To begin we got escorted downstairs to a table that was right next to another couple sharing the same middle table for our wine bottles, olive oil, balsamic. Not your typical close like every other restaurant. The service was not attentive at all. Waiter only came to our table when they absolutely had to. Empty plates left on the table for a long time. Sauce was very sour and no flavor at all. I do not recommend this place. Don't get excited about the name, because there are plenty of other restaurants in Capri worth eating at. Amazing space and wonderful atmosphere! Grazie to our server Sonia who made a fun evening and managed our meal from beginning to end. The space is very casual yet filled with the glamorous clientele of Capri. We had a simple meal of cáprese and octopus salads and then a spaghetti with clams and filet of sole all washed down with plenty of wine! Wonderful, historic, family-run restaurant. We came here our first night in Capri, and it was absolutely perfect. Beautiful ambiance, lovely service, and all the food was incredibly fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. To start, they brought us out a little flower pot full of fresh vegetables which was delightful. We had a tomato buffalo mozzarella salad to start which was amazing. My daughter had one of their specialties, the caprese ravioli, which were out of this world, and we shared a spaghetti al nerano with fried zucchini, which we have been wanting to try since we saw Stanley Tucci order it on his Searching for Italy travel show. It was everything we hoped for -- incredibly creamy, flavorful and delicious. Absolutely recommend. By the way, I read the review about the staff singing and dancing, bu that didn't happen when we were there. They said that's just for special occasions, which makes sense. Despite lack of any water views, La Capannina serves up an enticing atmosphere with food and service to match. The only stars I spotted here were on the plates and in the bottle of wine on my table. Arrive here ready to enjoy yourself and you won't be disappointed. Though La Capannina displays some of the star photos on the wall outside their restaurant, many more can be found inside the restaurant itself. Look around, or head down to the restrooms to see the full display. I've only noted the names of those I recognized. But whatever you do, don't waste your time on those photos at the expense of the food itself. Whether you're on Capri for a day or a week, making time for a meal here is carving out a slice of time for enjoyment. We were here last year and truly enjoyed it, so we came again to experience it, and it did not disappoint our high expectations. We wanted to have a nice meal while in Capri, as we were celebrating my partner's birthday that weekend. After reading reviews that mentioned gluten free options, we settled on this place. We arrived just after they opened for dinner, around 7:30pm. We were the only ones in the restaurant for quite some time - is that still early for dinner? It was Easter Sunday, so maybe it was a strange night. Anyway, we were seated in the front near the window and given menus. I asked about gluten free, and they said they had a couple types of pasta they could use as well as gluten free bread. They brought the GF bread for me (sliced package bread, still nice to have it) and a regular bread basket for my partner as we put in our order. I went for a Caprese salad as a starter, and a gluten free pasta in a mushroom cream sauce for my main. My partner ordered the fried zucchini blossom starter and the same pasta sauce, the "glutinous' version served over freshly made pasta. The food was all good; my salad was the best Caprese I had the whole trip (and I had like five of them over three days.) The pasta was nice, though I would have liked a bit more sauce over it. My partner enjoyed his starter and said the pasta was fine. We also had the house red wine, which was reasonably priced and actually really enjoyable. The best part of the experience, though, was the service - everyone we interacted with in the restaurant was friendly and attentive. They went the extra mile in assuring my gluten free diet was catered for, which was really reassuring. I mentioned my partner's birthday as we paid the bill and they brought him a little plate with a couple tiny cookies and meringues, which was very kind. They do charge a pretty big service charge (10% I think) and cover charge, so it's good to know that going in. We had two starters, two pastas, shared a carafe of the house wine and my partner had an espresso at the end, and all totaled our bill was about 70€. We stuck to the less expensive side of the menu by not ordering meat/fish, so you could easily spend a lot for a single meal if you really went all out. Still, it was probably the nicest meal experience we had on our trip, and that's worth a lot. read more

Portions were small, I ordered soup because it was cold and rainy, i was expecting a bowl and got a tiny cup. For 16 euro, I expected more. Very delicious food in the heart of Capri tucked away along a walkway, if you have trouble locating the restaurant: just look for the celebrity photos displayed by the entrance of the restaurant. That's when you know: you've arrived at La Capannina. I stopped by in June 2019 for a quick early dinner sans reservation and had no problems getting a seat. This is a popular spot for couples and it will fill up as the night progresses. I prefer sitting by the window but sitting inside is nice as well! You can't go wrong with any of the pasta dishes, my favorite was the seafood pasta and be sure to ask for the catch of the day. Disappointing food. Tired decor. Pleasant serving staff and a hands-on owner who greets you warmly on arrival, but that's not enough. The worst risotto I've had in Italy, more of a pilaff than a risotto - dry and pointless. Uninspiring main courses. Even the contorni/vegetables were poorly cooked. To add insult to injury they added a hefty service charge on the bill at the end in a very un Italian way. We arrived late to Capri and walked by this restaurant and were so hungry so we just took a seat. We were skeptical about whether it was going to be a tourist trap as it has a ton of celebrity photos but we had an amazing experience. The food was very typical Capri style Italian food. Everything was delicious. We had Caprese salad, zucchini flower pasta, fish from the specials menu (which is extensive), the duo tiramisu (pistachio and Amaretto ). The waitress and manager (?) from Maldova was so sweet and patient. We had a lot of questions and asked for many recommendations in regards to wine and after dinner drinks. They let us try everything. Good wine in Italy can be fairly inexpensive to the mark ups imnised to in NYC. We had such a great dinner experience that we went back the next night after dinner to have drinks in their wine bar on the side street next door which is open late to 2 am and we were again greeted by attentive staff (the same manager guy was there to help us with amaro selections. ). The figs and prosciutto MELT in your mouth. SO so so so good. After this appetizer, my dinner was not amazing. I had a pasta dish with a tomato sauce, whose proceeds were to benefit one of the towns affected by the 2016 earthquakes in Central Italy. I felt good about ordering it. In fact, the owner explained to me the dish reminded him of his father, who was from one of the towns affected. The pasta dish turned out to be pretty boring. I felt like I could have made it myself. After dinner, we walked down the alley next to La Capannina to get to a wine bar (owned by the same people), and I could see the boxes of Barilla pasta through the windows to the kitchen from outside. I could have made it myself! If you want pasta, be sure to ask what is made in house. Hopefully you'll have a less disappointing pasta dish than I had. The service was great. This was one of our favorite restaurants while visiting Capri. It was quaint and romantic, and very accommodating to specific dietary needs. I'm vegan and was having a difficult time find anything but pasta and bread on my trip to Italy (admittedly delicious pasta and bread). I was very excited when we arrived to La Capannina and I was able to order a hearty, flavorful lentil soup.
