A joyous encounter while driving on back roads returning to Chicago from Madison on a Sunday afternoon . Easy parking, facility is welcoming to the eyes! Spotlessly clean seating area and bathrooms . Friendly greeting and welcoming by staff. Excellent selection of items on menu... I ordered the taco plate and it was outstanding. My spouse ordered a cup of coffee and since it was 3pm I was thinking that the coffee would be a "left over" from earlier- But it was fresh and satisfying!! Service prompt and courteous.... The restaurant people are magnificent, attentive and friendly. No qualms there. However, the food is very average (nothing super special) and quite pricey. Nearly 30 bucks for lunch time chicken enchiladas and a house margarita on the rocks. Ok, I won't forget the salsa and tortilla chips. read more

There are quite a few Mexican restaurants in the area and this is one of our favorite. The service is always good. Their menu is overwhelming with too many options to choose from. The prices are very reasonable. Everything we've tried...carne asada, fajitas, tacos, burritos have been very good. They have daily specials for drinks and foods. They do serve alcohol. Their parking lot is small however there is plenty of nearby street parking. read more

Best Mexican restaurant in the area hands down! The chips, salsa, and guacamole are fresh and homemade. You can't go wrong with any of their margaritas. The Monday special was the steak ranchero, which was a steal for $9. My friend had the chicken chimichanga jalisco. They have daily specials, menudo on the weekends, and tons of seafood options. We had liked this place a few years back but the last three visits we made had the following issues: middle-aged woman/owner behind the counter has become unfriendly and scowls at everyone, meat quality is extremely low-grade, prices are super high (3 entrees = $56.50), and we included a 20% tip for the pleasant young waitress (maybe she should be the only face allowed in public). Glad I'm waited till now to do a review. Five years ago even though the food was great the place was kind of dumpy inside. They did a decent remodel in the past couple years and it's very friendly inside and clean. The menu is changed but it is totally amazing. I had a burrito platter. Burrito was made the way I asked for and they make fairly large burritos here. Had the right amount of chicken inside which was shredded and very tasty and cook the perfection. I only made it better by adding their hot red sauce which put enough heat on it for me. The rice on the platter was extremely tasty and cooked perfectly as often you don't see that in many restaurants. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. Even though I liked it five years ago, I love this place and will come back again. I highly recommend it if you like authentic Mexican food this is the place for you! read more

This is epitome of a hole in the wall. You could drive past this place for years and never notice it. But it's definitely worth noticing. Stopped in here one night when we didn't feel like venturing outside of downtown Delavan and I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The food was incredible and authentic. The restaurant is kind of dirty and has very weird/crowded decor. Staff aren't super nice or observant. Our table didn't get napkins or water despite asking, the table was not wiped down before we were seated. The food tastes like it's from a cafeteria and is served in plastic tray dishes like a middle school lunch. Everything is either overcooked or undercooked. The cheese on the food was like plastic somehow. The prices are fair and this wasn't the best place or worst place. Wont be coming here again though. Pretty disappointed. read more

Its a small comfy place to eat. Owner and staff have always treated us excellent. The Menudo is fantastic. Steak tacos and Jalisco chimi excellent. For a small town in Wisconsin, this was hands down some of the most delectable, mouth watering cuisine I've had on this part of the United States. Being a native of Arizona, I'm pretty picky about my southwestern food. I decided on a carne asada torta and I must say, every bite just melted in my mouth. It was definitely a smorgasbord of deliciousness in my mouth. Service is great amongst the vast amount of choices of salsa. Only complaint I have, is the tortilla chips they serve are slightly burnt and stale. However, this is a must for any local or visitor to come check this place out. read more

This is a little place with a nice location in Delavan, and the food was ok. The margarita I had I asked to be made with Patron- and it was yummy!! I had to request a vegetarian fajita, as there were no separate no meat choices. It was fine- plenty of good, but nothing earth shattering. Nice, fresh tortillas and crunchy chips. Salsa with a bit of a kick. Place is lit up brighter than a dentist's office. Chile rellenos were flat as pancakes with a soggy breading. Cheese filling was bland. Carne Asada was about half gristle, and half delicious. Not a big fan of refried beans where they've been reduced to a pale brown mush either. Pickled jalapenos and carrots and cauliflower on table was very good, but in today's germaphobic world, it can't be enticing to many people to share a pair of tongs and the plastic container with table after table. Obviously, not a favorite for us. But when we asked later where the best Mexican food in Delavan was, everyone in the bar agreed -- Los Agaves. Your mileage may vary. read more

Casual authentic Mexican cuisine. Tripe, tongue are on the menu so you know it's no chain restaurant. The place is small so most likely not good for large groups. I went in for a late lunch. I had the steak tacos, the queso was thick and cheesy. Not thinned out with milk like you see in some places. We also had the steak burrito. Thick and filled with plenty of tender bites of chopped steak. I wasn't to impressed with the chips. They seemed a little stale. Perhaps they were sitting for awhile. Salsa had a good note. Not overbearing. Table side bottles of salsa verde and chipotle sauce made for nice condiments to the burrito and tacos. read more

This place is by far the best Mexican joint in the area. I have never had a bad experience or bad food. I did have the chicken salad, didn't care for it as it wasn't what I expected. Their al pastor tacos are by far the best in the area. Their prices are reasonable. I've always had the same waitress, so I can only attest to her awesome service. This is the best Mexican restaurant in the Delevan/Darien area. I am from Chicago and am SPOILED when it comes to good Mexican food. The food here is truly authentic and they have an abundance of combo dinners to choose from such as 2 tacos and a tostada, 1 enchilcada, 1 taco and 1 tostada, etc. That way you can sample; Carne Asada, Pastor and Pollo for a variety of great Mexican flavors. They also have the infamous carrots and cauliflower on the tables with a great kick. This place is better than the touristy place around the corner. Guacamole had too much cilantro in it. I had the steak tacos and were pretty good. Service was also good. Reasonable prices. My hubby was somewhat disappointed though because his "caldo" barely had any shrimp in it. All in all this place is not the worst but is not the best. read more

On a fluke (mainly due to Summer Traffic in Lake Geneva and the fact that we found ourselves in Delevan, starving) we decided to stop for lunch at Los Agaves ... The first indicator I had that things were possibly not going to be so good was the basket of blatantly overcooked Tortilla Chips brought to the table - being as there were several other tables in the restaurant with customers and only one waitress on duty, I decided to overlook this and we went ahead and ordered. While waiting for the order, I did try the Escabeche which was on each table, and was actually pleasantly surprised so as we waited for our food, I was again optimistic that we were going to have an enjoyable meal... Nope. I almost hate to say it, but this was one of the 3 lowest-quality restaurant meals I believe I have ever had. I ordered a combo plate, which consisted of a Chile Rellenos that had obviously been pre-cooked days ago (soft, sticky, eggy batter that tasted of past-prime fryer oil) and was served without any sauce or "broth", as has been every Relleno I have ever eaten in my life. Moving along to the Enchilada, same thing - the tortilla was mush except for the portion obviously hardened by microwaving. The filling was Asada - that's it, perhaps a tablespoon of sauce (flavorless at that) and hardened, microwaved cheese on top. The final straw was the Taco Mexicana, You would think that no one could screw up steak, onions, and Cilantro, right? The tortillas were so oversteamed they didn't allow the taco to be picked up, the onions were so far from fresh that they had lost all their flavor, and even the Cilantro tasted as if it had been sitting in the cooler since Friday at least. The only redeeming point to the meal was the Escabeche (almost on a par with my favorite at Carnitas Don Pedro in Pilsen, IL) - I would avoid this place at all costs. If You are in the area there are a MULTITUDE of better Mexican Joints, the Supermercado in Delevan or Lake Geneva (limited seating but wonderful food made fresh to order) , Tienda El Rancho in Geneva, even Burrito Loco (speaking of "Touristy") in Burlington - all put this place to shame. While I agree with the other reviews that call the place around the corner "Touristy" - I would definitely go there if I wasn't in a position to drive to an adjacent town as versus wasting time and money on Los Agaves. read more

Love eating here! The staff is great and pay attention to their tables. The vegetables on the table are great (could eat them as a meal they are so delicious) I normally get the steak tacos and grilled onions. I think both are consistantly cooked on my many visits. I would agree that some of the steak has chunks of fat on them. My only critique would be the inconsistency with the mix drinks. Sometimes they are extremely strong other times I wondered if there was alcohol in it. read more
