(They've partnered with a local shop I was told). *Very sweet waitress. *I had the freshest salad ever as my side with homemade dressing I believe. *My husband said his wings were awesome. Fresh oil, fresh wings and not breaded the way he likes. The not so good: *Weirdly, my husband's wings came out after our entree. Glad our waitress didn't let the meal sit, but I've never had that happen unless I was in an ethnic restaurant where they don't really understand the appetizer concept. Husband didn't care - he'll take his wings for breakfast, but that's a basic error in a kitchen where there's very few people in the restaurant. * We both ordered RibEye steaks, which were the special for the day. We upgraded to the tune of 7.00 plus each because we didn't want fries. That's fine BUT - we are 99% sure we were served strip steaks instead. The steaks were fine, a nice size - we think they might have been frozen, but not a deal killer at all. We ate without complaint. But they were not Rib-eye. Funny we each didn't say anything to each other until we were in the car in the way home. We haven't been out in months and didn't want to "spoil" our "out day" by whining about a steak. * No masks to be seen despite Pennsylvania Governor ordering them inside and outside. We are coming from the epicenter, and though this Pennsylvania county has a low rate- it made us uncomfortable. I like the place- I would eat there again- but they have a little fine tuning to do to be spectacular.

Great decor!

This is not going to be an easy review to write. I have so many conflicting thoughts and…read morefeelings... reviewing a restaurant should never be this dramatic! Seriously though... speaking as someone who was a partner in two restaurants in NYC for 4 years, who does not claim to "know it all" but knows some tricks of the trade... I think they've got great potential and would like to share my thoughts with them. Saying they've "got potential" probably come across as smug, obnoxious, and ridiculous, especially because they've got like 4.6 stars here on Yelp! And that's mainly why I found myself here... Staying in Mansfield for the night, I looked up restaurants that were enroute to our hotel. Some of them had 3 or 3.5 stars and I said "no way." But 4.6 stars with as many reviews as The Farmer's Table has? Absolutely! The atmosphere is a little bit diner but cozy enough and has the farm as a theme. There are some cool design elements, like the steel ceiling, the tables... The bathroom was clean and well stocked, and that's a really good sign that the place is sanitary and organized. The waitress was really, really nice... and we loved that we were in this tiny little town and yet she had this really cool, funky image. Great fingernails! I'm jealous! A tip for her to make service even better... think about sequence of service. Think about the extras that the customer will want with the specific thing they ordered so that they won't have to bother you. If they order something with fries, definitely put ketchup on their table, and do it before the food is delivered. There were also a lot of empty tables with salt shakers, but it's had none. Some customers notice these little things and appreciate a server who anticipates their needs. On the other hand, maybe she was just really slammed busy before we got there. My wife and I waited like 2 minutes for her to take my order and she apologized profusely for having us wait so long for her. I was like, "am I in Manhattan or wut???" She was on point, generally easy to find when we needed her, she was never trying to hide from customers (a huge no-no) and very well-intentioned. Definitely a keeper. The food though... I was surprised we didn't like it very much being the reviews were so good. When I got the check to pay, I asked the server what their most beloved and popular dishes are. She said that ppl order a lot of the prime rib sandwich, and also the cat fish. Incidentally, I had ordered the prime rib sandwich, and my wife had the breaded cat fish. I was expecting a lot more meat on my sandwich, and the bun was just a regular burger bun, but it was ok. It came with 3 slices of pickle and cost $11.90. I was still hungry after that so I finished my wife's catfish 'cuz she gets full easily. I liked the catfish more, but neither of us thought it was anything special. What was special were the prices. The catfish included 2 sides, and it cost less than $14. Being from NYC, it was so refreshing to see pricing that reminded me of year 2000! A burger for $7.85 that's not Burger King? Incredible! But the cole slaw... ewww. I didn't hate it, but I kind of forced myself to eat it even though it had a strange flavor. The sweet potato fries were ok. Everything was basically O.K. I imagine that, if I lived there, I would go pretty regularly cuz it's probably the best thing the neighborhood has in a few square miles, and it's easier and more fun than cooking at home (if you're not a cook and you're busy at work). But I think that some improvement in the food could make the place more of a destination. And a destination could actually bring more business to the surrounding businesses! I can understand if the townspeople want very basic food there, but at least offer a few specials that are fancier, better ingredients, something that stands out and is memorable. I know I'm spoiled coming from NYC... a 4.6 star review in places like Manhattan are different than a 4.6 star review in a small town. But this place has some nice things about it. Take it all the way!

The only similarity to a diner is they serve breakfast all day. The restaurant is new construction and gorgeous inside. The food is so good I cant pick from the things I have tried. The food is home made, they actually roast chickens for the chicken and waffles and I was told they roast the beef for 14 hours for their open face beef sandwich. I can tell you it is amazing. They now have a ham bbq on the menu people are saying its the best they ever had. I have not had a chance to try it yet but im confident it will be very good. The waitress said the owner will not allow any short cuts in the cooking process and it shows. I would highly recommend making a trip. Did I mention the great waitresses? read more

Stopped on the way home from Penn State and had dinner. My husband was very impressed with his steak. He said better than most steak houses. He also got homemade mashed potatoes with the greatest brown gravy he said ever. I had the fish sandwich which was delivered to our table and my husband and I laughed. It was huge and delicious although I could only eat half. We will definitely be back. There are so many choices on the menu of homemade cooked food you could eat something different everyday for a month! We looked around and saw they have a beautiful covered patio out back, cant wait to try that this spring. read more

Response from a Regular Customer:…read more If you want an honest opinion, ask a regular who's mug or coffee cup hangs on the wall above the toaster. Since mine is there, I feel qualified to offer an opinion because it means I eat there frequently and consume all the menu has to offer not just one offering. No less than five different cooks have prepared my food and I have never sent back a plate, cup, bowl, or basket. I've been eating at this restaurant for a couple years and let me tell you William S's review says more about Willie than it does about the place. First off, the staff here work hard, and most of us locals appreciate that. Complaining about wait times and drinks like coffee and chocolate milk taking "too long" just sounds petty. Cold eggs and missing toast? That happens sometimes in any busy diner. Most people just ask politely and get it fixed. The owner pays the light bill and the wait staff will heat up anything you ask them to. As for the owner being "defensive," maybe she was just tired of being talked down to. There's a difference between giving feedback and acting like you're the food critic of a small-town breakfast joint. What Willie completely ignores is that the wait staff and owner are very community oriented. They often look after the old timers who come in daily, and they've even been known to feed the homeless when they can. During the Fireman's carnival they remove desserts off their menu and let the cake wheel have the business. They currently are making Christmas happen for several less fortunate children through their Wish List project. That kind of generosity matters more than nitpicking over toast. And honestly, given the level of crying Willie has done in his review, he might be better off sitting in a baby chair (THRONE) instead of the freshly re‑upholstered booths the rest of us are now enjoying. Let's be real: Willie writes like he's the self‑appointed "food critic of Lewisburg," still sore that the Country Cupboard closed and bitter that he can no longer critique the bonnet‑wearing waitresses there. Now he's taking out that frustration on the only diner left standing. Willie's review should be deleted because it mischaracterizes the attributes of the waitstaff, the food, and even the utensils found in this fine eatery. 1000's of people have eaten here. As for this regular, I'll be back in the morning -- despite Willie's small‑minded attempt to hurt the reputation of the Old Farmer's Table. It gets Five Stars from me only because I can't give it six.
