    Garlic mushrooms

I am in Italy for a wedding as well as a little R/D for my Italian restaurant in Kansas City. The wedding party left for Rome and I stayed on for a few more days in Capri. This is my 4th trip to Italy and the first to Sicily and Amalfi coast. I was finding the food pretty disappointing this time around. Too much seafood for my liking and we were stopping in restaurants that were convenient or had a view. I stopped in Tarantino's only because it was the same name as the bride in my party! What a happy accident. By far the best meal i have had so far. Although their menu is heavy on the same seafood varieties, I found a simple gnocchi dish and some garlic mushrooms. My restaurant does not serve gnocchi nor have i experienced this kind of heaven anywhere in the US. The gnocchi themselves were like little pillows of potatoes reminiscent of my Dad's home grown new potatoes. The sauce and cheeses on top were perfection and the side of garlic mushrooms were to die for! I wanted to lick both plates. The wine list was perfect for the simple reason that they offered split bottles. I was able to choose from a much wider variety than the two or three by the glass options most offer. I had a delicious Grillo that i had been craving since last week in Sicily. I have 3 more meals before wheels up and I'm debating having the same at least once. My only complaint is that they don't have a t-shirt with their logo to take to my friends. I tried to buy one of their server aprons but no luck.

Great experience, hidden gem, the pizzas are great (try the salami), and definitely ask for Tino, he's the best!

In Capri, one simply has the Caprise salad. It was the perfect light lunch to celebrate my visit to this island. My waiter was friendly and I left revived from a 95°F day.

We even saw him take a bite of the communal Parmesan cheese with the spoon from the dish (and the mother returned it to the bowl) which prompted us to not use the Parmesan. The pizzas were hot and fresh, we ordered the Davola and salsiccia e friarielii. Both were delicious but in the end, we love a tomato based pizza the best and should not have wavered. A glass of house wine was surprisingly reasonable at just 5 euro and was a standardly nice, juicy, easy to drink red. The bread was incredibly delicious. The smokiness from the wood oven made it possibly the most delicious bread I can remember eating. No butter. No olive oil. Just delicious. We would have loved to have tried a few of the pasta dishes that looked delicious, so our recommendation for a couple is to get a pizza and a pasta and share them. The salads also looked fresh and large. As many places in Italy, there a fee to sit at the restaurant and be served. 8 euro for both of us. The next day when waiting for our ferry ride, we popped into a pizzeria and grabbed another pizza diavola to go...what a let down. The pizza at buca di bacco was within a euro or two in price and 100% better. If you haven't had a good pizza in Italy and find yourself in Capri, at least grab one or two of their pizzas to go and eat them near the ocean overlook. Don't forget the chili flakes You will be quite content.

Nestled on the side of a cliff in Capri, is this lovely place. It took our group of 8 on quite the trek down the side of said cliff in the hot Capri sun. Well it was worth the hike because the view was spectacular and the food was phenomenal. We basically ordered the entire menu but the standouts for me were the scallops, the fresh raw oysters and the seafood risotto. Of course the seafood tastes like they got it right out of the ocean. The service was also beyond amazing. Whatever we asked for, it was there with minutes and the table was quickly cleared of empty dishes and my wine was replenished a satisfying amount of times. I'm sad we couldn't experience the beach club but the view helped with the FOMO...btw the hike back up the cliff was intense. I'm grateful I'm in somewhat decent shape. An alternative to the uphill hike is a water taxi from the restaurant which requires advanced booking.

No one at beach club asked if they could get you anything so you have to walk up and ask, chairs didn't recline. I wouldn't go back, lots of other beach clubs to check out in Capri.
