appointments, we used Yelp to find spot for a late lunch. With a rating of 4+ stars, we gave it a try. The restaurant is very close to the highway, just enough to park and leave. Building isn't the best looking, needs update and more curb appeal. We were seated immediately in the back half of the establishment. Interior is a Mexican theme if course. Music is playing, almost to loud for conversations. Music sounds like the speakers are very inexpensive. The windows were open for a nice breeze but the window screens are ripped, torn, not attached which allows nature to also enjoy the food. The young girl serving didn't speak English well, when asked a question, she had to get another lady to answer. She did check on us, just once during our meal but did refill our drinks and offered a takeout container. The food was good. We ordered the tortas milanese with chicken and ACP chicken. The sandwich was huge and the ACP was a big plate full. IF we order again, it will be takeout or delivery. read more

My favorite spot in all Boone! Come up here whenever I'm visit my sister and it's soooo good. The Al pastor is chefs kiss, chips are unlimited, and love pairing all my food with a crispy coke. Authentic Mexican food is difficult to find in the South, but this hole-in-the-wall restaurant made me feel like I was back in a California taqueria. The interior offers serval booths to sit in, the service was great, and the food was on par with the best of California taquerias. Chips and salsa were good. The corn tortillas are homemade. I had the carnitas and they were great. My husband had the al pastor burrito and it was delicious. The menu is extensive with many options. The prices are very reasonable too. I'd definitely eat here again if I'm ever back in Boone. read more

On a Friday night this was a welcome sight for our first time in Boone. We were able to get seated quickly and sat in the back room. You could smell the food cooking. Fairly rustic back there but clean. Put young server was nice and pleasant. Chips and salsa were good although I personally like my chips a little thinner. We got the chicken and chorizo with rice - delicious and had a clean plate - and the steak/chicken fajitas- huge portion and cooked perfectly. The tortillas were fresh and tasty. The cold beer - Pacifico- was Ice cold and went perfect with the meal. Good service and you pay up front. Really good family Mexican restaurant in Boone. I recommend giving it a try. read more

Oh, it pains me to give a 2 star review because I love this place so much! First, let's talk about the good. People: A+ The people here are awesome. Very friendly, very helpful, wonderful people at the cashier and waiting tables. They are all A+. Ambience: A The ambience is "hole in the wall" which you'll find everywhere in big cities, but which are depressingly lacking in middle America. It's so nice to see a hole in the wall and not another cookie cutter mall place. Corn Tortillas: A+ The homemade corn tortillas are A+. Not just A+, but some of the best tortillas I've ever had. The only tortillas that rival these are the tortillas we used to have for breakfast in Guatemala where you sit a few feet from the justa where they're being made. Seriously. The best. Now for the bad. Guacamole: C The guacamole was awful. Barely any seasoning. Blended smooth, so no texture. No tomatoes or onions. It was bland, too smooth, and watery. It was clearly made from those big watery avocados. I've had guacamole like this in Mexico; it may be authentic, but that doesn't make it good. Give me turista guacamole any day of the week -- Haas avocados, chunky texture, diced tomatoes and onions. Lime juice. This guacamole was none of that. Tortilla Chips: C The tortilla chips were store bought. No surprises there; it's exceedingly rare to get homemade tortilla chips, but since they make their own tortillas I was hoping for homemade chips. Platillo Carnitas: C+ Carnitas should be the crowned king of any taqueria. The carnitas here were very "meh". Carnitas is all about the fats (why else do we eat pork) and the crunchy crusty bits that get charred during the cooking. The carnitas here had no fat. I don't know if they cut it off before cooking, or if they thought we wanted extra-lean carnitas, but they were very lean and dry. And bland. Not much seasoning. They could've used some onion, salt, and cumin. Lastly, no charred bits. The charred bits of carnitas are like gifts from God. You put them in your mouth and go MMMMMMmmmmmmmm, especially when there's fat on them. Sadly, no charred bits. But what really is a head scratcher is... WHERE'S THE CHEESE? There's no cheese here! WTF! Most of us go to Mexican restaurants because it's the perfect amalgam of carbs, cheese, fatty meats, and salsas. There was no cheese! Arrghhghghghgg. Quesadilla Pollo: C The cheese on this quesadilla tasted like processed American cheese slices. Blech! They really need to use a better, more tasty cheese. Gordita: C Pretty much everything I wrote above also applies to the gordita. read more

My number one spot I go to in Boone for Mexican food. I haven't had a disappointing meal during the 5 years that I lived in Boone. I recently moved to Matthews and have yet to find my go to spot like Taqueria El Paso. The only down side is that they don't have they're liquor license so no margs here. read more

*** I know typically I make vegan reviews but I'm posting on behalf of a friend who lets me know about places she eats as she travels so I didn't eat anything myself *** My friend was absolutely ecstatic to call me from 10000 miles away to tell me how good this food was. She said it was as authentic as you can get. My friend had the burrito Roqueta and her family had the mole. They managed to feed 5 people with salsa, chips, drinks and all the works for less than $60. The staff was incredibly friendly and willing to work with any food requests. Various salsas and many many traditional options. I would recommend anyone come here, it was delicious. Veggie options: there is a small veggie selection that includes several sides and quesadillas. Although not clearly listed the beans and rice appear to be vegan. The ambiance was homey and welcoming. The dining was casual and had a very nice family vibe. read more

Went on the evening of December 14th, service was excellent and the food was really fresh and delicious. We had the Pollo Fiesta and the Pollo Fogon, both had very tasty grilled chicken, one had spinach outshoot salad and queso the other had shrimp, grilled peppers and onions both were over rice. Visiting from out of state and we decided to make our way to this place, passing other Mexican restaurants along the way because reviews of service weren't great. So glad we did, Great Mexican spot! Service was fantastic, food delicious, horchata yummy! I wish I could remember the name of my dish... grilled chicken with onions, mushrooms, and rice. Rice was flavorful and fresh. My boyfriend had enchiladas with verde sauce. They were very good as well. If we lived here we would eat here weekly or more! To top it off prices are great as well. 11/10 would recommend. read more

I write and say this lovingly and respectfully, the waitress didn't quite understand our "Spanglish" and I worried our order may be incorrect. However, our order came out perfect! My oldest loves a side of skirt steak. He said it was seasoned perfectly. My husbands chorizo tacos were good. Little guy's taco was filled with beef. And my taco salad was excellent. The only odd thing is my son likes his taco hard shell and only ground beef. They said they could only do soft because the meat would fall out???? ‍ Well the meat fell out of the soft shell too. The tortilla chips were all over cooked. Not one basket but 4. The beef fajitas were gristly and tasteless. The service was pleasant and the warm corn tortillas were delicious. Wow! So good! My wife and I went here for our anniversary and we were blown away! It's very casual and doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's wonderful and authentic inside. The free chips and salsa were good. We got a ground beef quesadilla for an appetizer and it was excellent. Then we both had burritos, which were massive. They didn't come with any sides, but came smothered in house cheese sauce. My wife got steak and I got shrimp. Highly recommended! We were stuffed when we left. read more

My family and I have eaten here twice on trips to Boone and have never been disappointed. My daughter is a vegetarian (!) but loves their veggie burrito. I've tried their lengua tacos, their el pastor tacos and their special house made taco with a thick masa harina casing that was very good as well. It is like what the others say, Mexican Soccar or soap operas on the little TV, beer and sodas only, no hard alcohol or margaritas here. Food is great. Service is good and kind and patient. THIS PLACE IS WORTH IT AND SOOOO GOOD. The prices are ridiculously low, like crazy cheap. The portions are more than enough and the staff is so nice. We were waited on by "Guera" and she was more than professional especially after my friend got sick in their bathroom (from motion sickness). It's cheap and authentic and beyond reasonably priced.
