Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Steakhouse Mac & Cheese
Tiffany J.

There was no wait when we walked in, which was great. However, it did seem like they were short-staffed, so service was a bit slow. The food was good as expected once it finally came out, and the restaurant was pretty busy overall. It was an okay visit -- not bad, just could've been a little quicker.

Crispy Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich and Seasoned French Fries

Yelp! It's the middle of the day and we got a 20-25 min wait. Cause, they only got 3 servers and it's lunchtime. LONGHORN IN GARDENDALE IS HIRING, note the stars. Although we had a long wait, the food and service was epic. Let me start with the best server in the house, Brendlee. I might be spelling it wrong, but I love this name. So sweet, accommodating and attentive with a big smile on her face. Girl, I love it. Never let them see you sweat. No attitude! No blowing. Just, "can I get you anything else", sure, get me the manager. Yes I did, cause there is one here that knows how to give the people what they want but, MS BRENDLEE. Thank you girl! Oh, Im here for this food. My Bae got my favorite, pork chops with mashed potatoes and a side salad. Looks delish. I got this delicious fried chicken sandwich with fries and a strawberry pecan salad. This stuff here good. But, this chicken sandwich though! I'm bout to get in that kitchen and smack somebody. Whew! Yummy! Yall already know, when I'm happy, I'll be back.

We checked in online so not a long wait at all. Got seated within 20 minutes or less. Busy night being Valentines but we had a great server, Brittany and she was kind and got our order correct. The steak was cooked medium well as instructed and all of it tasted great and hubs got the same thing except fries and his was great too! We def recommend them for their great food! And the ambiance is casual, darker lighting.

Salmon with loaded potato

Food was pretty good. Came out fresh. I ordered the 7 oz salmon, was a teeny bit dry. But my loaded potato was good. My mom had the NY strip which was cooked just the way she wanted and she enjoyed it. Service was so so, nothing to really rave about. But the dining room was nice and clean. Not too loud. My white peach sangria was yummy! Drank it down! Lol.

Out to lunch with my mom and she wanted some spinach dip . This is the only place in the area with delicious spinach dip . The waitress Brinley I think was her name. Was very friendly and attentive to our needs . We ordered from the lunch menu. Food came out hot and delicious. The place was crowded for lunch but still clean and the waitress never neglected us. I had the chicken sandwich and it was delicious. I couldn't eat all of it at once . So big . Yes I will return soon . Very good food.

Ribeye steak, loaded bake potatoe, aparagus
Rachel R.

We had the Ribeye steaks, asparagus, loaded bake potato, and mash potatoes. My steak was juicy but warm and my hubby's cowboy steak was to rare which me ask for medium- rare. The bake loaded bake potatoe and mash potatoes was hot and good. The aparagus was disgusting and had some red seasoning on it. They remade it but we was walking out. The manger did come out.

The burger was juicy and flavorful, and the Cajun ranch fries were my favorite! The pickle fries came in a generous portion. They served it with jalapeno ranch. They definitely have a great spot to watch and our kids loved it. The food itself was fairly good. I liked the burger with the brisket the best. My wife and I got two different burgers and split them so we could try several options. The other burger was the one with the mac and cheese. I liked it, but the brisket won the day. The mac and cheese side though was better than the mac and cheese on the burger and it was a great side to try as it had a good flavor - not something all burger places can say. I'd definitely come back, but make sure you look up flight times to try and time it to watch the flights if possible!

Wooden City is located off Morris Avenue in a shared row of older buildings. There's a private parking lot behind the building, and you can have your parking ticket validated at the restaurant. The location and vibe on Morris Avenue are really neat and uniquely Birmingham. It's a great addition to the city's dining scene. Our party of four started with drinks and shared three appetizers: the Bread and Butter, Heirloom Tomatoes, and Steak Tartare. My favorite was the Bread and Butter. It's house-made focaccia served with a sun-dried tomato spread and an oil dipping sauce. The bread was amazing. For my entrée, I ordered the Peel-and-Eat Shrimp from the appetizer menu. It was fabulous--a generous portion of large shrimp that were perfectly seasoned and grilled. For dessert, we shared the Chocolate Mousse and Blueberry/Blackberry Crisp. The crisp was my favorite. It was served hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream--an excellent way to finish the meal. While Wooden City doesn't have a large menu, everything we tried was very well done. I definitely recommend giving it a try, but don't be in a hurry. The service was a little slow during our visit.

We snagged some seats at the bar and had some drinks and shortly after that, our table was ready. And they were able to keep everything on one check, which was nice. No need to settle the tab and start a new one at the table. And the old fashioned I had was delicious. For food, we started with the Hungarian Hot Stuffed Peppers. These were pretty good and the heat gradually snuck up on you as you ate them. I don't know if it was because the heat was more intense as you worked your way towards the stem or just a gradual burn. Either way, these were good and worth the heartburn later. The thick focaccia helped with the burn a little. Speaking of heartburn, the pepperoni pizza may have contributed a bit to that too, but again, totally worth it. The cup-and-char pepperoni was charred nicely as were the edges and bottom! I love a nice bottom! These were easy to share between two of us. Service was amazing from the bartender to the waiter to the uber driver (who didn't really count, but nice job, man). We felt welcomed and I can see why the place was crowded on a Tuesday evening.

Several appetizers came out cold; we politely sent them back, and they returned hot. No issue there. I ordered a New York Strip cooked medium, with fries, a side of ranch, and a Caesar salad. When my steak arrived, it was not medium -- it was rubbery and very well done. I calmly asked for it to be remade and reassured the server that I understood it wasn't her fault. While waiting for the replacement, I asked -- very politely -- what happened to the salad that never came out. Her response was shocking. She said, "Y'all kept adding people. I have to make the salads, so I can't stop and make your salad." The tone was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. I replied, "Okay, can I just get everything together then?" She responded, "I don't know," with visible attitude and absolutely no apology. When the replacement steak arrived, unbelievably, it was once again well done instead of medium. I showed it to her directly. At that point, I asked for a manager. She casually said, "Sure," but no manager ever came. After waiting, I had to get up and find the manager myself. I explained that this was the rudest, nastiest, most unprofessional service I have ever experienced in my life. Thankfully, the manager handled the situation appropriately, apologized, and had the food remade correctly. The manager was wonderful -- attentive, professional, and solution-focused. The contrast was astonishing: one of the best managers I've encountered paired with easily the worst server experience in history. What should have been an enjoyable meal turned into a shocking display of poor service and disregard for basic professionalism.l

The baked beans are very flavorful and delicious too. I usually order the bone-in ribs, but you never know what you're gonna get. Sometimes they're meatier and juicier; other times they're cooked more, with a burnt-like skin. I personally like a little fat on mine, and those portions often lack that. But then come the onion rings. Oh my. I tried them today, and they were wonderful. Some Yelpers complained you don't get many. Well, I had to bag some up because I couldn't finish them alongside my other sides. These are not rings -- these are onion wreaths. Huge slices, made in-house, with a breading so good it should be illegal. I will definitely order them again, and I recommend others risk the carb coma. In fact, I bagged up most of my other sides too. It was a lot of food for one sitting. I felt like a bear preparing for hibernation. My husband commented that Memphis is known for barbecue, but Alabama has some great places too. Full Moon Barbeque is a prime example. Oh, and if you want to sample something on the menu, they're happy to oblige. I wasn't sure about an item, so they let me try it - much better than ordering a full portion and being disappointed. Honestly, I don't think you'll be dissatisfied with anything on the menu. The service here is excellent. Everyone is very friendly, helpful, and mannerly. They genuinely want to make sure you enjoy your food. They check on you without hovering, and they seem to actually care about your experience, not just turning tables. It's the kind of service that makes you want to come back. One more thing: if you want authentic Southern sweet tea, order it here. It's mouthwatering -- literally. The kind of sweet tea that makes your eyes close for a second after the first sip. Add a lemon slice, and you'll want more even after you've quenched your thirst.
