The fish is fresh, cleaned, hand breaded, and fried on site. They have used the same type of frying oil, same recipes for the cole slaw, and same vendor to supply their fries FOREVER because the regulars would REVOLT if they changes it up. We went on a Friday around 3 pm. Plenty of ample seating and parking. BUT as we left- it was definitely getting busier. They seem to do a really good takeout business as well. This fish fry is year round! Restaurant and bathrooms are clean. All the staff we interacted with were super friendly and very hospitable. Hubby and I split a 3 piece cod meal and added a piece of walleye. We also subbed out the fries for a baked potato. Our meal came with a small container of cole slaw AND two pieces of white bread. I miss white bread. Would definitely come again.

We were welcomed and seated immediately by a very kind host and greeted by our server promptly as well. Coffee was fresh and food came out pretty quickly. Delicious and exactly what we wanted (amazing salad and sandwich). Our server was awesome and kept up with refilling the coffee - which we appreciated. Sat there for over 5 minutes without anyone saying anything to me before I finally just walked out. They might try to claim that maybe they didn't see me because the bar area is slightly enclosed. This is false because a couple of times a waitress walked into that area to pour a drink for someone else, right in front of me. They saw me there, no drink or menu, and just kept going.

Libations were offered at the bar at a reasonable cost. A band was scheduled to play at 7 pm, but I had to leave and didn't get to hear them. I'm sure they did a good job. Out of curiosity, I did a little research about this particular post and its namesake. I learned that the Harry E. Anderson Post 9545 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States was established on July 19, 1947. Corporal Anderson was the first soldier in Will County Illinois to die during World War II. He was killed in Guam on December 7, 1941. On September 12, 1995, the post was completely destroyed by fire. However, plans to rebuild the it began almost immediately while trailers served as the temporary post. On November 19, 1996, the new building was completed and formally dedicated on January 11, 1997. VFW Post 9545 is one amongst approximately 9,000 posts worldwide. Its mission is to "honor the dead by helping the living" through veterans' services, community services, national security, and a strong national defense.
