Incredibly helpful service by owners of this family owned business. I have bought my previous queen mattress from longs and went back all these years later for a new king mattress. I was planning to tryout tempurpedic or Saatva, but decided to visit good old reliable Longs before doing anything else. After speaking with owner a out what I was seeking in a mattress, the owner had me try a couple of different models. my husband paid his own visit to test the mattresses. The sales help is friendly, professional, and helpful. There's no sales pressure and the store is clean and pleasant with a good range of mattresses to sort through at all price points. Unfortunately the firm Eclipse mattress Bob told me would work, and I agreed to, showed signs of depression after just a few weeks no matter how many times I flipped the mattress. It is the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever owned. I waited many years to replace my fabulous 2 sided Sterns and Foster mattress. It was firm, comfortable and flexible enough to bounce back after years of sleeping and working on it. I was hoping to replace it for something similar but could only find one sided. Then a friend told me about Long's. I eventually purchased an Eclipse firm, despite having never heard of the name (I'm a Sterns & Foster or Simmons girl). The organic top wasn't too dimpled as to interfere with the smooth look I wanted and I was assured it would perform similarly to my S&F. It was delivered with a box spring that made the bed too high. The company said they had a lower 5" bedspring in their warehouse they could give me but at an extra cost. I said okay since it had to work for my 5'2" frame. So the height eventually worked out. Maybe it's the organic material but with just one night's sleep that depression stays. Despite numerous flipping the depressions stay put and are deeper where our hips touch. The edging of the bed where one sits also gives way quickly. I keep trying different parts of the bed to even it out but it doesn't help "lift" what's already given way. Maybe it's the basic construction but after the first week it felt as though I owned an old mattress. Long story short (no pun intended) I'll be using this experience to, hopefully, find another one. It's too bad as the staff and their reputation is very good - hence the 3 stars. (PS: To use as a comparison we have a 10 year old one sided Simmons in another location that's still bouncy, with support and sharp edging making a nice, crisp looking bed.) read more

Was ready to buy a Saatva but decided to make one last stop, at Long's on the Upper East Side, and I'm so glad I did. For the same price, I got a much better mattress, composed of natural, higher-quality materials. (A friend who'd obsessively researched mattresses for herself knew all about things like coils and various kinds of latex. I bought the East End model.) The store is nothing glamorous (though we hear the new location will be fresh and modern), but you come here for the service and quality. I bought a sofa bed from Long's April 2019, had to have it repaired within the first 3 wks, then had another problem, now a bar that supports the sofa has broken & now the company & the manufacturer Rowe Furniture expect me to pay $550 for transportation & labor. This sofa bed has been a lemon since day 1 & was not cheap over $2,000. The owner 's daughter is one of the rudest people I have ever encountered, as she finally told me throw the couch out & get a new one. Truly excellent experience with Bob, Judie, and the rest of the team. Bob was incredibly patient as my wife and I tried bed after bed, and then tried our top three beds over and over again. Bob was very knowledgeable about all of the beds in the showroom and guided us as we critiqued each bed with our particular likes and dislikes. We picked an excellent mattress that we have enjoyed over the past four months, and we got a great price for the bed. We are very satisfied! The delivery crew showed up at the scheduled time and very efficiently set up the bed. We were pleased that the team did not damage the floors and walls in our apartment while bringing all of the items in and setting them up. I got careful attention when I was seeking a new mattress, and delivery and setup took place exactly in the window scheduled by people who knew what they were doing. Very happy. They promised to give us a few days notice and instead called and said that the sofa was on the truck and they were coming right then - even though we protested and said that it was inconvenient. We had planned take a day to find a good home for our old couch. Instead we had to have them take the couch out. They sent too few people and made gashes in our wall. I called and was told that we must have misunderstood because they would never do just deliver something without making a previous appointment. They took no responsibility. After speaking with them we went downstairs to figure out what to do with the old couch and found that the delivery folks had irrevocably broken it on the way down stairs. Super nice sales folks the actual guys who delivered it were very nice, but the delivery dispatch is was a total disaster and they claim that it was just a "misunderstanding". I wouldn't have written this if I felt like they were interested in fixing this for other people. We already had a great bed from them and before this I had every intention to get our next bed from them. read more

I purchased a $1200.00 mattress and gave it a two month adjustment period. After two months I was finally clear that I could not work with the mattress; each morning brought a painful waking up experience. I called Long's and the salesman was very understanding. Although the policy is clear, "No returns" he would see what could be done. He came and "inspected" the mattress and verified what my needs were. A week passed; I heard not a word. Finally I called; he asked a couple of "clarifying" questions and promised that as soon as his email to the manufacturer was answered he would call me back...( If he really want ed to resolve the problem couldn't he just call the manufacturer?) It has now been one full week and three days; the promised call back has not happened. I've had my last experience with Long's and won't recommend it to anyone else. read more

Just had the best experience shopping at Long's in an otherwise crazy time. We bought beds from Long's when we moved apts on the UES a few years back for our kids' bunkbeds. They were simple and affordable, but every time an adult guest has come to visit and slept in the bunkbeds, they always tell me how surprisingly comfortable the mattresses are. Now we are sadly in the position where we are leaving the city for NJ and I decided that after not having purchased a bed for myself in the last 18 years that it was time. Luckily Long's ships to NJ, Ct, etc etc etc! We felt safe and comfortable with our by-appt-only visit during quarantine times and were able to wash our hands and browse safely knowing that Terri (owner) sanitizes after each visit! The kids picked beds that were perfectly priced and Terri never tried to upsell us. She showed us the best mattress in our price range and then we ended up up-selling ourselves with ZERO pressure from Terri. We felt so comfortable, not pressured, and confident in Terri's expert knowledge that we decided to buy bed frames from Long's as well. This review is fourteen years overdue, but, for what it's worth, Long's was 5 stars fourteen years ago when I bought my first bed there, and it's still 5 stars now, having just sent me daughter and son-in-law there to get a bed for their first apartment, and it's been five-stars all those years in between during which time I've sent many friends to Long's for beds, and every damn one of them has been thankful for the recommendation (and, if you knew me, you would know that my friends are, shall we say, not the easiest to please of individuals!). There are only two reasons why Long's is the best (not good, not great, but sincerely, "the best", or, as one of my friends decribed it after getting a bed there, "Long's in an Olympic 10!"). The first reason is the people. They aren't salespeople who can work in "bedding" today and tomorrow they'll be working in "housewares". They aren't people in some bedding chain store where the salespeople come and go. This is a quintessential family owned business, selling beds, nothing but beds, in Manhattan for about a century. Every bed I've bought there, now three, has been from someone who's last name is "Long". They don't just know beds, they breathe and live beds, and are so knowledgable and so protective of their reputation that you know from the second you walk into the store that you've come to the right place. If you're the type of person who goes to the Mayo Clinic for your annual check-up because you insist on the best, then you're buying your beds at Long's. The second reason to go to Long's is very simple, they've got the best beds. Period. Not "best bed" but rather, "best beds", plural -- there are obviously different types of beds with different materials and different amounts of firmness, etc., and Long's has the best of each category. It's like the last day at Westminsiter Kennel Show, when they've got the best of each breed. Bob and Judie are so lovely and personable and took the time to find out in detail what exactly we had and what exactly we were looking for. We found a bed we liked in about 15 minutes for a great sale price for the set and added on some pillows. I received a crib mattress from Long's Bedding as a gift for my newborn. He loves it so much, and has been sleeping through the night since practically the first night we moved him from the bassinet into the crib! Each night we notice how comfy and soft the crib looks and we want to jump right in with him. Like most, I was suckered into the zillion-dollar advertising campaigns from one of those all-too-familiar "chain" stores throughout the years. When a friend recommended Long's to me, I decided to give them a try. Long story short (pun maybe intended this time), I will never shop anywhere else again for my mattress/bedding needs! My husband and I absolutely adore our new mattress and our children adore theirs as well. The prices are extremely reasonable and there is a range to fit everyone's budget. The quality is exceptional, so we probably won't need any new mattresses any time soon, but if you are in the market for new bedding, head straight to Long's!!!! read more

We bought an overstuffed convertible couch in a custom fabric after sitting on the showroom model about 3 months ago. The buttons holding the oversuffing are breaking off already and poking us. This couch was not cheap either. We also had to fix extensive damage to our walls and front door because Long sent two guys to deliver the couch, one of which was a trainee, instead of the three experienced guys they promised. Our delivery notice came about an hour before they were to arrive, instead of a day or two so we could remove pictures and fragile things from the delivery path. We bought a great bed from them about 10 years ago, got great service, but we won't be returning after this experience. read more

Bob and the other people who helped us were helpful and patient. The delivery team was great - and very courteous and professional. The shop has a good range of products - though it is relatively small... one shortcoming was that most sample mattresses were single beds so it was hard to 'share' with my wife to see how movement affected each other. Ironically the 1/2 star ding is because I feel we didn't explore all the options for frames and foundations and decided to make some returns. The reason I didn't hit them for a whole star is they made every effort to accommodate our concerns and gave us excellent service on the exchange. The worst customer service experience of any business I have ever purchased a product from. Under no circumstance should you purchase anything from this store. They are rude when you call them. The only information they keep is a paper copy of your sales receipt. They stuff it in a filing cabinet. Had a problem with the mattress I purchased and it was a nightmare. Keep your paper receipt if you purchase anything from this store. I had a similar problem when I bought a mattress from Essentia. I contacted customer service and they had all of my information on file. I sent them a few photos and they replaced the mattress with no headache. I would highly recommend Essentia and Sleepy's. My experience with both retailers has been nothing short of fantastic. I am currently purchasing another mattress and will not be going to Long's. read more
