After church today we drove down to Bob Evans for lunch. I am usually pleased with what I order but not today. I decided to try something new. It was the SW bowl with chicken, potatoes, broccolI, black beans &corn, topped with some guacomole. I was very disappointed. I think instead of potatoes it might of tasted better with rice. This place has decent food. It is advertised as home cooked meals. It is good. The rolls were very good and the food was good. They have a nice sized dining room and a nice atmosphere. I got the honey chicken with mashed potatoes and corn. The chicken was ok, it was kind of dry and didn't have a big honey taste. The mashed potatoes were instant. They have an expansive parking lot. While traveling recently to a campground in the area we were in need of a family friendly lunch spot. Not only did it need to have a kids menu but also an easy in/out and parking to accommodate our truck and 28' travel trailer. While we prefer to check out local favorites instead of a chain when in a new to us area the parking made that a bit of a challenge. We finally found Bob Evans, complete with an empty hotel parking lot next door that fit the bill. Inside we were seated promptly. Hubby preferred breakfast, my granddaughter and I lunch so I was happy that we could all get what we craved. The kids menu was better than most with options to switch out fries for healthier sides which I appreciated. It also included a drink. I chose a half sandwich and cup of soup for around $6. Not expecting real, hand craved turkey (thought it would be made with lunch-meat) I was pleasantly surprised. The sandwich was a turkey bacon melt and it was the bomb! The sourdough was nicely toasted, the turkey moist and the bacon high quality. The loaded potato soup - a little thick and cheesy than I prefer - did have nice flavor and between the two I was satisfied. Hubby's hungry man breakfast had a little of everything. His only disappointment was the sausage patty which was overcooked to a black hockey puck. The kids meal was a good size (enough for our picky eater to have two meals) and the steamed broccoli side was fresh and not over or under-cooked. Our waitress was spot on serving our needs and checking back frequently. With both of us under the weather slightly she was happy to bring us hot tea with lemon and lots of honey. Overall the restaurant was clean and decorated nicely with the exception of the dated lobby, strange entrance layout and bathroom long overdue for a redo. 4 stars because of hubby's sausage, the areas that need updated, and the VERY cluttered check out register - with so many gift shop items for sale taking up real estate by the credit card machine I was knocking stuff over left and right just trying to pay. read more

I love Bob Evans, I've been going since I was a kid! However it's been a while since I've been to one! The food was delicious then again it's pretty hard to mess up pancakes! My entire family ate all their food with no complaints we all left with full bellies! The service was great! read more

Have never been disappointed by a Bob Evans in the US, until today. Service was exceedingly slow, one of my party's meals was inaccurately made, hash browns so salty they couldn't be consumed. The server spilled coffee on the table, we cleaned it up after she left, not even thinking to attempt to clean it up herself. The biggest issue was the wait. It took so long that one of our party asked the cashier where the order was. Lastly, our coffee wasn't asked to be refreshed until we were about to leave. Even still, the server was a sweetheart and did the best she knew how and the countless other excellent Bob Evans we've gone to wouldn't deter us from going again. Strawberry crepes were featured on the menu, but they don't really have strawberry topping, only blueberry. Ok... but then the "crepe" was half an inch thick, folded over instead of rolled, and chewy. Sausage patties were blackened on the grill and had brown grease dripping off it. We have wanted to go to a Bob Evans for years and never quite made it - more to do with poor Yelp reviews based on location/timing. This year we decided to go this establishment and were very pleased with the offerings. The menu is quite exhaustive - and offers full day breakfast items - even after going through the menu at home, it took a while to figure out from the maze of selections and "what do I feel like after driving all day?". I had a chicken fried steak (CFS) with mashed pot & gravy and their mac 'n cheese, wife had a BBQ chicken with mashed and coleslaw, son had the french toast brioche (no strawberries) with a side of mash pot and gravy. We also had the $4 onion petals appetizer. We were offered bread - and lost track of the selection and had to have it repeated several times. I had the buttermilk biscuit (it was okay - perhaps a tad too salty). Wife had strawberry bread - that was real good. The mashed potatoes and gravy - to me this forms one of two (the other are ribs) make or breaks with a meal and they didn't disappoint. They offered three - beef, chicken, or peppercorn (think that is used on the chicken fried steak) and we chose the chicken gravy. Very good as well as the mashed potatoes. The coleslaw was spot on too and had carrot in there too. Great flavor. The Mac 'n cheese is supposedly their own recipe (or something special) and for me was meh - okay - nothing to write home about. The chicken was very good - they had a side sauce though that had a bit of a fake taste to it - but it wasn't required. My CFS was done PERFECTLY and tasted very good - a great "Welcome to America" dinner. My son's french toast was very good too. For drinks - I passed on the free refill cappuccinos (what was I thinking?) - wife was able to get hot tea and honey. The other two of us just had water. Wait staff was good and pleasant as well as the other customers who spoke to us. The bathroom was clean. Overall an excellent experience - the food was delish, hot, and fresh. Prices very reasonable. Slightly OT: Menu on the one hand is rather large - but so long as they are competent on the items this isn't a necessarily bad thing. It definitely caters to anyone's whims - for whatever mood they are in - and that is a huge bonus. While on vacation in NC, my wife doesn't want a hamburger - and many (besides the huge chains) either don't offer any chicken items and/or the offerings are poor - which means it won't be a place we will go to. With a place back home (Pickle Barrel) they chose to reduce the menu and as a result removed items that we liked. Food was terrible. The dinner rolls were blah and tasted like yeast. Corporate needs to dine at their restaurants and figure out where the wonderful flavors have gone. Traditionally you could get good breakfast any time of day but even the sausage gravy lacked any flavor. . Our waitress was sweet and very attentive. I hope she finds a better place to work. Foods always good! This last time I had the lunch combo half sandwich and soup. I had the roast beef which was very tasty but very greasy. And I had the favorite chicken noodle which was very good as well. Perfect portion for me. And price matched the meal! Which is very rare for places around here. read more

We went to the one in Shamokin Dam for breakfast, Well my eggs were under cooked, my home fries were burnt on 1 side and raw in the middle, my onions were 1/2 raw after asking for well cooked, Also had pancakes, the 1st time they were black on the bottoms but they served them to me, I sent them back and they brought new order, this time they were under cooked, Batter in the centers mushy. What a disasterous breakfast, and a $30.00 tab to boot.. Shame Shame Shame.. Server not at all friendly as should be, especially when you complain..... read more

Came here tonight and was highly disappointed. Close to no one in the restaurant yet waited 10 minutes for someone to notice us waiting to be seated. Our waiter seemed uneducated on the menu when we asked questions. I ordered a salmon after he gave me a description on how big the serving was. I ordered it with tartar sauce, and a side of mac and cheese. Once our food came out, the salmon was not the size he described to me. I could've fit it into a side dish, and he told me they were out of tartar sauce and walked away. I ate the mac and cheese but didn't even bother touching the fish. 20 minutes later he came back and asked if everything was okay and I told him that I wasn't able to eat dry fish. He mumbled and went to the kitchen and grabbed me tarter sauce, after he said they were out. By that point, my fish was cold and I was frustrated beyond belief. Never returning. read more
