D.Masonry - The scary pillar Before-and-After. (1930's "clinker" brick is supposed to look uneven)

Communication was great, David even called me to let me know he was going to be a half hour late. Fantatstic work. Would hire again.

And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

We hired Stucco and Stone Masons, a company we found via Thumbtack. Their company had good…read morerecommendations, were very prompt in their response, came to our home for a quote within 2 days, and could start right away. Work included: 1) Floor leveling (our floors were very uneven!) 2) Tile installation 1100 sq. ft (12X12 travertine squares, arabesque travertine tile, 3X5ft subway tile shower + mosaic travertine shower floor tiles) 3) Plaster wall repair in our basement (7 exterior walls) To give you an idea of the VALUE this company brought to our renovation: We had received four quotes JUST for the tile installation that were between $13,000-$15,000, which did *not* include floor leveling or plaster wall repairs! These companies/individuals were booked for months in advance and their turnaround for completion would have been 4-6 weeks. This would have severely delayed our project. Filiberto (goes by Beto) and his two sons were very friendly and honest. They quoted us $8,000 for #1-3 work above, and said they would be finished within 3 weeks. They WOULD have been finished before that 3-week timeframe had we not miscalculated the amount of tile they would need for the bathroom floor. They were very understanding of our mistake and returned as soon as the rest of the tile arrived to finish the project. Beto's crew of four men arrived every day around 9am, and worked around the clock - even SATURDAYS! They were extremely courteous, professional and hard working. Some days they did not leave until 8pm! I have never met such a dedicated, hard-working group of people. If we had questions/concerns, they were very open to resolving the matter quickly. We are incredibly pleased with their work. Our basement looks AMAZING!! The sand colored tile and the plaster wall repairs has really brightened the space. We are planning to hire them again to repave our driveway and front sidewalk/steps in the spring. We hope you consider them for your future concrete, plaster and or tile projects! In 2017 my family moved to Littleton, Co. I lost multiple house bids in this market. So we offered…read moremore than asking price and purchase a house. One month later I watched as water rushed in around multiple windows. In 23 years no previous owner had re-chalked the windows. I found the #1 stucco inspector in Colorado and they found as much as 60% moisture in multiple walls. Being new to Colorado, as asked them for a good company to do the moisture remediation and repairs. They said they only gave two companies referrals. SDR or Stucco Done Right was one of the two. The small American family owned company came out and did a few inspection and estimate. As did the second company. After asking dozens of questions I chose Alex and Gladys at SDR. Hiring SDR was the single best decision I made in the three years we have lived in this house. The orders I gave Alex was cut 1'x1' test holes in the stucco until you find good wood then perform any remediation needed. The issue was the entire 4000 sq ft house was rotten. The plywood was rotten and had black mold. The 2"x4" studs and all surrounding wood was dry rotten after 23 years of owner neglect. This house was in Architectual Digest in 1996 when it was built and is a well know house in Roxborough Park community. " Casa da Roca Roja" the Red Rick House. It deserved the best and SDR with Pedro as Team Leader did it not once but three times. We could not afford to redo the entire house at one time. Plus replace and repair every wood frame window. So SDR worked with us to do it in stages. When Alex saw the tremendous damage the house had and saw evidence of how the previous owner intentionally hide the damage using paint and soft chalk he was pissed. And he understood the situation my family was in and my limited disability income. So to stop me from filing bankruptcy, he cut his price as much as possible without being asked! And starting in late October 2017 his company started and installed three stories of scaffolding around 1/2 the house. I watched his men work in the rain and bitter cold, shoveling snow and ice off the scaffolding to work every day. Literally every bit of exterior stucco, foam, insulation and almost every bit of wood stud framing was removed from half my house. They worked with installers of Familia Windows in Denver to repair or replace all the windows from half my house, (North and West sides)! They worked through Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years. In the worst of winter. They showed up every day at 8am, Saturday's at 9am and worked until dark. If there was a delay or weather reasons to unsafe to work, the owner Alex called or drive to my house to discuss. No one reading this will have a house worse off than my house. Contractors grade the work level of a project. My have was a 9 or 10 out of 10 for difficulty. And that grading was given by a separate stucco contractor. Difficult because I chose to keep the rounded parapets and no cheap aluminum ridge caps. All stucco around the windows had to be rounded off. And this house has a great number of smaller and larger wall sizes and angles. Not a square or plain rectangle house. And everyone including the Douglas county inspector and stucco competition stated the work done was incredible. After SDR finished the worse half of the house. We had spent our life savings. So we had to get a new house appraisal and a new loan to borrow more money to get the second half of the house done. I contacted a total of four stucco companies and SDR was one of the four. I was amazed at the high prices quoted, I think because of the neighborhood this house is in and them thinking we were rich. SDR was not the lowest but third of the four. And the other three estimators did not impress me with timing, appearance or knowledge. When you hire SDR you get real employees that have stayed years with Alex. And you get the owner on site all the time. He reviews the work at least weekly. No subcontractors with SDR. Alex has full control over the crew and the work. If there is a owner concern, he addresses it immediately. No arguments or email exchanges, it's yes sire, we will fix it! So he has done my entire house down to the studs and more, top to bottom and does not cut corners. He stands behind his quality work so he will turn down a job to patch and paint and not repair moisture damage because it will come back and re-damage the work he has done. So it is really "STUCCO DONE RIGHT"! So I have hired SDR three times in three years and they have removed, performed moisture remediation and re-stuccoed my house twice in those three years and I would never hire another stucco company but SDR. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone and I have referred them many times in my own neighborhood. He is always on time or he will at least call and notify you as to when he will arrive and why he is late. Most contractors in Colorado don't!
