Gear, I'm always looking to upgrade, or see what's new... and this place has a nice selection. 3. Try on. They demonstrate everything clearly and explain each skill thoroughly, citing real-world examples based on their own experience as divers and active members of the diving community. Rick is a wealth of knowledge (on diving, dive skills, dive gear, you name it!) And provided all of us with excellent instruction as well as feedback. Dawn offers useful, alternate explanations--in addition to one-on-one reinforcement for students who need more time or assistance in fully understanding and mastering a skill. They don't gloss over anything, and they spend as much time as the group needs in order for each student to feel comfortable, which I really appreciate. Having the two of them also allows individual students to have that valuable one-on-one time with Dawn while Rick continues his instruction, so students that need more time on a skill don't feel like they're holding up the group or feel embarrassed like they are the center of attention when the rest of the group is ready to move on. I'm already thinking about what scuba diving courses I want to take next! I highly recommend the Scuba Shop for those who are looking for more than just getting certified and "getting it over with." Shortly after payment, the shop informed me they could not honor those dates. While I tried to accommodate alternative dates, they were unable to provide a consistent or comparable schedule. Instead, they proposed fragmented options across multiple weekends and different course formats, which did not match what was originally sold. When I requested a full refund--since the course could not be delivered as agreed--they refused, claiming that part of the fee (eLearning) was non-refundable. This was never disclosed at the time of purchase, and the invoice itself shows a single bundled charge with no breakdown. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering this shop get all terms in writing, including cancellation policy, refund policies and cost breakdowns, before making a payment.

Scubatoys is a Dallas dive shop that has always piqued my curiosity when driving back to my hotel…read more So this time I made the time to stop in and check it out! Scubatoys is near exit 442 (how's that for an auspicious number?) on I-35E N. For some reason it looks smaller on the outside than in. Pretty impressed with the size of the facility and the variety of gear they have. A neophyte diver could pretty much get fully outfitted here. Very surprised that they ha a good selection of backplates, wings, and hardware for them. Pretty uncommon in a typical dive shop, who all seem to specialize in selling ScubaPro Hydros-X BCDs. Luckily enough I have two complete sets of diving gear, so I was pretty immune to most of the shiny new toys there. But it's called Scubatoys for a reason. In the end I picked up a couple of replacement mouthpieces for my regulators, and a travel tube of zipper lube. ST is a complete shop, they'll do training as well as sell gear. They even have a diving club, although I hate to imagine where they dive in the Dallas Metro Area. Good shop and someplace to pick up scuba toys. Repeat and recommend!
