I joined my husband's family in celebration of his birthday. We had a late lunch at a local restaurant and convened here to continue the celebration. I have never been to a VFW, but found this location to be a fun and relaxing venue. I met a few veterans and their families who brought food for all to enjoy. Libations were offered at the bar at a reasonable cost. A band was scheduled to play at 7 pm, but I had to leave and didn't get to hear them. I'm sure they did a good job. Out of curiosity, I did a little research about this particular post and its namesake. I learned that the Harry E. Anderson Post 9545 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States was established on July 19, 1947. Corporal Anderson was the first soldier in Will County Illinois to die during World War II. He was killed in Guam on December 7, 1941. On September 12, 1995, the post was completely destroyed by fire. However, plans to rebuild the it began almost immediately while trailers served as the temporary post. On November 19, 1996, the new building was completed and formally dedicated on January 11, 1997. VFW Post 9545 is one amongst approximately 9,000 posts worldwide. Its mission is to "honor the dead by helping the living" through veterans' services, community services, national security, and a strong national defense. The Friday fish fry is very good, scallops were excellent. Nice to be able to support a good cause. My barber Phil suggested the VFW and he was spot on. Forgot to compliment the workers. The teenagers helping were great to see, whether they solely volunteer, community hours whatever in today's environment of freebies they were hustling. read more

Bingo is a lot of fun. Everyone is very nice. The grill Cheese sandwiches are amazing.

Good service and good people. It was the my first time here and the bartender was lovely. The customers seated nearby were very friendly. Good prices. I've been to other VFW halls and this one is done really well. read more

Cantina is amazing, touch tins is on point and the beers are cheep as can be!!!! Great people great drinks and great times!!!

Love to support our vets? Love a good fish fry? You really have to give all the volunteers that come together each week 3 cheers. Be sure to get a piece of pie from the 93 yr old lady who sells them, along with a cup of complimentary coffee. The fish is great. They have a combo platter with shrimp, scallops and fish, they have fried chicken too. There's a bar in back and tonight they had karaoke. Community seating, so bring a group. read more

I got a recommendation from someone on Facebook about using this venue for our upcoming wedding celebration. Linda was super responsive to our questions needs and wants. Their fish fry is really good. The fish is made to order, so it's nice and fresh. Thin cut fries, a bread roll, and coleslaw come with the dinners. You can also order chicken if fish is not your thing. They have a bar which has beer on tap. Samuel Adams is one of the selections. It's not one of your ordinary fish frys. This place does get packed so you share tables with other people. Mainly an older crowd, and most are friendly. Best of all, you donate toward our Veterans. God bless, and come home safe. read more

Had the Friday fish fry dinner. Did not disappoint. I seen it on Chicago's Best and was definitely worth it.

I firmly believe that when you review a business, in this case a restaurant, you have to compare it to SIMILIAR businesses/restaurants. With this in mind, I believe that the New Lenox VFW fish fry is one of the best that I have had. I recently tried the K of C on route 30 and wasn't nearly as impressed by the quality of the food. The fried shrimp were plump and tasty. A The fried fish wasn't over fried and it was plentiful. B Tons of fries! For Catholics out there that do the Friday night fish fry for lent this is a very acceptable option! read more

Nice banquet facility but the bar.... sad. 2nd family party rushed out. Today worst than the last. Party ended in the banquet room at 11:30 bartender didn't want any part of staying open for the overflow. Management left so she said bar is closed at 11:30 - your loss again! read more

i like the bar and the fish fry. but i will say the cod is absolutely gross. the chicken, shrimp and scallops are decent. i like the atmosphere and i will keep coming.back as i live close. i'm just shocked at the reviews and all the write ups on the cod fish fry. the cod is terrible! like chewing rubber. read more
