A solid addition to the Middleton eating and drinking scene. Beer selection and tap system is top notch. The same owner as Brasserie V and here they have much fewer taps but always several beers I've never seen on tap in Madison before. The shared plates are perfect for a group or a meal for a couple...and that is the small size. I've never even seen a large plate yet! The sandwiches I've had have been ok, but the brisket was fatty and messy. I pointed out a large piece of fat to the bartender and he made a face and walked away. Hence to only 4 stars. Wow. I lived in Williamsburg Brooklyn, known for its rude hip staff for 10 years and have NEVER recieved such rude condescending ssrvice. We really enjoyed our visit to Longtable Cafe. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food tasted just fine. If I had a wish, it would be for more draft beer variety. A lot was sold out and there wasn't much for someone like me, a pilsner drinker. True, there is their wall of beer and I'm sure there would have been a good choice for me, but stepping up in front of 100s of beers is a hard call for me. I decided to try this place during restaurant week and get take out. Ordered the 25$ bbq plate, placed the order through their 3rd party website, which said the order would available immediately. After waiting 30 minutes, i went to the pick up window, and waited 25 more minutes outside while my order was being "prepared." I would expect not wait for bbq as everything is premade, and the oortuon was very small, especially since most restaurants are offering 25$ meals for 2. The meal was small, and very basic. The sauces for the pulled pork was grainy and beef tasted bland. It wasnt worth the money (especially at 2x the rate of other restaurant week places), wasn't worth the wait, and I regret tipping. We were in from Nashville visiting my mom over Thanksgiving. Seven of us came for lunch. I ordered the salad with spinach, arugula, beets, and fried goat cheese and a side of farro salad. First off, there was not a single arugula leaf in the salad, only spinach, but I wasn't told that when I ordered. Secondly, the "fried" goat cheese was a single patty of at LEAST 5 ounces - gross! Who wants to eat a hamburger-sized glob of goat cheese?! A few beets, which were fine, but sparse. As for the farro salad - tasteless! It was advertised as being farro and winter squash, and I got one, yes, ONE piece of squash about the size of a plump raisin! What a waste of money! I love coming to the Middleton/Madison area for all the great places to eat, but the Longtable was a total bust! Go somewhere else! read more

The beer was amazing! The selection was extensive! I had a passion fruit berlinger weisse and my friend had a grapefruit cider that was really good. 5 stars for the beer! 4 stars for the atmosphere--Lots of natural light and large communal style tables... where the problems lie is with the cheese curds. curds are a staple of the Wisconsin bar and restaurant scene. I'll admit I expect to find superb curds pretty much everywhere I go... let me remind you we're in Wisconsin! The curds were large but they were poorly prepared, the fryer oil may have been old or contaminated with other fried foods? I'm not sure what happened but they were not great they were almost soggy. The dips helped, we had the trio or aoli's but I honestly couldn't have eaten them without it. If they up their curd game I will surely return! Our neighbors at our table ordered a salad with goat cheese and a cheese platter both looked very promising! This place is awesome! Fun open concept with a bunch of beers for purchase in the cooler as well as beers on tap. The pretzel, goat cheese puffs, fries, and corn salad are all AWESOME. As a long time diner at Brasserie V, we anticipated LongTable would be an extension of the brand. Rather, we found a limited menu, poor service and odd at-counter ordering. Recommend expanding the menu for family friendly fare and more robust meals rather than meat and cheese plates. Met friends for dinner at Longtable and had a great time. I was a little put of as someone reviewed it as a "hipster spot" but the crowd was definitely not hipster but a range of ages and casual. There are plenty of tables so you don't need to share a table unless it gets really crowded. This evening they rolled up two glass garage doors and offered seating on their patio which will be a little more welcoming once the apartments next door are completed. A HUGE selection of canned beers from around the world and a good selection of tap beers, albeit a lean toward "hoppy" beers. Food was excellent, we had a wide range (burgers to salads), and the grilled cheese a second time to share because it was so good! Service was fast, efficient, and the staff is very friendly. You order food at the counter (canned beers are in an open cooler and taps at a bar) and they bring everything to you. I never noticed that it was loud and there are a couple of TVs so we could keep up on the Brewers game. Highly recommended! read more

My husband and I love this place, we live in the neighborhood and were so excited when it opened! The beer selection is great, always interesting options on tap and a great selection in the cooler. There are also options for everyone not just beer nerds like us. The food is also great. We have visited many times so we have had a chance to explore the menu quite a bit - we love the pulled pork sandwich and breaded pork tenderloin sandwich but their salads, sausages, and starters are also great. Definitely a warm and family-friendly environment as well. It's especially nice in the summer when the doors and patio are open. My husband and I visited today for our anniversary. We found the restaurant confusing to customers. Exactly where is the front door? Where do you order? How does this place work? We didn't receive our glass of wine right away like other customers. The employee behind the counter wasn't very helpful. I ordered a gluten free sandwich and he allowed me to order a gluten side to go with , no questions asked. Either the owner or the cook came out from the kitchen to inquire about my order and told me my side wasn't gluten free. Thankfully before I ate it. The food was actually pretty good but customer service needs improvement. There was an unruly child running around screaming in the restaurant. Not the owners fault but that can sure ruin an anniversary lunch. My husband's water glass was dirty. After my husband placed our order he said he didn't know how they were suppose to find us. No number, name nothing. Then the guy behind the counter came out with a sign with my husband's name on it. He never asked my husband his name he took his name off his credit card. Terrible set up for a restaurant. Saw other customers trying to find the front door and figure out where to place your order????? I don't write many of these. I'll start out by saying the food was good. The selection of beer is fantastic. The lady at the register was helpful and was very nice and accommodating. The service however was not. First of all we picked a small area to sit but, after our apps arrived and were eating them we were told by the owner that in 40 min a party would taking the room for a private tasting event. He said we could stay but, given it was only 40 min away we decided to accommodated him and sat in main dining area. When the food started coming out they only brought out my sons and my friends meals. There was no explanation. The owner and the the waitstaff kept looking in our direction and we waited. It wasn't until after my guests had finished their meals did my meal arrive. I asked if it was normal practice to bring meals out in this manner and the woman said it was not. Later she returned and said that they would take a percentage off my bill. I can report it was the smallest percentage they could've taken. Three meals, two beers with an app was still $70+ after their "refund". My family and I and friend have all worked in the service industry...they'll need to step it up and iron out the creases in their kitchen organization and their customer service skills before I return..which will be never. There are plenty of places in the metro area to spend money at. I had high hopes for them. read more

I went with a big group and the consensus was that most of the dishes were not up to par and overpriced. The cheese curds were flavorless and the breading was gummy, the farro was over salted. Visited the Longtable for the first time last night and I was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely unlike any place in the Middleton area. The food was delicious and I loved seeing the list of farmers and growers the restaurant buys from. The only thing I kinda had an issue with was the fact that they sell beer/wine by the bottle or the glass - at an expensive price. Unfortunately you can't buy a pitcher of beer which is a lot more cost effective - I was with two other people last night and it cost us $19 for three glasses, not pints, of beer. I'll definitely go back but I don't think I'll order alcohol anymore because the food + beer for three people cost $52. That cost doesn't sound as bad as I thought for three people, but considering the portion sizes of food and beer, it was a bit too pricey. read more

Eh. Great atmosphere, interesting menu on paper, but execution is lacking. Their beer cheese soup is grainy and an unappetizing grey color. It tasted more like the base for sausage gravy than soup. Not a fan. And what they advertise as Belgian frites is not even close by a mile. What this place serves are simply overseasoned food service fries. Just looking up the word for "fries" in a French dictionary and putting it on the menu doesn't qualify what they serve as "frites", which are, by definition, a very specific cut of potato cooked in a very specific manner. They should be thick-cut logs of peeled potatoes that are then twice fried. The outside will be crispy and the inside will be fluffy and light piles of delicious potato heaven. I adore frites, have had frites in many places in my life all over Europe and at Pommes Frites in NYC (an excellent example in the U.S.) and what Longtable serves are not frites. So disappointing. Lastly, the goat cheese and beet salad was good-- fresh greens, flavorful dressing. BUT the goat cheese croquette served on top was a beast. Seriously, it was something between a hockey puck and baseball-sized hunk of goat cheese enough for 3 people. Totally unnecessary. I'd have been thrilled with 3 small croquettes the size of silver dollars. This thing was insane. I guess I'll try one more time and order different things in case I just went on a bum day or whatever. But this place has me confused as far as the food menu goes. Maybe that's the point-- it's about beer, not the menu? read more

Love this place! In addition to great beer on tap they also carry lots and lots of beer that you can buy in a can or bottle. Lots of larger tables, so great for larger groups and small groups as well. Food (including appetizers) is amazing! Great place for happy hours or dinner! read more

Longtable is a nice little hipster spot in Middleton. They have a large selection of bottled beers and ciders. A smaller menu of appetizer type options. I didn't get any food from there but have heard it's all ok but normal, nothing out of the ordinary or unique. My main cons was that the place has horrible acoustics, so it's very loud which makes it hard to talk to whoever is with you. And like the name says, they have long tables there, so you will end up sitting by other people which was also kind of problematic depending on how people space themselves out and how large your group is. Bathrooms were very nice and clean. The chairs/seating are very uncomfortable though in the dining area. Right off the bat when I was there, I wanted to order one of their special beers on tap to give it a try, and of course, they said "oh we're out of that". Not a good start. I don't go order drinks with a back up plan, so that was just annoying that they were already out and it was maybe 6 or 7pm on a Friday.... at a beer café. To buy your beer whether you grab it from the display (bottles) or to get whatever is on tap, you have to go up to the counter each time. So the line can get long and did, when I was there and they only had 2 people working registers. Whoever is working the register is also grabbing your beers so it definitely got slow. So when they were out of what I wanted, it was too late for me to grab something from the fridge display so I just had to pick someone else at random because I didn't want to get back in line. Not to mention it was so loud I had to practically yell to the guy at the register. Overall a cute place, but I can't say I'd come here on my own without an invite to meet up with others who are already there. read more

I had my first experience going to this new restaurant on a Friday at 1pm. There were plenty of places to sit at this time. The restaurant is full of big tables with long benches which are difficult to navigate around (not the most comfortable.) The food was just ok, nothing that stands out. The worst part was the horrible customer service. I don't know if the man taking my order behind the register had a bad day or if he just hates dealing with people in general, but he literally rolled his eyes at me and pointed to the board when I had to ask about what sides I could order. To top it off, I was confused about the tea choices, and he was visibly annoyed with a rude and impatient tone. I'm sorry, but you are in customer service! And I had never been there before! Because of this experience, I won't likely be back. There are better places to go. read more

Where do I begin? I have been here twice so this isn't a one off experience. The first problem we encountered was evident both visits, they do no have enough menus for people as they stand in line. It is a little thing but people get aggravated they have to find a menu or worse wait for someone to order because they have only had a menu for 2 minutes... especially if you are there with a family who needs a few extra minutes to decide. Tonight we placed our order and waited for about twenty minutes for our food... not too long, but longer than expected for a place your order at the counter sort of place. The first order the community burger was ordered with the beer cheese soup... but came out with the daily soup. So the order was wrong. Not a huge deal and not nearly strike two... but then we realized both of our kids food (burger with Fries, Brisket sandwich with carrots) were not up to par. The Buns on both of those sandwiches were ice cold like they just came out of the refrigerator... then we realized my wife's community burger was just as cold. So we sent back the buns and the incorrect soup to fix the problem... well kids being kids they just ate the meat and fries while we waited 10 more minutes for warmed buns... Meanwhile the carrots were obviously sliced much earlier maybe even a day before as they were wilted, gross and a gross shade of brown on the ends-pre-rotten. Our kids ate their fill of the burger while we waited for buns and my wife decided to eat her burger before it became as cold as the bun. They bacon which was on the cold bun was also gone to be reheated. When the server brought out the new buns for the kids, she said they were still working on the community burger bun and will bring it out in a few minutes, which honestly was no longer wanted as the ten minute wait and the additional five for her bun was ridiculous. When I looked at mayo based dipping sauce for the fries we realized they had been scooped out and left out on a counter hours earlier as the top oxidized and formed a gross crust. So I decided to speak with the manager to explain our frustrations with the experience. The manager's first words were "What seems to be the problem"... no hi my name is or how may I help you. I let him know that I believe his kitchen staff is phoning it in, I am not looking for anything just wanted him to know. He replied "well what do you want?". I reiterated that I didn't want anything other than our warmed buns for the burger and that a mayo based dipping sauce should not be left out at especially on a counter at room temperature. His reply- "well that is what happens when it is exposed to air". So Clearly this guy didn't get my point, the food preparation is lazy, the attention to detail is shit and overall I am not happy with the service or food we were served. I did enjoy the Italian sub I had but honestly based on this experience they should only focus on serving cold food and charcuterie plates. One cold sandwich doesn't save the experience. Avoid this place and save yourself a chance of food poisoning for some room temperature mayo concoction left on the counter because they can't be bothered to mix or dip as needed. We will not be back. Two experience, one mediocre and one shitty one and we know all we need to about dining here.... So-Long Table. I wish this place was better but it is what it is. read more

Middleton - Not Kid Friendly, Pricy for the food: They want $5.95 ($6.28 with tax) for a plain Oscar Meyer type hot dog on a 15 cent bun, about 13 French fries and a ~3" Dixie cup with about 2 inches of apple juice. Really? It was $12.56 to get two plain hot dogs for my school age girls? Adult food: About one third of the Brisket Sandwich consisted of slabs of fat about 1/2"x1/2"x1.5" in size or so. Maybe some people like to slurp down large pieces of fat? For its price, it comes with nothing (except giardieniera - a mix of small peppers and the like that goes on the sandwich). The edible parts were okay, but not memorable. Not worth $13. You're looking at around $50 dollars for 2 hot dogs, two sandwiches and a couple of beers (Nice wall of beers though). I suggest they offer a lean version of their food, and cut the kid menu price by half. read more

Slept on it, and even day after still need to post this review. This was my one and only visit, will elaborate below. My family and I are new in town, enjoying sampling all the wonderful places that make up downtown Middleton. The dining experience inside Longtable does not live up to the inviting look from the outside. Beer selection is fine (didn't carry my fav Ballast Point from San Diego though) but local fine grocery stores carry similar. The ordering of a simple meat and cheese plate was anything but. Too many customer choices to make a platter- why does long table expect me to know what meat/cheese selections will pair well?? Isn't this what your chefs are for? Ordering was not easy, and Staff not helpful as they couldn't explain all the items. Anyway, you guessed it, my meat/cheese choices were bad, and I have no idea why they think drizzled honey was good on this platter. This was a fail, and I was the architect! I would've been very embarrassed by this (not cheap) charcuterie board if I had invited guests to join us. While we're on subj of $... $50 on a board and drinks and I have to get my own water? Folks, try to enjoy Longtable if you must (was great sitting outside hence the 1 star), but I don't get the concept and recommend you dine/drink elsewhere when in downtown Middleton. read more
