I've spoken to and/or received quotes from approximately 2 dozen moving companies over the last few weeks. "Long Dist. Movers" is, by far, the most arrogant, asinine, childishly silly, and mathematically challenged moving company I've ever encountered ... in my life. They seriously imagine we're supposed to submit to them a detailed list of the items being moved and apparently they think they can "calculate" what they want to use (i.e., what they want to charge you), not what you actually need. If you've moved before and added/subtracted certain types of items (e.g., appliances, larger or smaller sofa, gaming computer), then you pretty much know how much more/less truck space you'll need as compared to the last move. Worse, their expectation is that you'll be perfectly okay with them separating all your possessions ... that you'll NEED in your new home ... and storing them behind their fence somewhere and you'll just sit in your empty house without the ability to start organizing, cooking, cleaning, etc. It's utterly insane that anyone thinks that's a reasonable methodology. Every other moving company I called bases the move off the truck(s) that will be needed, yet this one somehow escaped from la-la land and bases the move off an "item count", lol. When I clarified that, YES, you can know what you need based off prior moves, the guy said "Oh, it doesn't work that way". No, sweetie ... I had a great experience with Long Distance Movers. I found LDM via its good Yelp reviews, and decided to give them a call for my move from Massachusetts to Texas. Their pricing is fairly straightforward, you provide inventory and they give you a price that's locked-in and does not change (as long as your inventory list and your move logistics are accurate), and then a day before your booked move date they give you a call and tell you a time window when they'll come. The movers themselves seem subcontracted in a way, but in any case they were professional, careful, friendly, and quick. Your goods are placed on a truck, taken to a facility, and moved to another truck for long-haul moves (consolidating shipping with other goods). They are transparent about this. If you have any goods that need to be crated (e.g., I had a 77" TV), they will wrap it in blankets at the scene and crate it at the intermediate facility prior to loading onto the 18-wheeler. I had a small hiccup during the pickup where my move was reclassifed as a "long carry" due to the distance between front door and truck. However, I completely agreed with this reassessment. It was a *long walk* to the truck. The additional fee was hefty, but fair ($600, based on the number of steps required over ~150 I believe). They provide a 14 business day delivery window, and within that window you should remain available the entire time. You can set your first available date up to ~30 days in the future (in case you don't immediately go to your destination, or have other commitments in between). However, once the goods are on the truck you get regular, daily updates on the location of the shipment via text and you can respond to the text with any questions you might have. In my case, I set my delivery date 2 weeks in the future because I had a vacation between. However, the truck was quickly approaching Texas, and I was able to coordinate a delivery much earlier than I expected. Great stuff, LDM! On delivery, the movers were obviously out of a different office in Texas. They were friendly, quick, and professional. They placed my items by majority all on the 2nd story of the destination house; they also reassembled all furniture they disassembled for the move (this is included in the price). Overall, I would recommend LDM to others. I had a great experience, timely move, good communication. The only suggestions I would have--for LDM-- would be a transparent breakdown of how your move price is calculated. All they provide is a final price, and you can work with your sales representative to figure out how to cost-optimize, but you don't get a detailed breakdown of how the price is calculated at any point (e.g., how much is for distance, vs. movers, vs. per-item, etc.). read more

I moved across multiple states in mid-June 2020. The good: everyone I interacted with was very friendly and polite. The bad: They over-promised on the "usual" delivery time frame. The person on the phone gave a rather confident estimate of 1 week and that they do that route often. It took double that time, which was still within the guaranteed time frame but given my conversation on the phone, I had made other plans contingent on a 1 week delivery estimate. Also, once I was booked with them, it was not easy to get a response via email or phone after leaving a voice message with the original person I spoke on the phone with to make changes or have questions answered. The ugly: They broke my bookshelf in transit and lost the screws to my TV stand. We put the TV stand and screws into a separate box. Upon arrival, the mover walked in with just the TV stand in hand, and no box (and no screws). I am still waiting for the claim to be processed. Overall, friendly over phone and email. Transparent pricing and breakdown. The actual moving was meh. They definitely talk the talk, but they didn't really walk the walk with me. read more

Everything about my move with this company was perfect. I had a unique situation in that I needed the contents of a storage unit in Houston moved to Chicago, but I work and spend most of my time in the Bay Area. Because of this I was not available to come to Houston for an in-person estimate. I contacted about 10 moving companies and this was the only one willing to give me an estimate based off of photos, inventory list and sizing info of the storage unit (with the condition that the estimate may be off based on the fact that it wasn't done in person- which is totally reasonable). I was so grateful that they were willing to work with me on this since it saved me from having to take time off work and travel all the way across the country just for an estimate. The estimate that I received was clear and competitively priced, so I went ahead and hired them. My father met them at the storage unit on the day of pick up and he was very impressed by how carefully they wrapped all of my belongings up. While the truck was en route to Chicago, they kept me updated daily with the location of the truck and that it was still expected to arrive on time. The truck arrived on the guaranteed delivery date and within the time frame they said it would, even despite a snow storm. The three men who unloaded were very polite and hardworking. They got the job done impressively fast and took great care of my home and belongings. Because I had not been able to be in Houston, I underestimated my inventory list by a few items, but it resulted in only a minor price increase (by no fault of this company- it was my own fault) and otherwise the estimate was very accurate. Overall communication was consistently excellent, pricing was competitive, they stuck to their word with pricing and delivery date, and they were very hardworking people who took great care of my belongings. Unfortunately the man on the phone was very professional and told me someone would be sending me an email within the next 24 hours to schedule an appointment. Never got an email and when I called back the guy on the phone acted like he didn't care. If they aren't helpful now how will they be during the move! Manager called and asked me to give them another chance. Scheduled appointment for today and never showed up and no call. I used this company about a month ago to move the items in my 1 bedroom apt and car (Jeep) from TX to VA. I had called plenty more but this one was the only one that based on reviews and communication felt trustworthy. We recently used this company to move my Mom from her home in Texas to Southern California. My husband had done some research on the web and he said based on reviews and his conversation with the company that this is who we should use. And it was a great call! There was great communication every step of the way and they always checked back with us after the fact to make sure everything went well. They handled my move from Texas to Michigan. I would rate Long Distance Movers 4/5 as they were very good with the overall moving. They moved my car and the household goods. The real drawback that I would suggest them is co-ordinate better when picking up the goods at the source. I experienced minor issues on both my moves and hence giving a 4/5. However, once the stuff was picked up it was delivered within rapid speed. The car was picked up on a Saturday morning and delivered Monday morning. This was very impressive!! Similarly the household goods came in good condition and within 7-8 days after they were shipped from houston. Nothing smelled funny. They are reliable and a good moving company. Everything worked out great this time around, the previous time we had opted to reach out and get help for a move it did not work out well. It was not until we got into contact with Long Distance that we realized what a true service company is like. They offered us all of their plans and deals, as well as told us to consider how big the move would be and which pieces of equipment would actually be necessary just so we did not have to pay for useless things and still be charged for them. Within a few days we had received a knock on the door by a supervisor and a group of men who had arrived to predict how much work the move would require. He got on his walkie talkie and spoke to the boss back at the headquarters I presume, and about thirty minutes later another truck with two extra guys showed up to begin the move. They helped us pack everything into wooden crates for the appliances and the clothing and stuff they had separate cardboard boxes and bags for. They were of this weird cotton type of material and it provided extra stability and security so that our stuff would not be knocked back and forth. It took about forty eight hours before most of the house was emptied out and our things were scheduled to arrive within the next week. We had moved in and began unpacking all of the things we had carried on hand. And luckily, about two days later all of our things began arriving and we have just began the unpacking process. We used Long Distance Movers for a move from Galveston TX to Winter Springs FL. The contacts with the moving company via both phone and e-mail were helpful and concise. Questions were answered quickly and professionally. The moving crew who came to Galveston were friendly and very professional. We were told we would be contacted in a day or two with the delivery date. During the week this move occurred there were icy conditions on the roads out of Galveston. We received the call with the date of delivery as we were on the road to Florida. We couldn't have been more pleased that our furniture would arrive the day after our arrival! No sleeping on an air mattress in an empty apartment. The brothers who delivered our furniture were professional and quick! They assembled all of the furniture as required. Nothing was damaged. As I continue to open the very battered boxes that EZ Movers delivered, I find more pieces of my china broken. Each piece had been carefully wrapped and insulated, and the boxes clearly marked as china/crystal to be handled with care, plus they were also labeled as very heavy to prevent stacking. EZ Movers clearly ignored the labels and they stacked the boxes on top of each other: many of the china pieces did not withstand the pressure and broke. If you value your delicate objects, do not entrust them to EZ Movers. I've moved several times and they have been the worst moving nightmare that you ever dreaded. read more
