The Rattlers were founded in 1992 as an expansion team in the Arena Football League (AFL) and were the third oldest active franchise in the AFL until their departure in 2016. The Arizona Rattlers have won seven championships in franchise history across two different leagues. Arena football (like AF1 or the IFL) has drastically different rules than the NFL. The most significant differences are an 8-man roster instead of 11, a 50-yard field with padded walls, and strict bans on traditional punting. I went to my first Arizona Rattlers game on Saturday, July 11th, against the Tucson Sugar Skulls. It was my first time watching arena football and I gotta say, I'm a fan.
