I had a very disappointing experience with DFW Scuba Shop…read more I purchased an Advanced Open Water course based on a confirmed schedule (May 2-3) and a single advertised price that included the full course. Shortly after payment, the shop informed me they could not honor those dates. While I tried to accommodate alternative dates, they were unable to provide a consistent or comparable schedule. Instead, they proposed fragmented options across multiple weekends and different course formats, which did not match what was originally sold. When I requested a full refund--since the course could not be delivered as agreed--they refused, claiming that part of the fee (eLearning) was non-refundable. This was never disclosed at the time of purchase, and the invoice itself shows a single bundled charge with no breakdown. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering this shop get all terms in writing, including cancellation policy, refund policies and cost breakdowns, before making a payment.

Rick is a wealth of knowledge (on diving, dive skills, dive gear, you name it!) And provided all of us with excellent instruction as well as feedback. Dawn offers useful, alternate explanations--in addition to one-on-one reinforcement for students who need more time or assistance in fully understanding and mastering a skill. They don't gloss over anything, and they spend as much time as the group needs in order for each student to feel comfortable, which I really appreciate. Having the two of them also allows individual students to have that valuable one-on-one time with Dawn while Rick continues his instruction, so students that need more time on a skill don't feel like they're holding up the group or feel embarrassed like they are the center of attention when the rest of the group is ready to move on. I'm already thinking about what scuba diving courses I want to take next! I highly recommend the Scuba Shop for those who are looking for more than just getting certified and "getting it over with." We found Island Divers a couple years ago as my wife and I got scuba certified. It is a weird…read morethought to get certified in the Dallas area but they presented us multiple options. Certainly getting certified in Cozumel is an option with them but so is the Scuba Ranch in the Dallas area. I like to think if you can scuba in that lake you can scuba anywhere. The instructors were amazing and very accommodative to our needs. We opted to pay a little extra to do a a more private accelerated class. It did speed up the process and decreased the commutes out to the ranch. Fast forward to today and we continue diving. Their instruction and expectation setting has helped on many dives. Most recently I joined them on a liveaboard the MV Fling TX Caribbean out of Freeport TX. I have to say the diving conditions were amazing and who knew TX had such an amazing place to dive. It is a 6-8 hour boat ride out but totally worth it. Going with them also allowed me to expand my training and knowledge. There on the trip I did the nitrox and advanced diving. Once again the instruction was amazing and safety was always a priority. After doing 11 dives over 3 days I feel much more capable and ready for anything. Thanks to Gordon, Dick, Lance and Bob that are top notch. The shop is amazing and always full of suggestions.

This is a small location. There were only a handful of customers when I was here. The store had a…read morelot of sale racks, which is nice because Academy has high prices on their regularly priced items. You have to dig through those sale racks. I found the exact same items on the sale racks at very different prices. Luckily, I found a few high quality items for $10 a piece. Score! When the cashier began ringing up my finds, the sale prices were not showing up properly. A very nice and patient cashier got her manager to do some overrides so I did get the advertised sticker price. If you search the sale racks, Academy is worth it, but I do find their regularly priced items to be higher than other places and sites.

She greeted me, complimented me, and helped me to find a product I was looking for. These are the type of employees that you take care of, the kind you give raises and promotions to, to show your appreciation and the benefit of hard work and being a great employee that makes your customers feel good and feel valued! There was also a guy in the camping department, I didn't get his name but he might of had dreads under his beanie but he stopped doing a project he was working to also assist me. Although the product I needed was not in stock, I will visit this location again and refer my friends and family!
