Potato tots and fried chicken breast were PERFECTLY cooked--not greasy, and deliciously crunchy. Salad was simple but tasty and the Blue Cheese dressing was loaded with savory blue cheese chunks. Both the waitress and the cook were so friendly and welcoming. I felt right at home in the classic Western saloon decor. Just a wonderful stop on my road trip to Wallowa Lake!! We stopped into Long Branch on a road trip. Stepping inside is cozy, clean and the staff is welcoming. The counter stools are just what this diner is all about! We ordered the Long Branch scramble. It was delicious! The chef knows how to manage the grill. We watched him artfully craft eggs, burritos, various omelettes and everything looked tasty! Good food, lackadaisical service. Sit in the front if you want a regular breakfast. Sit in the back at your own risk......the floor show will begin with pop and country music blasting and an American idol drop out named Jeremy singing along at the top of his drunken lungs. We were the only table in the bar for breakfast around 10am and we had to ask for more coffee twice....it's a small brick room and sound travels fast so conversations are not private back there. Great food with mediocre service in a filthy environment. The "Branch Burger", 1/3 lb of beef with canadian bacon has well-prepared (not well-done) beef that isn't dried out, the hash browns are perfectly prepared (browned and crispy on the outside, soft, almost like mashed potatoes on the inside). However, the staff screwed up our order and generally seemed like they didn't care, and the place was weirdly dirty. The menus are gross -- sticky, like they haven't been cleaned in years. And the seats are just as gross! I didn't notice until after I sat down, but the seats are as greasy as the food. P.S. The bathroom is in an over-21 area. That's fine for us, but don't expect to use this place as a rest stop if you have kids! P.P.S. This place is cash only. Bring cash to avoid getting gouged by ATM fees. The Yelp survey is asking me if this place accepts Android Pay. LOOOOOOL no. Maybe in 2030. This place is old school. read more

The experience at the Long Branch diner was a 5 star experience. My husband and I had a blast there. The food was really good and priced at fair rates. But at the same time you get what you pay for, service is slow, very much a ma' pop shop, and the cleanliness of the employees is at times below FDA standards. It is a cash only business, which we found great!! We are broke college students and $20 bucks is all we have left. Over all we give a 3 star review because of some small but very important infractions. P.S. The lottery machine by the doors to the bar are free, and let you win, often. P.P.S. Not kid friendly, must be 21 to pee. read more

Awesome place. Small restaurant, but the menu is great. Food is fantastic, staff was really nice and friendly. We stopped by from a trip we made and I couldn't be more happy with it. Great food and the waiter was cool and suuuper friendly. The host/dishwasher needs a lesson in customer service. He was very short and no pleases or thank you's. Prices and portions are AMAZING! Ate lunch here based on the positive reviews but really can't recommend it based on my experience. Maybe I was there at the wrong time and on the wrong day of the week (Tuesday lunch), but the dish I ordered was not good at all. Add to that I noticed after placing my order that they are cash only (had $6 on me), so I had to spend $2 extra to get cash from the atm in the bar and they don't have a restroom accessible to those under age 21(!). Looks like this place hasn't changed much over the years. 30 years ago, after a week in the Wallowas wilderness, my friend and I used to look forward to breakfast at The Long Branch on our way back to Portland. It was fantastic then, sounds like it still is. How I miss this place. Might just be enough reason to head back to La Grande someday here real soon. Real local eggs, bacon, and other good stuff. 3 stars because place is not updated, filthy dirty...but 200 stars for breakfast food! If you leave hungry it's because you didn't eat. Bathroom should not be in the bar.. Taking cards is a must!
