There seems to be an abundance of independent eating establishments in the small pass-through town of Willets so the reviews were helpful. Else, we wouldn't have known about this little place on a side street. The restaurant is as cozy as a bistro with a nice, covered seating area in addition to the small dining room. The menu is impressive and primarily sandwiches and salads. (No French fries.) The Santa Fe Chicken sandwich was very good. The chicken Caesar Salad was fresh but I would have liked a little more chicken. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Note that they only accept cash or check and have an ATM. Very casual with styrofoam cups and paper plates.

Hometown favorite always have to visit when i return. The menu has always been a classic nothing has changed and the food is still tasting outta this world. No matter what the day or the weather this spot always hits. Best sandwiches in the town my favorite being the chicken pesto. Staff is always so friendly and the dinning room and patio are very comfortable with plenty of seating. Make sure to check this spot out.

Had a friend rave about this place while we were in town so I had to check it out. Snuggled dreamily on a one way street it evoked charm from the exterior as you can see. It is blessed by amazing flora and fauna that graces the outdoor patio section, which is peaceful and makes you feel like you are in another world. The staff is helpful, attentive, knowledgeable and amazing. The food choices were tremendous. My friend had the Cordon Bleu, which he is still talking about and my WigWag pastrami was it's equal. Definitely a must to frequent in Willits.

What a great find in the outskirts of Mendocino County. Very quaint and homey atmosphere with as you might have guessed a train motif. They have a dog friendly deck and indoor seating. Our server sat us quickly and answered our questions about a few menu options. I had a sausage sandwich that was tasty and the roll was grilled also. My wife had the roast beef and her sandwich was tender and good flavor. All in all the sandwiches were good but a bit more meat would have taken them over the top. read more

Ok I get why this place gets great reviews- the menu is super simple - sandwiches, hot dogs and salads - no burgers and no fries (but they have beer!). But wow are their sandwiches made with fantastic ingredients! I had their famous Santa Fe Chicken sandwich and every bite was a delight. My wife had their famous French Dip, swap mayo for garlic butter and add bacon...you might see it on the menu next! The train motif is very cool. It's a small but awesome place with a great vibe. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was top notch. We travel through that area frequently and it will now be our go to stop!!! read more

As a person from the city man all I can say is WOW. This place from the beginning was so beautiful outside dining and the atmosphere was amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and nice. We started with a raspberry and cherry Italian sodas super good, we had the Hot Kansas Turkey Depot in one word supercalifragilisticexpialidocious we also had the new Lemon Berry Mascarpone cake and we will definitely be back. No matter what the day or the weather this spot always hits. Best sandwiches in the town my favorite being the chicken pesto. This place is a gem. Not only is the food delicious but the service is wonderful. This place serves the best sandwiches I have ever tasted in my life. I had the Chattanooga chicken sandwich and wow it was delicious. Everything is made fresh and hot. Additionally, the restaurant is very cute. It's small but cozy. The only downfall is that they only accept cash. They do have an ATM in the restaurant, but obviously using an general ATM has fees. My boyfriend had the Santa Fe Chicken sandwich, which is their most popular and he was very impressed. I highly recommend trying this place out. read more

The caboose is a must stop in Willits. I rotate between the chicken pesto, French dip or club car with some garlic mayo. Always friendly staff and the cutest train car feel inside. Good music and lighting. read more

I discovered this spot on Yelp when looking for a place to get grab a bite en route from Sacramento to the Avenue of the Giants. It was about three hours from our hotel which put us in town right at lunch time. Although I was a bit concerned about there being a wait since we were on a tight schedule, it was a Tuesday and I was able to snag a table on the patio just as someone got up. The order process was a bit confusing and I'm not sure if it's due to covid safety or being short staffed. I had to go inside to place my order but only the patio was open for seating. Heads up that it's cash only! It took about 45 minutes for our two sandwiches to arrive, which was a bit longer than we expected. My boyfriend decided to take his vegetarian station sandwich to go but I had ordered a French dip, thinking we'd be eating at the table. Luckily, I only ordered a half sandwich and I managed to quickly eat it before we hit the road. The French dip with roast beef and swiss was good but could have used a little something, maybe horseradish or a garlic aioli, to take it to the next level. There were several other sandwiches that I considered ordering and in hindsight I wish I'd ordered one of the more unique ones, like the Chatanooga Chicken or Pesto Chicken. As for the Vegetarian Station, my boyfriend said he really liked the crunch of the sunflower seeds. read more

Worth the extra distance from the highway. Super cute patio cafe with delicious sandwiches, salads and hot dogs. The beef dip was amazing. I recommend the garlic mayo on it. The chicken pesto sandwich was also served hot and delicious. No sides except a big pickle spear but the sandwiches were huge and we wouldn't have had room. Friendly service, very clean. Parking can be tricky but worth it for this gem. read more

I have been coming here my entire life. This place has been consistently fantastic. My favorites are the Chattanooga Chicken, Meatball Express and Wig Wag Pastrami. - This place only accepts cash - Several locals that I met, mentioned this location in Willits, CA. The staff was friendly and the location is right off Main Street. I ordered the meatball sandwich. The bread was good and it had a decent bit of marinara sauce. It was unique with red onions and black olives. I felt the price was outrageous for what I received but I guess it's normal portion/cost ratio for California. read more

Stopped by on our way up the 101 highway. Delicious! I had the Wig Wam pastrami sandwich and my girlfriend had the Santa Fe chicken. We were still talking about the sandwiches two days later. Wish they had been open on Sunday, when we were driving back through. read more

The food was good and the service was awesome. Our server was super nice. The sandwiches were really good but they didn't come with a side, which for the price seemed kind of ridiculous. The kids hot dog didn't come with anything and for 6-7$ for just the hot dog without a drink or side was super steep. The pesto chicken and the veggie rice soup was very good. I'm not sure we will come again due to the steep prices for kids food. Wish it came with chips or something.. read more

Stopped here for lunch after riding the Skunk Train. Absolutely great sandwiches. Wife had the Chattanooga chicken sandwich minus some veggies and l had the Railroad combo. Very friendly service. OMG - this place is a gem!! So glad we happened to find it on our vacation - they had fun named dishes, fun decor, and prices were decent. The sandwiches were different than anywhere else we'd gone, it's NOT a Subway or basic deli - the chicken sandwiches had actual chicken breasts, not lunch meat. The Rueben Dip was the best one my husband had ever had. Service was great, everyone was genuinely friendly, didn't make you feel like a burden. It was quick service, but you didn't feel rushed either. Wish it was closer to home!! read more

We opened our doors in 1988, in the "caboose" of the old Country Mall, with just a few sandwiches and salads on our menu. Since then we have relocated, expanding both our establishment and our menu. We have become famous for having the best sandwiches in the area. Jill Persico, along with our amazing Loose Caboose staff, pride themselves on always serving quality food, having excellent customer service and making sure your dining experience is memorable. That's my experience of Northspur. I've never stopped here with friends, but I've thought of my friends while I've visited. As in, this is a place my friends would really like. They could be faking but I don't think they are. The Willits bypass as observed by others and maybe other places by me was an unnecessary boondoggle that not only separated normal CA taxpayers from their money so as to avoid maybe five minutes extra travel time as they whisked north to ... to where would anyone need to be whisked in the north. I-5 is for whisking. 101 is for a different kind of trip. Not only that, the bypass also then has folks that don't know what's in Willits pass right on by. Their loss, though also a stake in the heart of the vitality of local business. Thanks, legislature, Caltrans and people that make money building things we don't need. This then for the people that would otherwise whisk by without stopping and are maybe hungry and turn to Yelp as the leave Ukiah to see what's ahead. Northspur is ahead, my friends. And if it's late in the day, get a room in town so you can sample every drop Northspur has to offer. The vittles aren't complicated, the menu isn't exhausting - but everything on it is good. The brewed offerings are delicious. Staff is straight out of Lake Woebegone (all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average). Friends with friends are having a rollicking good time and the vibe vibes with this happiness. I will stop every time. Try it once and I guarantee you will as well.

Fantastic Experience at Loose Caboose Restaurant! My family and I yesterday visited the Loose Caboose Restaurant, and we had an absolutely delightful experience! We ordered two sandwiches , cheesecake blueberry and a hot dog, and each bite was bursting with flavor. The ambiance of the restaurant was charming, especially for my son who adores trains. The walls adorned with vibrant train paintings and photos of trains everywhere made the atmosphere truly special. It felt like dining in a cozy train-themed paradise! The food exceeded our expectations, and the service was exceptional. The staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall wonderful experience. The food was amazing. The staff very nice. Had the Pesto Chicken Sandwich. BUT... Why cash or check only? Not a good thing to find out when you don't carry cash and are traveling. Conveniently they had a ATM Machine at the counter for you. The $2.95 fee to get your cash was unexpected. There's this thing called Square that might help this place take cards.
