Brick Specialists are not the cheapest--just the best. We interviewed and took quotes from four bidders, and we chose James and his team from Brick Specialists because of their expertise, decades of experience, work ethic, reliability, and excellence in the finished product. James, the owner, carefully inspected our 1890 brick Victorian, identifying areas that I realized that other vendors overlooked. He provided a complete solution, without trying to upsell me. Instead, he focused on structural integrity, impermeability to water, and aesthetics. He told me that his company has many teams and does about a dozen projects per month, and right then, he said that our home would take two men four days of work, and he broke the project down into three options and immediately verbally quoted the price for everything. The next day, he sent me the written copy of the quote. He told me that his crew would show up every day at 7am, and that they would not be pulled off my job to do other jobs. No money was required up front; just full payment when the work was completed. Guess what: everything mentioned above was delivered on. Eduardo and Julio began work every morning at 7am and cleaned up the site by 5 or 6pm. Half way through the project, James visited to inspect, and make sure that I was pleased with the work so far. Then when the project was completed--on time!--James was there again to inspect, and Eduardo and Julio washed away the brick dust on the whole house and left the premises in good, clean shape. I've read some other reviews that unfortunately downgraded Brick Specialists just because James requested the full payment in person when the work was complete. Of course I had the check ready immediately because he trusted me to remit after he had invested his crew's time for four days! Very happy that we trusted the next 100 years of our 135 year-old house's life to Brick Specialists! read more

For some reason Yelp isn't showing my review. I've updated my profile to put in more information so that, hopefully, Yelp's algorithm won't mark me as spam. I normally would not take the time for something like this, but I really liked Jame's work and am actually proud to show off the walls he repaired (they are interior and now look great). Here is my original review: I recently bought a home built in 1890 that needed some tuck pointing and a lot of brick repair in the foundation. I called four different places that specialized in brickwork for old/historic homes because the mortar used in older homes is different from modern mortar and it has to be matched properly. James from Denver Brick Specialists got back to me the next day, we arranged a time for him to look at the house, and I had a bid a week before anyone else even got around to calling me back. Overall, the experience was great. James was booked out for almost two months but was able to squeeze our job in a small opening they had so we could finish laying our floors and move in. For two days they showed up at 7:00 AM like they said they would, worked until 7:00 PM, and then came in for a few hours on Saturday to finish up a small section. I was impressed that, instead of rushing things, they put in the extra hours to do it right. Our previously decaying brick walls now looks great. They matched the aged color of both the mortar and replacement bricks so that our walls look correct, i.e. they look their proper age and any new bricks seamlessly blend in with the original bricks. Lastly, James is easy to work with. He quoted us a bid and that was the price - no increases as the job went along - no increases as more bad bricks were found. Simple and straightforward. You really can't ask for more than someone that does great work and treats you fair. read more

I had a really good experience with James of Brick Specialists. We called because our home insurance company said we had to repair some of the brick on our porch and chimney or they'd deny us coverage. Mind you, this is about 15 days after closing on our house with no time to save up money again. I was NOT happy about it. I was recommended to Brick Specialists through my Realtor, who hadn't worked with him but heard good things "though the grape vine." We had James come in to give us a quote (which was free, but I believe that's standard for brick contractors?) for repairing the required work as well as some more minor cracks that we figured would only get worse. James pointed out the various bad tuck pointing jobs through the years, with all different colors of mortar and some damage to the brick. He gave us a reasonable quote (we quoted out with a few contractors), but what really sealed the deal was the testimonials he brought with him. He's got years upon years of written testimonials from customers giving him glowing reviews. And apparently, I'm joining the ranks! But if you get a quote, definitely ask to see them. Now that we have the "issues" fixed and we're so happy with the work, we're planning on having him come back to replace some of the ugly, badly done pink mortar done previously by who knows who. I can say - without reservation - Brick Specialists is a great company to trust your brick work too. read more

I feel compelled to write a review about James, who was great to work with. Brick Specialists came out to do work on my one car garage which I believe is original to the house (circa 1940s). The crew did a great job tuck pointing on the exterior and replacing bricks on the inside that had been carved out. James was very knowledgeable about brick restoration and clearly stated what he thought I needed. Never did I feel like he was trying to sell me something I didn't need. He was flexible in working me on my schedule, letting me push back a month while we got some other work done. Communication was great as he always got me to me quickly and answered any questions that I had. However, the best part was how James worked with me to fix a misunderstanding in my estimate. He was clear about what services they would do in the estimate and what they would replace, and I mistakenly thought that some exterior brick would be patched when in reality the brick needed to be replaced. When I called him to discuss, he immediately came over so that he could take a look. I appreciate him dropping whatever he was doing on a weekday afternoon to resolve the issue. After examining the issue he worked with me to get it resolved immediately, even though it wasn't included in the estimate. I'm happy that I went with Brick Specialists and would def recommend them to anyone that wants quality work and prompt customer service. read more

Denver Brick Specialists just completed a great job on our 1890's home in Wash Park. I was very impressed! I always get three estimates. James was the higher-priced estimate, but by far the most knowledgeable, thorough, and he also was able to find the most areas of concern for repair with his initial inspection. Compared to the other two estimates, I had a feeling that the other estimators were out to just make some quick money while not truly understanding the issues with our brick- their approach more or less would have treated the symptoms as opposed to repairing the actual cause of the deterioration. James offered guidance as to why the bricks were deteriorating and how to mitigate the issue. They tuckpointed the entire house, as well as made chimney repairs to the brick. The process also results in a ton of dust and debris- the crew spent the final day washing the dust and debris off of the side of the house, and even moved the deck furniture back to its place. James did a final walk-through and asked if we had any questions. Having none, he insisted we call him if any other questions arise. James was always on time, and completed the job under budget. With how difficult it is to find a good, reputable contractor in Denver these days, Denver Brick Specialists was a find! I am confident their hard work will help keep the original brick on our home for another 100 years! read more

James and the Brick Specialists team are amazing. The brick walls and chimney of my (neglected) 1887-built Victorian home needed some serious TLC. Initially, we sought repairs to a collapsing living room wall. James undertook a complete survey of the property, providing us with thorough information about what else needed (more urgent) attention to prevent serious foundation problems, among other issues. He took time to describe exactly what kinds of work would be performed where based on the current condition of my brick (entrance to home, living room, bathroom, basement and chimney). He made himself available for questions at all hours and to re-explain the pending work. Over two, long (12+ hour) days, his crew worked diligently, completing extra project elements beyond his original estimate and scope of work at no extra charge. The results are extraordinary: bricks and masonry that match everything already on site...very inspiring! It's clear that James and his associates have a real passion for their work. Additionally, brick restoration is a messy job and his team cleaned up thoroughly. read more

I needed some external repair work on an 1890 brick home in NW Denver. Brick Specialists was professional and did great work -- I'm so happy that I hired them. They said they specialized in older bricks (pre-1935), and would use the right kind of bricks, mortar, etc. They replaced a few bricks in the chimney, repaired a few cracks in the mortar, bricked up my basement windows, repaired and patched some stucco, repaired some brick & mortar work around a window and a door, and did about twice as much truck-pointing as I asked them to. This was so generous and relieving for me. I was a little vague about what I needed tuck-pointed, and relied on their expertise. They really went above and beyond to find the high-priority spots that needed tuck-pointing and get it done. And all within a day's work. I will absolutely call them again for more work in the future. They were easy to work with, showed up at the promised time, completed the promised work, it looks great, and they charged me what they said they would. read more

James Pantazopolous and his crew did an outstanding job repairing a collapsing garage corner and tuck pointing our 100 year old Congress Park home in Denver. From what James explained, very old brick homes like ours is his specialty, and that many of our neighbors have been his satisfied customers. That gave me added confidence from the start. I was also impressed by James' knowledge of the problems with old brick homes and he carefully explained what could, and could not, be fixed. He also clearly explained the mortar colors and what to expect in our final job. The scheduling was clearly explained and adhered to, there was excellent communication between me and James, and the job was done as promised, on time - and correctly. We couldn't be more pleased with the look of our home and the job done by Brick Specialist. Nice to know there are still craftsmen with high standards and integrity that do outstanding work! read more

We had a great experience with Brick Specialists. They recently completed a project where they tuckpointed our 127 year old house on the outside where the bricks were flaking off, as well as an area in our basement where the concrete had crumbled off of the wall and exposed the brick (they also replaced the concrete), and sealed an inside chimney where we had recently exposed some brick during a kitchen remodel. James initially gave us several different options and pros/cons to each. He is extremely knowledgeable in brick repair and replacement. We had 2 other companies give us quotes, and Brick Specialist were the initially the most expensive, however the actual cost ended up being significantly less than the quote - always a nice surprise! Everyone was very professional, timely and thorough. The end results looks great (they went above and beyond what we had expected) and they did an excellent job cleaning up. read more

Repairing brick properly is both an art and a science. Brick Specialists has expertise that applies science artfully for a professional result. We recently bought a brick home that was in need of serious repair to the brick work. There were many loose bricks, especially under the front porch that looked terrible and could present a safety issue if left unattended. The mortar for much of the bricks around the house and garage was loose and crumbly as well. James from Brick Specialists showed up as scheduled and patiently reviewed his recommendations with us. He scheduled the work before he left and everything was handled smoothly and professionally. All the work on the house and garage was expertly done in one day. We are very happy with the results and highly recommend Brick Specialists for any work you may need done. The project was a complete success and we got great value for our investment. read more

We have had Brick Specialists do work for us at our home and at our work place. The houses at work were built in the 1890's. We were very impressed with the tuck pointing that was done. It was a big job and was part of the foundation of the houses. They were very detailed and conscientious about their work. We had so much confidence after they finished we asked them to tuck point at our home. Again, the work was done with precision. They didn't make a mess and cleaned up when they were finished. Brick Specialists did a fantastic job with the brick work I needed to have done. James was very helpful and courteous and arrived right on time for both the estimate and the job. I was looking to get the work to get done asap, and he was able to find a day that worked great for my schedule. The work was done thoroughly and I was really pleased with the outcome. They got everything done quicker than expected as well, which was great. They asked me my preferences along the way and made suggestions regarding aesthetic aspects of the work which I appreciated. They also cleaned everything up at the end of the job and left the space looking good. James made sure that I was pleased with the result and that I didn't have further questions. Overall I was super pleased with everything, including the work, the communication and the price. I'd definitely use them again for future brick projects. read more

What a great experience! Believe it or not, Brick Specialist was the only company out of the four we contacted who followed up! Good for us, as they did a superb job from beginning to end. Jimmy, the go to guy, was a pleasure to work with, and we truly feel he did his utmost to help us keep our costs down while providing what we wanted. Upon completing a tuck-point job earlier this year on our duplex in Park Hill he came to look at another project in our basement. He gave us his honest opinion that the work in the basement was not needed and saved us a huge amount of money because the area I was concerned about was not at risk or in need of repair. I can honestly say that from start to finish the company was a joy to work with. We recommend them to anyone needing work done. You could not contract with a more honest, friendly and considerate company that is an expert in their field. read more

We just bought a 130-year old house that had a bulging wall and some basement issues. I called James for an estimate. He showed up on time and gave me a reasonable estimate. James is incredibly knowledgeable about brick construction and repair. Once he got into the wall he actually had to do more work than was indicated with his estimate, but there was no change in the price. He and his workers were on time, hard working, and thoroughly professional. James kept me updated throughout the project. Since I knew little about restoring old brick houses, I was at James' mercy. When I got other estimates, the other companies suggested more work than James said was necessary. The project was an absolute success. The wall looks great, and I recommend him as highly has I possibly can. read more

Brick Specialists just did tuckpointing repairs on my 100+ year old Duplex and garage, bricking in several rotted out windows in the garage as well. They did a fabulous job and I highly recommend them. James, the owner, was very thorough in stating what he would do, how he would do it, and the time it would require. He matched my old brick and mortar perfectly. His crew showed up on time, were quiet and respectful and cleaned up all mortar dust and debris. They were very skilled at their work, true masons. I got three bids. James price was the best and very fair. I will definitely use James for brick work on other properties I own. You will not be disappointed if you choose Brick Specialists. They are the best. read more

What an awesome job Denver Brick Specialists just completed on our Park Hill property when our 85 year old wall on the alley was bulging and cracking and was in much need of repair because of being uprooted by tree roots. James bid job, had his EXPERT work on this old wall; the work was done when it was scheduled, efficiently and promptly and to our great satisfaction. We wanted the rebuilt portion of the wall to blend in with the rest of the wall, were intent on keeping the old tree, and doubt anyone would now suspect how much damage the tree roots did over the years, as they look at "the new old wall"! Thank you Denver Brick Specialists for providing us with a most awesome and wonderful repair. read more

James and his crew exceeded every expectation we had. Our project was not a simple one. We had to cut a large opening in a brick wall to connect the addition to our existing house. Previous masons had told us it would be really difficult and might run into problems but not James and his team. From day one James was confident that he and his crew could make it happen and do it right. And that's just what they did. They completed the work on time and on budget. I was already pleased with their work but one of the best parts was they truly left the work site cleaner than when they arrived. Can't say that about many sub contractors. If I or friends have more brick work, James will be my first call. read more

We own a hundred year old brick house that was in desperate need of some mortar repair. James and his team were very easy to work with and really did a fantastic job retucking our house. We had some pretty tough cracks and old mortar around the house that they took care of and look great. They did a great job matching the color of the mortar to the point that you really cant tell what was repaired and what wasn't. We also had an old vent on the side of the house that was removed and they matched the brick very closely and filled in the whole. Very happy with their workmanship, communication, and responsiveness. I would highly recommend them for any brick work repairs or retucking. read more

I can't recommend Brick Specialists enough! My husband and I are selling our home in West Wash Park. We needed last minute brick/mason work done and needed it immediately. We were referred to Brick Specialists and told that they do great work but their prices can be on the higher end. Luckily, James was able to squeeze us into their busy schedule to get the work done in time. After seeing the work they did, I know why they might charge a bit more than other companies. The attention to detail, and even more important the attention to the clean up made us feel like we got more than our money's worth.
