Came back here for the second time since the first visit went great. We ordered the Gator Bites, Diablo Queso and 2/3 Ribs with Fries and a side of tortillas. Again, the Gator Bites (5/5) were cooked perfectly. It was tender and juicy while the batter was crispy. The seasoning was great. It can definitely go without the dip. Diablo Queso (4/5) with tortilla chips was smooth and creamy with a slight tang. The cheese had a sharpness to it. It also had some ground beef in it. Although it could use more jalapenos (there was only one slice). It's better to eat this dish while it's fresh as the texture of the dip isn't as great once cooled down. 2/3 Ribs with Fries and Pickle Slaw (4/5) was delicious. We had it with the Bold Texas BBQ sauce which was spiced with a slight sweetness to it, which complemented the woodfire grilled ribs. The ribs were flavourful, smoky and tender although they didn't exactly fall off the bone. We wish there was additional sauce for dipping. The fries were good as well. The Pickle Slaw was okay. It was crunchy and tangy but definitely needed more dressing. This time around the service was okay (2/5). We came on a Wednesday at 2:40pm. We came in and waited for a host/hostess to bring us to our table. After waiting for a bit, a male server came to the front, made eye contact with us and we said hello. The male server proceeded to put back a menu on the desk and walked away without acknowledging us. After a few minutes, a female server came and asked us if anyone has helped us. We told her no and so she took initiative to seat us at a table. The service was slower compared to my first visit all throughout. They were advertising 85 cent Wing Wednesday which is what we wanted to try, they were unfortunately sold out of wings when we got there a few hours past noon. This place has a nice ambiance to it. We stopped by here on the way back from blue mountain and had a really good experience. We ate on the patio to avoid people and shared the fajita special for 2. The Food: The fajita special for 2 came with ribs, steak, chicken and shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. The meats were tender and cooked perfectly. They replenished our chips, tortillas, and salsa multiple times because we are loyalty members and we really enjoyed all of the dishes. The Service: The service was really good and quick. It's a shame when a restaurant tries to not offend anyone, but offends everyone. The saltiest thing I had was the Guacamole. Which really should be the least salty item. The fajitas were under seasoned, the lettuce, and sides were way too small of portions. It's been a few years since I visited a Lone Star. It will be the last visit I have. Just gross. My boss and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. No one seated us after 5 minutes, so we sat ourselves in the bar area and looked at the menu for a bit. We're patient folks (I'm sure that's exactly what impatient people would say but I digress). As the minutes rolled by, we saw a waitress walk between the dining and bar sections, into the kitchen. We enjoyed going to this restaurant but after tonight we will never be back. The girl at the front door was very helpful but the manager on duty i found to be very dismissive and wouldn't even bring the missing food to me at the front door instead sending someone else. I stopped by the Lone Star in Barrie today for lunch. I was seated promptly, and the food also came out very quickly. I stopped by around 2 pm, so it was nice as the restaurant wasn't too busy or loud. The restaurant gets quite loud at dinner time, so this was very nice. I typically get the ribs, but today I had the 7" steak and a side of shrimp again. I ordered it with a side of vegetables. The steak was very good, it was served rare. It was cooked perfectly and was very juicy. It was seasoned perfectly as well. No grizzle, very tender and easy to cut. The vegetables were a little firm which is fine because that's how I prefer them. Lots of variety with red pepper, yellow zucchini, broccoli, and green beans. The garlic shrimp were excellent. Flavourful and a nice accompaniment for $5 The staff were very courteous and stopped by the table just the right amount of times. I ordered the Lonestar wrap and fries while my girlfriend ordered the southern fried chicken tenders. The wrap was very bland and soggy, the fries were also warm and soggy. The chicken tenders my girlfriend has was served warm and reminded me of boneless chicken wings dunked in wing sauce. The coleslaw was completely bland. We sat looking at each other and the $30 food in front of us and decided to send it all back. We ended up going to Costco across the street for a hotdog. I have since been back to use up the rest of the gift card and to give this place a second chance. While the experience was a complete disaster as the first time it was merely "ok". Lone Star is a pretty good restaurant. The service is good, and you get good food pretty darn fast. Once we went to Sticky Fingers, the service was pretty bad, the lights we're flickering, and we waited a half hour to order our drinks, another half hour to get them, then another hour of waiting to order our food before we left without telling them, then just came here instead. The waiters are also very nice and understanding, and they always know what they're doing which makes a huge difference in the service. -Calvin Lone Star has great fajitas and appetizers. Very disappointing dinner tonight. Manager was very unwelcoming, had an attitude and she seemed bothered that we were coming out to dinner. Our server was great, nice and friendly but that was the only great thing. We ordered 3 fajitas, all were bland bland bland ...no taste, missing seasoning and the steak one was dry and chewy. Chicken fingers were dry and hard, mostly all batter and kid's burger was served with a soggy bun. Chicken Cabo taco was decent but nothing special. I grew up right around the corner from the original Lone Star and have never been to a franchise store. The atmosphere wasn't the same rowdy dive bar kind of feel, but the food and drinks were great! We had fajitas, margaritas, sangria and quesadillas. Service was not all that great, disjointed and impersonal, and no one seemed to know who had what tables, or much about the menu. I was surprised coming to this location, how smoothly everything was going! To start off with, after a long day we were all tired and just stopped for some dinner before continuing our trip. Service was fast, immediately we were brought chips and salsa and not long after water. Our server was excellent, very friendly and professional. Food was good but wow you really don't get a lot of bang for your buck. I used to go to this location all of the time and then didn't go for about a year or year and a half. They used to keep refilling the tortilla chips while you waited for your food, now they charge you $2 for an extra handful of chips. I have ordered the Chimichanga many times, was my go to item. It used to be a full meal with sides: rice, beans, etc. No sides with it now at all but is still over $18. For 2 pop without refills, one burrito and one chimichanga (with no sides) and one refill of chips our lunch bill was over $57. I will not go back, it just isn't worth it for the money. Try Quesada or Mucho Burrito; same quality but much cheaper. read more

The hostess was very nice and professional, as was our server. We were pleased when we were immediately served chips and salsa. When it was time to order, I got chicken wings (butter medium) and a side of fries. My boyfriend got bruschetta and the dirty queso. The chicken wings were delicious. I kinda wished we had gotten two pounds instead of one, because everything else was pretty bad. We will take our share of the blame for not reading the menu properly. My bf thought that the queso was actually a quesadilla, so that kinda sucked. But again,our bad. The fries and the bruschetta both suffered from sitting in the window for too long. The bruschetta bread was hard and inedible. The fries were warm and soggy. It was reminiscent of what French fries would be like if you reheated them in a microwave. Warm, soggy, and almost gummy. I didn't even eat a quarter of them. The food was really good but the service wasn't great. Our server greeted us and got us our drinks but then another family was sat in her section and it seemed like she knew them. She made sure that they received their chips and salsa right away but we didn't receive ours for about 20 minutes until I asked her for them. Yesterday I took my sister here to have a late lunch, food was great, we had the same as I had before (fajitas) and the host was wonderful also he also brought us our chips and salsa but what kind of ruined the whole lunch was our server, she seemed fairly attentive to her other tables (wasn't super busy) but seemed to purposely ignore our table, took forever to even get her attention to get a glass of water or some more guacamole as she seemed to purposely avoid our table, it made the whole experience awkward as I even found myself asking my sister if I had been inadvertently rude or something but she assured me I had not! I'm not sure if I will return or not as I love the food but would hate to have the same type of service again! read more

As a former fan of the franchise, I was disappointed on my last visit. The staff were friendly and accommodating as usual, my issue however was with the menu. On a date night a week or so ago, my wife and I were out to eat. My wife, a red-meat eater at heart, bravely ordered the new streakhouse burger at our servers suggestion while I stuck to my perennial favourite: chicken quesadillas. I was excited to see what appeared to be an updating of this menu item. The server assured me the classic quesadilla flavor remained, with some welcome changes. We were offered tortilla chips "For $1" while we waited, though surprised by the charge we ordered them. The $1 plate of chips and salsa seemed smaller than the free ones we remembered from our last visit. Granted, it's been awhile since we've been to Lone Star and I'm not sure when that change was implemented.When the food arrived, I was disappointed to taste my Quesadilla and find that the flavor seems to have changed entirely. Quesadilla's are a favorite of mine at any restaurant, but especially at Lone Star. I was very disappointed with the changes and was barely up to finishing the dish. Sorry to say that we came away from dinner disappointed. We haven't been in awhile and my husband was excited for the chimichanga that he's had in the past, but they must have changed the ingredients as the chicken was chewy chicken cubes instead of shredded. It also came alone, where it used to come on a plate with refried beans and rice. My fajitas steak was so tough I couldn't even chew it (lettuce has also seen better days). My wife and I just returned from the Barrie location. She ordered the chicken enchiladas and I had the Sirloin Steak at medium rare. After 50 minutes of waiting, the steak came overcooked and her enchiladas were bland and the chicken was dry...similar to the chicken at Swiss Chalet. We both refused the meal. The manager came over and politely took everything off the bill. Originally my wife wanted the chicken fried steak. THE BIG RED FLAG CAME when our server told her that it was not a wise choice and that 4 people yesterday sent this dish back and even the chef said the recipe needs to change. My boyfriend and I came tonight on Saturday only because the other three restaurants we wanted to go were too busy. We were greeted by a hostess and taken to our table. The first server said that our actual server was busy and she'd take our drink orders... the vibe we got was that she was very unfriendly. When our server came, she was very sweet. We ordered our drinks and nachos to start with her. When the food came, it was another girl who served us and she quite literally dropped the plate of nachos onto the table that a couple chips even fell off the plate... I'm not even exaggerating when I say that the other table looked over when we started laughing because we were so surprised that this girl did that and walked away in a huff... she didn't even care that we didn't get our salsa. Our server came back to check on us, and we told her. She was very apologetic and seemed like it's not the first time. I really hope she got spoken to because I've gotten bad service before, but not by some random server... Happy to say they didn't disappoint -- AMAZING food, FANTASTIC service... it was our 20th wedding anniversary, and at least a dozen of the wait staff made a point to come to our table and wish us a happy anniversary. Attended a Friday around 4:30pm We had the fajitas, other than the tortillas being freshly made this place wasn't anything special. The waitresses were dressed inappropriate with extremely short skirts, twice we saw the bottom ass of one waitress as she just slightly (not even a bend) leaned forward a bit to take someone order. I get they try to make it a country feel but lets be a bit more classy and fun without the sleezy. I wouldnt bring my kids to this place because of the dress code. A family of 4 were sitting across from us looking at the menu when we first walked in and they didn't get their food until after we had already finished ours. We waiting about 15 min for our drinks and another 15 for our food. The toppings that came with our meal were scarce and all though unlimited, after making my first fajitas I needed a refill on most of them. Which there were no waitresses passing our way until they decided to take the family of 4s order when we were just about finished our meal. Obviously we wont be back. read more
