Full Moon BBQ has the best slaw I've EVER tasted! No matter how full I am, I'd always find room for that side. I could seriously eat the whole batch. The baked beans are very flavorful and delicious too. I usually order the bone-in ribs, but you never know what you're gonna get. Sometimes they're meatier and juicier; other times they're cooked more, with a burnt-like skin. I personally like a little fat on mine, and those portions often lack that. But then come the onion rings. Oh my. I tried them today, and they were wonderful. Some Yelpers complained you don't get many. Well, I had to bag some up because I couldn't finish them alongside my other sides. These are not rings -- these are onion wreaths. Huge slices, made in-house, with a breading so good it should be illegal. I will definitely order them again, and I recommend others risk the carb coma. In fact, I bagged up most of my other sides too. It was a lot of food for one sitting. I felt like a bear preparing for hibernation. My husband commented that Memphis is known for barbecue, but Alabama has some great places too. Full Moon Barbeque is a prime example. Oh, and if you want to sample something on the menu, they're happy to oblige. I wasn't sure about an item, so they let me try it - much better than ordering a full portion and being disappointed. Honestly, I don't think you'll be dissatisfied with anything on the menu. The service here is excellent. Everyone is very friendly, helpful, and mannerly. They genuinely want to make sure you enjoy your food. They check on you without hovering, and they seem to actually care about your experience, not just turning tables. It's the kind of service that makes you want to come back. One more thing: if you want authentic Southern sweet tea, order it here. It's mouthwatering -- literally. Chain restaurants aren't usually my thing, but I'll try a small regional one every once in a while. This place was hopping for a Tuesday night, which was a good sign. Let's start with the okra -- if you're from Indiana, the only fried okra you've probably had is from Cracker Barrel or Church's Chicken, and let's be honest, that's usually subpar. This, however, was perfect: not greasy, lightly breaded, and just the right texture -- not mushy, not hard. The deviled eggs weren't as good as mine (and that's a high bar), but they were still flavorful, light, and refreshing. Now, the smoked wings -- anyone who's tried to smoke wings knows how hard it is to get them right without turning them rubbery. These weren't crispy like fried wings, but they had tons of flavor and were cooked well. The surprise of the night was the barbecue sauce. For some reason, they insist on playing Fox News on the TVs, and it completely changes the vibe of what should be a relaxed dining experience. The meat was juicy, the fries reminded us of Texas Roadhouse fries, the coleslaw was a yummy vinegar-based slaw, and the baked beans were sweet. The pie was disappointing. This should probably be a 3.5 star but the quick efficient service bumped it up. Stopped ere on my way through Birmingham. It is a fast food type of barbecue place. It has counter service and they bring your food to the table. I had the pulled pork plate with fries and collards. It was all pretty tasty. Extra points for having corn bread with the collards and pepper vinegar on the table. The greens were solid. The pork came with chow chow and sweet sauce. It was good for a quick service place. We Love this bbq place! We stop here every time we are traveling to Destin. It's about the perfect lunch spot. We always have our Yorkies with us so the fact that they have a patio with tables works for us perfectly. The last time we were there they actually brought us a giant bone for our dogs to enjoy! We have eaten many dishes here. The brisket is delicious, pulled pork, the riblets, all wonderful. Even the catfish was wonderful! We like that they have a wide variety of sides. None of the meats had/or tasted like they had any seasoning on them. Ribs huge, fairly tasty and tender, not fall off bone tender. Brisket lean and no flavor. Pork chopped so small it looked like scraps off floor. Pork did come with a grilled bun so you could make a sandwich. A few sauces white/traditional to choose from. Baked beans were very tasty. My daughter and I rolled in here HANGRY after a long drive. We had tried to stop hours before getting here but it just wasn't working out. We didn't know what we wanted, we didn't know what they had, we barely knew who we were at this point. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I have been a customer here for many years. I can finally see that the portion sizes have decreased. Today I spent $70 there to get home and find that my ribs were chewy. I was just disappointed that they didn't give me any bbq sauce.. and I didn't think to ask for some since I assumed one would come with it. The cookie was hard as a brick talking about famous .. The people were semi-friendly, the restaurant was semi-clean, the food was semi-good, and the wait time was pretty long (~25 mins after we ordered when most was already made.) I WAS excited to finally try a location after only have had catered lunches. The lunches were fabulous. The cookies for a catered lunch were warm and amazing. In person really let me down. The portions are big. I'll give them that. But the food was inconsistent. My wife and I both got a pork plate. Her's was very fatty, mine was not. She got a bun, I got a small corn muffin. The mac-n-cheese was ok, but Chick-fil-A's is better, say what?! It was a little bland, but was gooey...so that's good. The fried tenders were good. The baked beans and greens were solid. The potato salad left a lot to be desired. The consistency and texture of the potatoes reminds me of store bought salads. I won't accuse of store potato salad, but I will not get again. The burger was solid, but couldn't make it all the way onto the bun for presentation. They have steak fries...why? So many better options for fries with this food. They were ok though. But even after all that my biggest disappointment was the cookies. No way the cookies I bought tonight were worth $1.15 per cookie. And certainly not that nice warm cookie I've eaten a few times before. I was so excited to get these. They tasted good, duh it's a cookie...but they were very hard. Just not what I was anticipating. Apparently they don't send people to drive forward when their order takes too long. I received my order but it was disappointing. The pork was quite dry and the french fries were cold. We found this gem of a BBQ place while traveling. Can't remember having better BBQ anywhere! Smoked chicken wings actually had a smoky flavor (a lot of places don't). Juicy and meaty wings with plenty of sauce. The fried green tomatoes were flavorful, light and had a crispy batter that wasn't too thick. The baby back ribs were meaty, tender and full of flavor. My husband said the potato salad was OK but the baked beans were great. The menu has plenty to choose from and prices are very good. I can't believe the squash casserole isn't listed among Popular Menu Items yet. My family introduced me to this Full Moon after our reunion last year, and the squash casserole caught my eye on the menu board. Once I tasted it, there was no turning back!!! None of my family had tried it before, but once they tasted mine, we became the greediest cheerleaders of squash casserole that you'd ever want to meet! This is the BEST of the south. Squash casserole is one of those heartwarming, bubbling mixtures of hospitality that paired well with summer dinner in our house when we were kids. I normally travel for work between home in Atlanta and my Memphis work site once or twice a month, and it has become the norm to make the detour on my way to I-22 to meet my sister for a squash fix most Sundays. Full Moon's service has also pushed this experience over the top. Once when I stopped in, they had sold out. **GASP**!! I explained that I really like the rest of their menu, but 2+ servings of squash casserole is what has me driving the extra miles, and I was willing to scrape the baking dish just to have it. The guy who was taking my order actually called back to the kitchen and mentioned this. Would you believe they actually brought me a takeout serving of the golden brown edges from that last pan??!!!!
