Awesome little gem of mexican food, great relaxed atmosphere I popped into Los Altos Restaurant on Milpas for lunch and walked out wowed. The joint has a laid-back, neighborly vibe that suits chowing down with friends or grabbing a bite on the go after a day at the park. The menu gravitates towards authentic Mexican fare with lots of options -- tacos, burritos, tortas, barbacoa, menudo and more -- and you can really tell a lot of them are handcrafted. I especially liked the hand made tortillas and the fresh chips and salsa - the salsa had zingy, fresh flavors without being too aggressive. Service was warm and inviting and the staff never made you feel hurried even when it was busting at the seams. Portions are large and prices quite fair for Santa Barbara. The daily specials (Taco Tuesday, Burrito Wednesday) are definitely worth exploring if you want some good value. A few minor hiccups -- a cocktail lingered a little, a dish fell short on flavor -- but generally the food was strong and I would absolutely return. If you're craving real, non-pretentious Mexican with a ton of options and warm service, this is a reliable selection. Just prepare for a laid back experience as opposed to anything fancy. read more

My family and I came to visit SB for the weekend from Norcal, Bay area and Murrieta. My husband and I got married at the SB Courthouse that weekend. The next day before leaving SB we weren't sure where to go and who would be able to accommodate 15 people so last minute. Luckily I found this restaurant on google and called them up. The process was easy and we were reserved quickly, it was so nice to be able to hang out with our family and friends one last time before we headed our separate ways. The waitress was kind, the food was delicious and they had SO MANY OPTIONS of food, from calamari to the essentials like burritos, to Chicken Mole chilaquiles. I got the posole verde pa la cruda haha. Someone else got a molcajete. It was all so good and we never felt pressured to leave or that we were an inconvenience. The owner ended up gifting us a bottle of Tequila for being newlyweds, It was a positive experience and a great way to end our wedding weekend. Definitely give this place a try! read more

I came in here for lunch while waiting for my bus back to Santa Maria. The dining room is immaculate. All the tables are clean and set. There was one server behind the bar. She smiled at me as soon as I walked in and greeted me in Spanish. After sitting down & perusing the menu I settled on the fish and chips, because I really wanted fries. The young woman that was working was prompt and brought chips to my table as they have a self-serve salsa bar. . My dish was smaller in portions than other fish and chips I've had, however I wasn't wasn't as hungry as I thought. They also have a special on Mondays so it was only $10! The owners of Los Altos have opened a smaller restaurant in Goleta. The new location is on the corner of Hollister and Orange in Old Town. I was super excited to have a good place close by, they have a restaurant on Milpas in SB and I have been anticipating the carnitas tacos. The soft opening started yesterday so my boss and I decided to try it out today, and we both wanted carnitas for our meat choice, however, on day two of their first week, they were out of carnitas. That was a huge bummer. I regrouped and decided on the Barbacoa soft tacos with a small side of rice. This was pretty good with a fair amount of meat seasoned just right and served with cilantro and onion. I would say great, however I am still pouting about the carnitas. My boss had the Al Pastor Torta and he was happy with this, but he too was slightly disappointed about the carnitas. I have been to Los Altos on Milpas many times and always looked forward to the wonderful Staff, food and ambiance. I have to say, the Goleta location has wonderful staff, the ambiance was good, but not the same as Milpas, and we will definitely be frequenting the Goleta location in the future. Just don't get your hopes up for carnitas, cause right from the start it is hit or miss. This may change and I should remind you, this is only day two of the soft opening. Oh my goodnesssss, i went to Los Altos tonight with a friend for the first time. She ordered the tacos, which she noted were very flavorful, and I ordered a chicken burrito with no pico de gallo. I can honestly say this was one one the best burritos I have ever had and I savored every bite. The orange garnish was so fresh and savory too! We also had the guacamole appetizer with their yummy tortilla chips that have seasoning on them. The guacamole was delicious! I was surprised that the place was essentially empty, but our server was amazing very attentive. They have a few tvs inside as well and a warm inviting atmosphere. You better believe I'll be back and telling everyone about this place! They have a great AXXESS deal too! read more

Terrible service, and very rude man from the kitchen! I would not recommend this place, and will not be returning. My family and I were passing through. We called ahead of time to order for pick up, the person on the phone said 15 minutes we arrived paid and waited for about another 15 minutes. My husband asked if the food would be ready and they said they would check. We waited about another 15 minutes when we started getting very uneasy, my husband once again, asked the lady and she went to check then a very rude man came from the kitchen and said what do you want? My husband asked do you know when my food will be ready? He started to raise his voice and was very rude, saying do you want your food or not!! shocked, My husband said no, the man proceeded to the cash register to void our payment. No I'm sorry for all the time that you waited already or anything. No, I'm sorry for raising my voice to you. Nothing from the man other customers stood by were commenting on his rudeness as well. Don't know if he's the owner, but if he is, he really should be more respectful to costumers! And if he's not, he should be fired! as for me and my family we will not be returning. First time here and the place looked cool- nice decor, clean, and festive with colors and sports on TVs. The servers were friendly and the seating was self serve. The salsa bar was amazing! So many choices ranging from habanero hot to picode gallo cool. Ordered the tilapia and garlic sauce. I asked for the garlic sauce in the side and it came on the fish. The beans were uniquely in a small tastada bowl, but honestly, I would've wanted quantity vs asthetic. The rice looked like 3 tablespoons spread thin across the plate. Fortunately the fish was well made and plentiful. I also wish I was asked/offered more tortillas bc I ran outway through my meal. The tasty salsa bar saved this review from being a 3 star review. Ordered churros and got 3 long churros with vanilla ice cream with sprinkles. They were pretty good, but they tasted similar to the churros sold during Fiesta here in Santa Barbara.. there good, but not the best ;) Overall, the meal was good, service was great, and the salsa bar was the best! I came here for lunch with my friend because I noticed they had some great deals. Little did I know the food was super authentic tasting as well!! Everything was amazing and hooked up. I love that they have a BOGO deal on cocktails during the whole month of February. I got the pina colada and my friend got the Mexican Mula. Both were so tasty! For food, I got the a La carte red chicken enchilada and chicken mole plate with rice and a salad. The mole sauce was delicious! Los Altos is a great spot. Since COVID they've expanded their back patio and have lots of space back there! Their portions are large, drinks delicious (I mean, check out my Michelada!), and they have a large menu and salsa bar to choose from. Service is great. Delicious food, clean, colorful and beautiful decor. We went for breakfast and were not disappointed. My omelette was filled with delicious cooked just right veggies. We had 3 sopes(carnitas and carne asada) and burrito (carne asada) on the way to Solvang. The food was very good. I cannot comment on the authenticity, however, the salsa was very good and flavorful. My hubby got the burrito and said it was good, but very cheesy. The sopes were amazing, and it was a Friday lunch special so it was only $10. A very good deal for the quality. The meat was tender for both carne asada and carnitas. You could also tasted the chopped pineapples with the carnitas. They gave you chips and shrimpy soup broth as complimentary. Winner! *guacamole (green)- is mild and full of cilantro *pico mixed with tomatillo is a great alternative to the salsa de chips *quemada- smoky, roasted goodness *verde- chunky and good. You won't be disappointed. Carne Asada- excellent plate. Enjoyed the cut, portion and its simplicity. The only call out would be salt. There's allot of salt on the meat. Camerones de la Diabla- delicious, smoky but not spicy sauce. This sauce is great on the Carne Asada. NOTE: you can order a side of the sauce. Do it. You'll want it on everything. This place is about as Mexican as me. Jokes aside, it's helpful to note that among the Taquerias of Milpas this is the least Taqueria-y. It's more of a sit-down "white" kind of place. And no I don't think that's a bad thing it's just something to take note of. The food is closer to Tex-Mex. Service here is outstanding however the food is not very good. The chips and salsa are pretty much the stuff you buy at the grocery store. It's edible and most people would probably be okay with it. My point is that when on Milpas you just have way better options. If you plan on chilling somewhere this is a good spot. They have TVs with the sports games on. I heard about Los Altos Restaurant in Santa Barbara and that it had the best authentic Mexican Cuisine around and my friend and I were off and running with our City Shopper Coupon Magazine! Every type of salsa you could think of and, yes, I tried them all and they were all freshly made and delicious! I knew, based on this, that the food would be just as amazing! I ordered the Chile relleno ala carte and the presentation was gorgeous (you'll see the photo) and I never put down my fork! The cheese was the right amount of melted stretchy goodness! The sauce was fresh and had a nice zip to it...I can seriously say this was the best I have ever had. My friend ordered the chicken enchiladas and she thought she would bring one home but she didn't put her fork down either and ate them both!!! The presentation and taste of the food shows the love, passion and pride just welcoming you to eat, enjoy and come back again. The service was perfect too! The bf and I found this place because of Axxess SB, where we got a BOGO deal. With a multitude of taquerias on this street, the deal gave us an added incentive to drop in. That and because it specialized in seafood. There are plenty of tables in this quaint restaurant. A seat yourself policy allows you to pick whether or not you want to watch something on the 3 different tvs placed around the establishment. Once we were seated, they took our drink order and gave us some salsa y chips. It was a busy night, and I could tell that many of the patrons had been waiting a while before they got their food because their chip baskets were empty and their drinks were gone. The bf ordered the mixed fajitas, which come with 3 thick tortillas, shrimp and steak. Since the reviews mentioned the camarones del diablo, that's what I got. My meal also came with tortillas, frijoles and rice. We waited a while before we got our food. A few times we were fooled into thinking it was our meal, only for the staff to bypass us and go to a table where patrons who had come in before us. Always curious of what the food looks like, I glanced at other dishes as they came out. Although we waited, at least I knew that meant our food was made to order and not under heat lamps waiting to be served. One table had 3 orders of whole fish. The choice is between tilapia and catfish. It looked delicious! Another table, the gentleman was enjoying some seafood stew that also looked mighty tasty, I couldn't help but notice the crab claw hanging off the side. The bf and I shared our food, so we were able to confirm that they cooked the shrimp really well. It was not mealy and was good. His steak was thin and a bit overcooked. A little salty for our taste, as well. I also felt that the tortillas were too thick and preferred to eat the entree without them. The spicy sauce for my dish was rich in flavor and was indeed spicy. We used it with the fajitas as well. There was a smokiness to it that we enjoyed. Overall it was a good experience, except for when I went to pay for the meal. I presented the Axxess card, and under her breathe, I heard the cashier say with annoyance, "but of course!" I found that to be a big turn off, as the deal got us in the door to begin with. If she was able to keep that comment to herself, I would actually have decided to come back and try some of the other dishes. Now, I'm not so sure. read more
