Great find in Salt Lake. Stopped here after a long drive down from Jackson, Wy. The food was hot and very flavorful. Sandra has to be one of the most attentive servers ever. She took great care to assure enough space on the table to prevent burns from hot plates. It's easy access off of Interstate 15 was a big plus. read more

Growing up in Arizona, you find "real" Mexican food. Lorena's comes pretty close. The smothered burrito is my go to but anything I've tried has been excellent. And the service is excellent. I had a chicken and cheese quesadilla with rice and beans and everything was soooooooo good! My husband had a combo plate that had so much food he ate it for the next two days. This was my second visit and the food is ok. The price is great for what you get. TONS of food. You will never leave here hungry, even if you order a side dish. That being said, there was a huge let down. We had gratuity added to our check. It was only 15% and honestly the sever probably would have gotten more, but I think that gratuity is a bonus. Treat me and my family well and I will tip well. Don't and I won't. I have a family of 6 (2 adults and 4 kids 4-16). We eat out a fair amount and my children are very well behaved. We often have other patrons and restaurant owners compliment us on how well behaved our children are, so I don't think that was the reason for adding it. I have been going here for years and the only reason is their smothered burritos are the best. Especially the next day after the tortillas have absorbed the verde flavor. I order 3 smothered with cheese and a side of tortillas and never eat more than 1 the 1st day knowing the treat I will have tomorrow. And I'm a big eater! Hint: watch the charges as they most often will add in their tip on the bill and it's hard to tell because they just give a single amount on the ticket. Now this is good Mekhecan Food! Fast and Cheap Tex Mex style. Very Denny'sisk, but Spanish. Nice colorful murals on the walls really cute. I don't think I've ever waited more than 5-15 minutes for my meal to hit the table no matter how crowded. The only good thing about this food is the lettuce. Ordered the large combo platter. The tostada and taco was a mix of who the heck knows, but what they claim is it somehow beef. Open the taco and it looks like a baby's filled diaper tastes about what I imagine a diaper would taste like as well. Enchilada sauce was obviously canned. The Green chili burrito was a homemade tortilla with about 2 tablespoons of refried beans and a smidge of green chili sauce so it was pretty dry. The refried beans lacked flavor and the rice was dry and tasteless as well. I told the head hostess I didn't want to pay for the food and told her why. I couldn't eat any of the meal. Her comment was "fine, and don't come back". Ummmmm, did they really think I would after what they tried to serve me tonight? Pictures show it all, including what I left unbeaten. Save your money. The salsa comes in a ketchUp bottle and I don't even think I would call that salsa it was extremely watery. Then I ordered their tacos and the meat was watery and the food had absolutely no seasoning on it. It was so bland. I only ate a couple bites and then had to wait forever for my waitress to come back so I could say I didn't want this food. I have been going to Lorena's for over 20 years and after 3 straight horrible experiences, I will never be returning. Last Saturday we were there and the place was pretty dead (not a good sign). They had plenty of staff for the tables occupied but the service was ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS. The hostess didn't even talk to us-just walked to a table. Our server acted like she was annoyed we came in. I have never been treated so poorly by a server before and other patrons made comments as well. Then, the food. It has gone downhill so much. The tortilla chips were old/stale. The salsa was so watery. The tortillas were not fresh. The rice seemed like it was old and being re-served. My wife said her enchiladas tasted like cleaner. No one at our table enjoyed their food at all. It was not fresh and it didn't taste good. Little did we know that this was just the beginning. My wife and I both got food poisoning and were vomiting and miserable all night long. Other members of our party also had digestive issues. We reviewed their inspection records with the Davis County health department and they have a laundry list of violations including cockroaches and pests with repeat violations. See for yourself by looking it up on the health department website. When you don't run a clean restaurant, you treat your customers poorly and your food is terrible, you won't be in business long. I really enjoy the food here most of the time, however today my rice was burned and I hurt my tooth it was so hard. We had a party of 11 and when asked if we had enough chips I stated more would be great and they charged me for them. Also, I have a 4 and 5 year old and I asked for two plates and was charged one dollar which is ridiculous. When I mentioned this I was told it was on the menu. This was the worst service we asked for a strawberry lemonade, and our waitress said they had raspberry so she brought us a raspberry iced tea and then tried to charge us for it. The food was dry if I didn't have the sour cream to put all over the chimichanga I had it would have not been edible. We asked for a lid to go and she brought us another coke and was charged $2 for the to go cup. The food was expensive and not great plus they added gratuity for my family of 5 where 3 of them are kids. I would not have left a tip the waitress was terrible. We will never go here again. I wish we would have read the reviews before eating here. They have raised their prices but it is no where on the menu or posted anywhere it just said they had increased but did not say how much.
