This morning I received a call out of the blue from Mr. Pierce undoubtedly in response to being served by the constable for the small claims suit I filed. He indicated that he wanted to meet me to deliver the down payment money I had given him back in July plus some additional to cover the filing fees. He was apologetic about the matter and explained that he had gone overseas to have a surgery done that he claimed he was unable to have done here in the states. Considering the earlier reports of his health-related issues, I find his story to be believable enough. In any case, the bottom line for me is that he ultimately took responsibility for what happened and returned to me what was rightfully mine. I still cannot comment on his work since none was never performed, although his quote was very reasonable compared with others I had received. I'd be more concerned with his failing to make proper arrangements for handling the day-to-day tasks associated with his business. If he's going to be out of pocket, he still needs to make sure someone is answering the phone calls, responding to the emails, etc... A little forthright communication will go a long way with any reasonable customer. read more

The gutter installation is A-OK. They were completed: professionally, in a timely manner, at a good price, and delivered as promised. My "Eek! Methinks not" - Gutter Man Gutters also installed a drainage system (not a french drain). The estimated time to complete the project was 2 days. It took 10. There were issues out of their control: marked utility line was off by a few inches and hit, hand injury, and weather. Issues within their control: 1) Coming fully prepared with all necessary supplies and tools. A business that claims they are experienced will be able to swiftly handle most issues that arise. They should not have to leave the site if they are prepared. NOTE: All supplies were on hand for the gutter work. 2) On the morning of Day 3, there was a rain storm. The water filled one of the ditches. Mr. Pierce planned to get a water pump to expel the water. They couldn't locate one, so on Day 4 they attempted to expel the water by hand. 3) Day 5 - Mr. Pierce arrived with 2 day laborers to fill the water logged ditch with gravel to improve the necessary angle needed for the pipe to expel water off the property. The work was about 85% completed by the time Mr. Pierce left that day. 4) Day 6 - 7 - We noticed about an inch of standing water in both side yard pipes. The gutter downspout was flowing in the opposite direction of the drain end. Mr. Pierce stated that there will be standing water and it will evaporate. Based on the law of gravity, that answer was unacceptable. Mr. Pierce planned to return with help to adjust the pipes. 5) Day 10 - Mr. Pierce showed up with one staff person and one day laborer. They re-dug about 60% of the pipes. I monitored the readjustment of the pipes and shared my level so that they would get the proper angle (See #1). Mr. Pierce said he wanted to be sure that I was happy with the work as the one thing that can kill his business is a negative review (this review originally was 1 star). In the end, the work completed on Day 10, is overall what was initially expected - a professionally installed drainage system to expel water from the property. My side yards are torn up and are in need of basic landscaping. Mr. Pierce did reduce the price due to delay and the torn up side yards. Gutter Man Gutters needs a significant amount of additional experience in this area. As a customer, be sure that you follow up and challenge anything that seems off in their work. read more

AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. Like other reviewers, I had a terrible experience with Richard Pierce and Gutterman Gutters Houston. He took a deposit for 50% of a project and promptly ceased all communication. Weeks later after I emailed and called he gave me a story about a family emergency in China. He promised the job would be done by end of the week. Two more weeks later he said he had been out of town and was told the job was completed. Of course it wasn't. He said he'd check and call right back. Needless to say, he didn't. Eventually he emailed me a story about a sick relative. When I asked for a refund he tried to get me to say I was canceling the contract so he could claim a right to keep my deposit. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. They were able to get the job done within 48 hours of providing a quote. I paid only 10% down and I had contract in hand stating exactly what would be done. Mr. Pierce and his assistant came out to access the problem with my gutters. He reassured me my gutters could be repaired for little of nothing. Most repairmen would have come out to make a sale but Mr. Pierce was honest and to the point. He gave me an estimate (under 150) and delivered the work as promised. Mr. Pierce came out and gave us an estimate. We called him 3 weeks later to accept the proposal. He asked for $200 up front so we wrote the check to "Lonestar State Gutters". He asked us to re-write the check to him personally for the $200 which we unfortunately did. This happened on November 1, 2016 and then he immediately vanished. We tried calling him for almost 2 weeks. We left messages that weren't returned. It was only after my husband posted a bad review with the Better Business Bureau that he called us back and offered to refund our money. He told us the check was in the mail (Houston to Humble, TX) 2 weeks ago. This man is very dishonest and is a thief. I called again yesterday and spoke to someone in his office named "Ralph" who said he would check on the refund and get back with me. We are planning to seek an attorney. He was supposed to call me and let me know what date they would be out to do the installation. However a week later and multiple calls and messages left every day, there has been no response from Mr. Pierce. No calls, no responses to emails to their website or facebook page. On Friday, March 31, 2017, my wife signed a contract with Rick Pierce, the owner of Lone Star State Gutters to install gutter guards on the outside of my home. She paid $1,200.00 as a deposit with a tentative installation date of Monday, April 10. She didn't hear from Rick on Monday the 10th. It rained Tuesday the 11th but still no phone call. The weather was good all the rest of the week but I didn't get a call or have installers show up. Saturday, April 15th she left a voicemail inquiring about the status of my project and then received a text from Rick Pierce that the wrong size product had been sent to him and he would be more than happy to refund my deposit in full and cancel the contract since he was having issues with getting the work done. She drove to his business/home. She spoke to him in person. He offered to have his crew come on Monday to clean out my home gutters but we would have to wait another 7 days to get the right product. She turned him down saying that he went too long without informing me of any problems and wanted to cancel the contract outright and get the deposit back. Again he was completely agreeable to a refund. He hand wrote across her copy of the contract that she had written in advance "Canceled At No Cost" and signed it. The contract says there is a penalty for canceling past 3-days, but he stated that was not going to be a problem for her. He said that he would go to Capital One on Monday morning, April 17 and bring her certified funds for $1200 on the same day. She hand-wrote an agreement on a piece of paper that we were mutually consenting to cancel the contract and that he would also bring my full refund of $1200 to me on April 17. She and Mr. Pearce I both signed the paper. Early morning April 17, he texted her that he was on his way out of town for a few days and the refund would be sent to me as soon as he was refunded from the supplier for my project. I texted my displeasure with him for breaking his promise and he replied that he had 10 days to refund her according to Texas State Law. He then stated that his attorney advised him to keep the conversations in writing. He told her several more times again that he would refund the deposit in full. My wife took screen shots on my phone of all of our text conversations and printed them for record keeping purposes. She visited his house again later that day on April 17 and spoke to his wife that evening. She called Mr. Pierce on her cell phone and put him on speaker. He assured her again that he would refund me in full. We mailed a letter of demand on April 18 requesting payment within 10 days. USPS tracking indicated that a notice was left to pick up the letter at the post office as there was no one there to sign for delivery on April 20, and to be returned to sender on May 5 if the item remains unclaimed. She also sent a copy of the letter of demand via FedEx on Monday, April 24. That package was delivered on April 24 and signed by R. Pierce. To date we have not received our refund of $1200, and to reiterate, there was no work done at my home by Lone Star State Gutters. Further action being taken as of May 5th. read more

I had gotten 2 quotes and wanted 3. I called Mr. Pierce for a quote and he came out the next day. His quote was the least expensive of the 3 so I went with Lone Star State Gutters. Mr. Pierce and his crew showed up, on time, the date we scheduled and my gutters were installed expeditiously and professionally. They look awesome and now the rain does not pour in between my gutters and house and drain properly. I would highly recommend Lone Star State Gutters. read more

They performed the services they agreed to do, cleaned up and had no accidents, incidents or damage to the property. Excellent service. I also have a problem right now with Gutter Man Gutters of Houston. Their word is NOT their bond. On 12/11/15, while driving home from work, a crate flew out of the back of their pickup truck and hit the front of my car. Ricky Pierce, the son of the owner, was driving, stopped, and called his dad, Richard Pierce, the owner of Gutter Man Gutters. He stated that he would take care of the damages with no problem and would prefer to not involve the insurance company. They provided me a copy of their insurance policy and contact information, and I took a picture of their license plate and we moved on. I put my car in the shop, got an estimate for the damages and gave them the repair shop's contact info. They even came by my house to see the damage. A couple days later, they called the repair shop and stated that they were on their way to pay for the damages, but never showed. We attempted to call them, but they started ignoring our calls. We filed a claim against their insurance and found that they have NO insurance. If you can't trust what the owner (Richard Pierce) says, and they have the audacity to drive around with no insurance representing themselves as a reputable business, what does that say about their work or their work ethics?
