This is a new offering replacing a former German establishment and the food and friendly atmosphere are a welcome addition. The head of the Kitchen "Dan" only uses quality meats from an established butcher, and the brisket, ribs, wings, and pulled pork are outstanding. Prices and portions are an excellent, you will not go away hungry. Friendly service, they are eager to show Danny Boyz is here to stay. No trip to Wisconsin is complete without a ceremonial smuggling of a trunk-full of New Glarus beer…read more This magical brew is only available in the cheese state and in high demand around the country. When visiting family in Milwaukee, you MUST make a stop to stock up on this craft brew. The New Glarus Brewing Company was founded by Deborah Carey as a gift for her husband, Daniel. Before starting the New Glarus Brewing Company, Dan Carey was an experienced diploma master brewer. Today the company brews a variety of beers, with its Spotted Cow label leading in sales. New Glarus brewing employs about 90 people today. The brewery made the choice to pull out of Illinois sales effective 2003 leading to the sale of New Glarus beer 'Only In Wisconsin' for all time. So enough about the beer now on to Piggly Wiggly. First off, that name is amazing. I've heard of the chain before and know that it's quite reputable. On our drive from Milwaukee to St. Louis, this particular Piggly Wiggly is the PERFECT stop for a beer pickup. The alcohol selection at Piggly Wiggly is amazing! There were so many amazing craft beer selections, all of which were Wisconsin based! The Piggly Wiggly had every selection available from New Glarus. From Spotted Cow to Moon Man, we had so many options. There were also so many other brewery options. We got beers from Point brewery and also from MKE Brewery and Great Dane. Loved their focus on local. As for the actual grocery portion of this store, I can't comment too much. We walked around briefly and it was... a store! We did want to buy some pretzels for our journey, but there were only two lines open and they were packed. Would have loved to have seen more lanes open to get patrons through quicker. At the end... my biggest feedback is that if you're driving south from Milwaukee and are looking for a quick stop to get New Glarus beer to enjoy at your final destination, Piggly Wiggly is your best bet.

The place is inside a gasoline station which is always sketchy but I will try anything at least once. The menu will be posted because I can't find one so I will show you what they have. I'm a big time rib guy so I stuck to my rule that if I don't smell smoke I only do the half rack. I ordered the half rack dinner that comes with an option of 2 sides and corn bread which I chose Mac and jambalaya. The ribs were meaty fall clean off the bone with a nice texture, not the super soft steamed meat texture but not the little chew texture that I like. The meat was moist and tender but not very smokey and the bark didn't scream anything flavorful to me either so this is a mild bbq that in my opinion needs sauce which I got on the side so I could properly evaluate the bbq. The sides were average which is not a bad thing because they were not terrible. The Mac and cheese was not cooked to total mush with a thick creamy cheese sauce with a small mild cheese flavor. The jambalaya was once again just average and not terrible either with tomato's, chicken and sausage. The corn bread was very good because it was very fresh and moist with that soft creamy texture, not the saw dust kind that chokes you. Overall it's just average bbq and not bad with everything being consistent, it's not the worst or the best bbq that I have had.

One thing I find about all these, is there meat for the most part doesn't have additives like water when you get their brand names unlike the big names. You look at ingredient list like in their marinara sauce and you cedars no preservatives or starches or sugars added like the cheaper store brands yet competitively priced with the less expensive marinara sauce. Using it as an example because most of the Aldi brand stuff they sell has fresh ingredients and no fillers. The biggest thing you have to watch out for is the dates on the packages. They are very understaffed and it's hard to keep up with that especially on dairy products. If you don't like bagging your own groceries or self checkout, good luck finding a store that has a checkout with humans. It's just the way things are nowadays. The store was fairly clean considering it was only 9 AM in the morning. Most employees were working hard, stocking shelves. And I still find their prices either competitive or cheaper than most. Especially compared to Wally world.
