We had the pleasure of visiting Saturday with a group of friends and had truly the most wonderful experience at Lonesome Rock- all courtesy of owners Danny and Susan. By far our favorite stop among the 5+ wineries and tasting rooms we stopped at in Oregon. First, their effort to curate a deeply personal and unique experience for guests was above and beyond industry standard. We felt at home from the moment they met us at the front door, and like old friends after they shared their lovely story of coming together and to their gorgeous Oregon property. They were also so generous, taking lots of time to speak in detail with the "wine nerds" of our group about their shared interests and obsessions. The table setting was beautiful, and the service itself was perfect. Fresh glasses with nearly every pour and serving the ladies in our group first was a very nice detail that did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Sitting on the deck was absolutely breathtaking, even in the rain we had the best time looking out at the breathtaking garden, grounds, and vineyards. And don't worry, they went the extra mile to bring out heaters even on a lightly rainy June day! Second, Sharon made the most incredible little breakfast treat to accompany our tasting. Getting to watch her cook amazing smelling concoctions in the background and receive a truly fresh, delicious snack with fresh herbs was a really great touch and elevated the experience even more. It was so good we half-joked that we wanted to cancel out plans for the day just to stay for dinner! Third but most certainly not last, the wine was just incredible. A pinot lovers delight. Our group's spreadsheet-making level pinot-obsessive was over the moon, I had to practically physically restrain him from blowing our whole weekend's buying budget just at Lonesome Rock (sorry!). After completing our other tastings elsewhere, I can say I was wrong to do so! Danny and Susan, beware our future orders and our 100% certain return to darken your doorstep in the future. Can't wait for the next release and to see what more amazing stuff will come out of this gem of a winery!

Fresh baked gougeres made by Susan. Yummy!!

My husband and I had an amazing experience at Lonesome Rock Estate wine. The owner hosted tasting was held on Susan and Danny's outdoor deck. For us, the highlights were the pinots and the warm hospitality of these winery owners. We loved our experience so much, we are now wine club members !

I did the red tasting flight which consisted of 3 pinot noirs, a merlot, and a tempranillo. Oregon is known for its pinot noir and those were the wines I thought were best. Niki enthusiastically provided information and details of each wine as she poured. I appreciated her honest insights and opinions of Willamette Valley wines and of various types of wines in general. She really made the tasting experience both fun and educational. The relaxed atmosphere of this place was perfect for sipping wine. I ended up leaving with a bottle of 2021 Tualatin Estate Pinot Noir which was my favorite of the ones I sampled.

Tonight we stopped in to grab a bottle of the Grenache from the Maison Bleu label. While I've already ordered a few, my shipment came the day before I left for Oregon and with this varietal coming from the Milton-Freewater AVA, I had to get it now! It was everything and more. Yum! Back to the tasting room... The vibe is chill and there's enough room in here for a few different sized parties. They have some great wine! And cool trinkets, oils and such. If you are in the area, please stop in, say hello and try the Grenache! You'll not be disappointed.

The other reviews are not kidding when they praise the view! The space is absolutely gorgeous-- the tasting room feels luxurious and comfortable, and tables are not too close together. But wow, the view takes the cake. You overlook the vineyards, and even though it was cold and cloudy we were blown away. What really impressed me, though, was the service. Our sommelier, Adam, was incredibly personable and a joy to talk to. Further, he was incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of the wine-- not just the tasting notes and region. He knew a ton about the history of the land/winemaking in this specific part of Oregon and the ecological preservation efforts of winemakers in the area. He produced photos and diagrams of different soil types and explained how they impact the taste of the wine when we did side-by-sides. When I mentioned I had a chemistry background and expressed interest in the chemistry of the winemaking process, he was able to speak in detail about their wines and the ways they are made (probably because he's actually worked in the cellars, too, not just in customer service). As I have mentioned in other reviews, I don't always feel like I get a great customer service experience at wineries because my partner and I are pretty young and because I often have on alternative makeup. We were given A+ treatment here, and I want to thank Adam for making the experience feel special. The wine was good. We got a bonus pour of one of their sparkling wines to start, which was lovely and a nice romantic touch since we were celebrating. I liked their Chardonnay (concrete egg and VERY light oak which is probably why-- I don't like a heavy, buttery Chard) and was surprised it was so good-- it was a seven-year-old white which is unusual, but it really worked. We got side-by-side pours of the pinots, which was great-- I love when wineries do this! It makes it so much easier to taste the different notes. We ended up getting a bottle of their Riesling. The tasting was $25, which is an absolute steal for the level of service we got. Truly a wonderful time, and we look forward to returning.

Update: Shelby, as I shared in our phone call at no time was I told there was a 6-8 year window to consume these wines. 6 @ $50-60 I view as theft when a winery doesn't attempt to make things right. I have an additional 6-8 of this vintage and I will update this post.

The person serving us asked if we wanted to buy a bottle, and we said yes, but then he would pour us tiny portions and take the bottle away. He then asked if we wanted to try something else after the first pour. This further confused us since we thought we bought the bottle. But we the assumed we must not have if we was asking if we wanted to try something else. So he brought out an another bottle and did the same thing. Small pour and walked away with the bottle. We were late for another tasting so asked to check out. We noticed we were charged for the two full bottles but we never finished them. Then got a text later from the winery saying they forgot to send us home with the rest of the wine we had purchased. So turns out we had bought the two bottles but were never served the whole bottles. We said we were flying home and unable to get them and asked for a partial refund. They refused. Safe to say this one of the most bizarre experiences we've had at a winery. The customer service was lackluster. I saw other reviews about them being pretentious and I would have to agree. We will never return to this winery, will no longer purchase their wine in stores, and will actively advise friends to do the same.
