Almost all the markets in the Asheville area only carry frozen/defrosted seafood. I was born in a little fishing village in New England, three houses from the docks, and am used to buying fish directly from the boat, so frozen just wasn't getting me what I craved. Locals Seafood has its own trucks to bring in fish fresh from the boats on the North Carolina coast. This might lead to slightly higher costs than at the megamarts, but premium quality is always worth at least that, if not more. Over the last month I have tried their Tile Fish, Swordfish, Snapper and Black Drum, and every meal was wonderful, the fish was pristine fresh, firm and flaky. The staff is great, very friendly and attentive, and always willing to share cooking tips and tricks. the store is squeaky clean, all the fresh fish resting on ice, which they pack with your fish to keep it cold on the way home. We went with the club sandwich with fries and the lasagna with a Caesar salad. Both were delicious. Portions are very good. Neither of us could finish the meals! The waitress was great and the ambiance is very nice. My only negative would be the prices. Some are fine, but most are a bit high. Even the sides. But, it was worth it!

Though we came at lunch time, we were provided with the dinner menu (so I guess it's all-day dinner on weekends). I ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes as a starter, which is served with feta cheese and a balsamic reduction. The tomatoes were thickly cut and ate a bit clunky. Because of their size, I think there was some steaming action going on, as the tomatoes were soggy on the inside. I always enjoy a balsamic reduction, and liked the flavor on the dish overall. They were heavy-handed with the feta. This was the first time that I had fried green tomatoes served with feta - I'm used to a fresher topping such as a corn salsa. Regardless, the batter on the fried green tomatoes was delicious - I have high confidence that any of their battered dishes would be equally satisfying! I opted to order the bruschetta flatbread as my entree. It was loaded with toppings - tomatoes, spinach, goat cheese, grilled chicken, and more of that tasty balsamic reduction. It's typically served as a starter, so this is another dish that's great for sharing. My sister ordered the homemade southwestern chicken soup. This is definitely a southern-style soup - think cream-based... almost dip/queso-like. It was also served with tortilla chips as a garnish. She also ordered a side of the rice pilaf which was a generous serving size for a side - we thought it would be a small bowl size, but it was a whole plateful. However, it was way too salty. One of their signatures is their Gyro Pita Sandwich, which comes with a side of fries. We were able to swap the plain French fries for their sweet potato fries, which are always a hit. The menu describes this dish as the real deal and hey- no complaints! The gyro was tender and flavorful and comes with tzatziki. This is a solid dish. Service was friendly but not super present. We would have to flag our waitress down for drink refills and weren't really checked on once the food came out. It's a pretty casual but also busy place, so I'm not expecting to be waited on hand and foot, but they could bump up the attentiveness a hair. Food and ambiance were good overall... nothing amazing, but it's a safe bet. Stone Ridge Tavern has a good variety of dishes offered on the menu. I recommend this place for large groups - there's something for everyone - and I was pleased with portion sizes.

We walked in without a reservation, sat down, and had the kind of long, unhurried dinner that feels increasingly rare. Nobody rushed us. They let us share plates without hesitation. The menu is billed as New American, and that's the right phrase for it -- genuinely eclectic, pulling from Spanish, French bistro, and Southern influences without committing to any one of them. The pork chop was excellent. The grilled carrots were genuinely memorable. The green salad was simple and well done. Our waiter recommended a wine that we were pleased with, and even offered a tasting. The wine list is deep for a room this size, and the cocktail list looks the same. Music was at that sweet-spot volume where you can hear your conversation partner and still hear the song. You could bring your parents, or come on a date, it works either way. Some farm-to-table places feel pretentious; this one doesn't. They don't make you feel dumb for not knowing every local distributor. One small gripe: a 3% "kitchen staff fee" printed on the back of the menu. I'm all for paying the kitchen, but I'd rather see it built into the prices up front. 4.7 Stars. What would push it to a solid five stars: drop the hidden fee and bake it into the menu prices. That's genuinely the only thing standing between this and a perfect night out.

Local ingredients and really good food. A nutty amuse bouche to start the night. Beets and pickled apples were interesting in a good way. Cheddar onion rye sourdough was adequately sour and warm, on the dense side. Trout was super moist and the mustard sauce complimented it very well. One of the better fish dishes I've had in NC. Also tried some of the pork chop (very tender & great sauce) and mushroom risotto (herby and great flavors on the mushrooms).

The only and main requirement is that it definitely had Gluten Free (GF) options. I personally have other health issues, but Gluten, lactose or vegan isn't on my radar. So, I myself had to ask for suggestions. The name Juanchos Fonda was highly recommended and designated GF Colombian restaurant. I had heard for several years that this little "hole in the wall/strip mall restaurant" was a hidden gem. Looking at the menu on Google/Facebook just didn't appeal to me UNTIL now. Juanchos Fonda is located at 2619 Sweeten Creek Road #10, Asheville. Several of the party made comments to the effect do you know how many times I have driven by and never knew that there was a restaurant inside or I have seen the sign, but never considered trying it. I arrived quite early to introduce myself, and confirmed that a large group was coming. Jayson introduced himself and a little birdie had already spoken with him the night before. He and his staff were preparing our tables so Ellie and I took a quick stroll down the walkway to visit Retro Coffee Shop and owner Carrie. Retro Coffee has a variety of options for coffees, teas and desserts/pastries The pastries are by @Jaz Bakes. Carrie continues to help those that might need a little something to tide them over, her very small food pantry is available. Carrie always welcomes any contributions for the pantry. I love their Chai Tea and The Mafia coffee named by the Asheville Food Mafia as our favorite flavor of five other options. We returned to Juanchos and the table was in the final finishing touches. Within minutes the entire 16 were making conversation, welcoming hugs and meeting new friends. The owner Jayson introduced himself, his restaurant's concept, the menu, his special of the day, and large party gratuity. Our server, Cesar, was taking cocktail orders and Jayson informed the table of the special in-house Sangria. Several people enjoyed the pitcher of Sangria (hopefully someone can add that photo). The restaurant has a full bar for a wide variety of cocktails. Several people order different cocktails; Bloody Mary, Mojito, Mango Madness and a few others that I didn't hear those names. I was having a difficult time trying to decide what I wanted to try (everything Jayson mentioned) but after hearing his description of the menu I decided upon Picada Manera it's like what I would consider a Pu Pu Platter. The dish included; whole Red Snapper, octopus, lobster tail, shrimp, fried mahi, yuca, tostones, sweet plantain, fries, chimichurri, tartara, and guacamole. Growing up my dad ALWAYS had baked halibut steaks. I absolutely hated that because of trying to get the flesh without swallowing a fish bone. Well some few years later, ahum, what do I order a platter with a Red Snapper with bones. The first bite was the most delicious, decadent, well seasoned fish that I have ever tasted. Who cares if I have to eat tiny bites! The flesh comes away from the bones and I couldn't stop, but there was so much more to try. The octopus could have been cut with a spoon no knife needed. It melted like butter when being eaten. I have had some rubbery octopus and squid in my lifetime, but definitely NOTHING this tender EVER. I shared a few SMALL morsels with the others, because I knew I couldn't eat the entire meal by myself. The lobster tail and shrimp was equally as tender and you could actually taste the meat, not just the marinade/seasoning. I did try a bite of everything else when it was still fresh and hot. The remaining will be consumed tomorrow for lunch.

The food is *excellent*, the starters are great, the cocktails are delicious, we haven't had one dud on any menu item. The only complaint is the location, and *maybe* some of the servers don't have so much English, but in a place like this, that's charm and it's never been a problem. The host is helpful and energetic, the interior is charming and interesting. If this was in Asheville, or Biltmore Square, it would be going gangbusters. Just a great place, cannot recommend this one enough.
