Who would let a new chicken do the hiring? An experienced chicken, sure. But a new chicken?

hush puppies and a piece of fish
Kelly S.

I grew up loving this place, kids meal with fish n chips (fries) and those hush puppies! So when I was traveling by and saw this place I just had to stop by. Small dining area with booths and tables, very clean through out. Staff was very friendly, I was greeted as soon as I entered. I ordered hush puppies and a drink to go (wasn't really hungry) The young man that took my order offered me a piece of fish... after I told him I wasn't that hungry he said its on the house....sure i'll try it. Hush puppies were just as I remembered them crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside...back to my childhood! The fish was ok, ends were better. Very greasy (of course) Like that you can fill your own soda and you get free refills. I don't think I would ever go out of my way for this, but if I'm driving by I would grab some hush puppies!

It was nice that everything was cooked fresh, instead of coming from a warmer. It's hard to find stand alone stores anymore.

It's been a long time but the hush puppies, fish, and coleslaw were great.

They had immediate seating, and we were hungry, so we stopped. The server was attentive and had a great attitude. The place was noisy, especially sitting next to a family with three small children. It didn't bother me, but some around us were bothered. They had a salad bar with hot food items, salad, and desserts. Hubby was considering it, but he said the hot food looked old and dried out, so he decided to order from the menu. I had the steak (medium-well) and shrimp with onion rings and a Caesar salad with dressing on the side. Hubby had a stuffed steak with a sweet potato and salad bar, and his boss had a filet mignon with a baked potato and salad bar. Hubby decided to try the ham pot pie soup. I was excited to try this too, but when he brought it, it wasn't what I expected. I expected to see a creamy base (like a pot pie). It wasn't. His stuffed steak wasn't stuffed. It was a sirloin (I think) on top of stuffing with brown gravy over the steak. The sweet potato was good. My steak was very well done, no medium at all. The onion ring portion was generous, and the shrimp were delicious. Even though the steak was well-cooked, it was still moist. I usually order med-well so I can heat it later and still have it moist. The boss commented that he needed to go to the kitchen and teach someone how to cook a steak. He did enjoy the sweet tea. Just like Texas sweet tea, he said. They both had dessert from the salad bar and commented that it was okay. There were other things on the menu I wanted to try. If I am in the area again, I will be back.
