Our server was attentive and efficient, and the food arrived hot and fresh. The salsa was honestly the highlight for me. It's served warm, which makes all the difference, and it's delicious. We have loved eating at El Matador's for over 30 years. We ate there again a few weeks ago and were extremely disappointed with the quality of the food and the portion size. I always order the same thing, this time with the first bite I immediately knew it wasn't the same flavor I knew and loved. My husband's usual go-to pork salad was also not the same. The shell was almost half the size and the flavor was lacking. We both agreed that this would be the last time we eat at El Matador's. We've lived here over 7 years and finally tried El Matador. I grew up in SoCal and like authentic Mexican food. This is not that. But I also love Mexican-American type food too (not Taco Bell- better and closer to the real thing than places like that). We have good places like that in SoCal too and I've decided it's time to fill that hole in my life here in Utah. This places does the job. It's not amazing. But it's pretty good. The enchilada sauces are phenomenal and cover a multitude of sins. My husband loved his enchiladas. Most of the meat we had was well cooked. My chili relleno was really good, especially with the sauce, but it was too much like fair food to eat more than a few bites. There is tons of cheese and it's battered and (deep?) fried. The tamale was pretty good, again, especially with the sauce. The chili verde, though....I had to try it because it's my favorite dish. Luckily we got it in addition to our 2 entrees. The a la carte bowl comes like a soup, and it's not green. I ate a few bites straight out of the bowl and it was ok. But once I put it in a tortilla, it was almost inedible. Everything was dry and hard to chew. I won't be getting that again. The place has a fun vibe. It was very busy on a Friday night at 7:30, but they got us seated within 10 minutes. There are a ton of tables and it seats a lot of people. It's also very well staffed and we never had to wait for anything. Because there are so many people, though, it is kind of loud. The food is absolutely terrible. My wife had a taco and a smothered burrito that you get more flavor if you actually go to Taco Bell and get a food from them. Our server was the best part of the whole experience. She was super sweet. It started off all wrong... we requested chips and salsa. Pretty standard request, but it was warm. Who in their right mind serves warm salsa. It tasted like warmed pace picante sauce and enchilada sauce mixed together. My husband had a burrito and I had tacos. Both our plates came out hot. The beans had already crusted over and looked like they had been on the plate all day and tasted like they opened a can and dumped them out. The rice had no flavor to it and was barely room temperature. The chicken on my tacos actually had flavor. Probably the best flavor we've found so far. It also tasted like a salt lick. The chicken was so wet that I had eat the tacos with a fork and they dropped everywhere. The shells looked like they went down the street to Del Taco and bought theirs. So in all this... save your money and just go down the street to Del Taco. If it wasn't for the server, it would be a 1 star. read more

First time coming here, a few of my friends told me how nice and amazing the people and food was so I had to try it, my friend and I decided to come. I got their before my friend and they still seated me and asked me what I wanted to drinks and my friend. Once my friend got there they came out and brought chips and salsa, and an appetizer for us. Which was delicious, there mango salsa is fire i love it. My friend ordered a smothered bean and cheese and pork burrito, she loved it and said how amazing it was. I got a carna asada burrito with extra cheese and sour cream. It was bomb i was impressed, i also wanted to try some shrimp and they didn't have a shrimp taco but they were able to make arrangements for me and made me a shrimp taco and it was delicious as well. Worst service we as a family have ever had! Ask for the manager because the server was so rude and the manager was questioning us like we were criminals. They said Kami the owner enforces the way they treat costumers and takes orders. They assumed my daughter was older than 10 and would not allow her to order a single taco off the kids menu. We have been eating at El Matador for years and now we will never be back with the way were treated. We had to walk out before we could even have the chance to order. We love the beef and chicken burritos, they are always on time with our order and set up the line with professionalism, the portion is huge, and the prices are very reasonable. I normally went to El matador in ogden so when they permanently closed, I decided to go to the one in bountiful ut. it is Tony's brothers restaurant who supposedly has same menu/food. shocked, food was discusting and expensive. nothing tasted good. sparse sauce on enchiladas. tacos were horrible. meat in both tacos and enchiladas were so salty. salsa was thin and tasteless. cheese for salsa was pricy. waitress was kind but lady up front was rude. we couldn't eat our food. it was so pricey we took it home thinking it would taste better later. not even the dogs would eat it. never thought I would dislike el matador food. wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. read more

This was a lovely experience. Not sure how it could have been better. I had not been to this place in a few years before last night. - The experience started out really positive with a lovely hostess who was nice and let us know she'd be a table quickly for us. Which she did in under five minutes. - After being seated our waitress was totally lovely and checked on us over and over. But not in an annoying way. She was on point. She brought us more chips and salsa once we ran out and had our waters always full. - The food was really great. I got smothered burrito and I'll tell ya it was on point. It had tons of chicken and peppers and all was done really well. My sister got the tour of Mexico dish and she loved everything. - After we were done eating a very nice woman (owner?
