I love a good sub shop. But my roast beef sub literally only had two thin slices of meat on it. It was laughable. They could double the meat and it would still not be enough. I know things cost more now but charge me more if you have to. Just don't make me open my food at home and feel completely ripped off. $13 for some bread and lettuce. Friendly service. We ordered the grilled Italian Panini. As we watch the gentleman make the sandwich was fresh ingredients, we got some insight onto the town of Legrand, Oregon. The Panini was thin, but very crisp and flavorful. My husband and I shared it, which was plenty. We also got two bags of chips and an iced tea. I really wanted to love this place but if I could give it a negative 20 stars I would. They set their own hours and pretty much open and close when they feel like it. I showed up during their open hours and they had a sign in the window saying they were closed for some gonzo reason. This has happened numerous times in the past. This last time I arrived at 6PM, an hour before their posted closing time and they were inside, door locked, ignoring me. This is a real problem for me since I head out to Cove early in the morning and need to pack a really good sandwich for lunch. But this place might as well be out of business for all the good they do me since they are never open even during posted regular open hours. If the people inside had any class, which they obviously do not, someone could have come to the door and told me wazzup. So minus 20 stars for being a bunch of arrogant SOBs. This place could well serve up the best sub sandwich on the planet but I guess I will never find out. We stopped here as we were traveling through and found it on yelp. Reviewers were right, it was friendly, clean and the food was fresh and good. VERY slow service. Phoned in my order at 11:55 am. Was told 25 minutes. Arrived at 12:30. They hadn't even started my order and there were only 3 other people in the place. Got my order at 12:45 and later discovered I didn't get the side of honey mustard I requested and no Mayo when I requested everything on it. My wife and kids went here this past weekend and were greeted by a worthless employee who was pissed that they wanted sandwiches 30 minutes before they closed. Seriously?!?! There was still a half hour before they closed and the lady came out and said very pissy "Are you serious?!?! We close in thirty minutes!" I can of course understand 5 minutes before and would leave or just get what ever was available, but this place still had THIRTY minutes. I understand this is La Grande, but you have a business to run, RUN IT. My wife, politely said sorry to her, even though she didn't need to be and wanted to respond back. Then altered the order to make it easy for the young girl who was trying to help her. The food at the sub shop is actually good, but as with all businesses in La Grande you will live or die based on your customer service because word of mouth travels fast. I'm so sad to write this review because my sandwich was so freaking good and GREAT prices. While I was getting my food I saw a lady and a little girl in the area where sandwiches were being made. It was a two sided sandwich station where they share the sandwich toppings. The lady was making sandwiches without gloves! At one point she went in the back came out and started building her sandwiches still with no gloves. She grabbed bread and then put it back in the bag after grabbing something from the freezer and putting that in the microwave. The little girl was putting her hands on the station, touched some of the topping containers and even sat on the sandwich station. Finally the lady asked the little girl to go sit down. After I left I decided to call and speak with a manager. When I told her my concern she 1st blew me off my saying, "Oh yes that's Betty's daughter and granddaughter". I asked her who Betty was and she stated she is the owner. Her tone was like it was no big deal. I told the manager that it doesn't matter they still have to follow food safety. The Manager said very rudely " Well I will tell Betty but she is not here. They were making their own sandwiches." I told her but its gross because she was touching items that go on my sandwich, so no it's not just her sandwiches. She got more rude and said "Ok fine I will tell Betty." I can't tell you that this place serves the tastiest subs, but for the money, this place is pure gold. I had the #1, which is essentially a grinder. They allow you to choose your toppings, which I liked. My sandwich was too light on the wet ingredients (oil, vinegar, and mayo). The wheat bread was pretty lackluster as well. My wife really enjoyed her sub, though. What was remarkable, though, was the sheer size of these subs. Easily 50% bigger than we expected - for like, $6! We ordered ice cream afterward, and the single scoop was enormous! For $2. If I lived in La Grande, I would eat there twice a week at least. So, to summarize: good subs, great prices. Subshop is always good! It is reasonably priced and you can customize ANY of the sandwiches. Several flavors of ice cream are available and a lardmge kiddie scoop is only a buck! My personal favorites are the chef salad and the turkey/bacon/croissant. They are open 6 days a week, deliver for a small fee and offer catering. Support your local small business! read more

I can't believe it I went there and they have gluten free bread! I went with a friend who said they had gluten free soup and the owner started telling me about the bread!
