My girlfriend and I originally walked into High Tide Scuba back in June just planning to do a simple scuba skills update. That was it. In and out. Or so we thought... From the very first class with Dean, everything changed. He is hands-down one of the best instructors I've ever worked with. He has an incredible way of teaching--calm, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in his students. He pushed us just past our comfort zones, but never to the point of being uncomfortable or unsafe. It was the perfect balance of challenge and support, and that's where real growth happens. Dean didn't just teach us skills--he helped us become better divers. Because of him, our confidence, awareness, and teamwork underwater have grown tremendously. What started as a simple refresher turned into a passion. Now, both of us are actively pursuing becoming dive professionals. That alone says everything. Looking back, it's honestly wild to think how one decision in June turned into an entire new direction in our lives. What a journey it's been already--and we're just getting started. Kevin, Michelle and their entire staff are fabulous! They are all friendly, knowledgeable, skilled and very passionate about everything scuba. High Tide is a one stop shop for everyone from beginner to advanced offering classes, certification, dive trips and equipment. But most important is the personal investment they make in the customers they serve. I couldn't have picked a better place to do my open water certification. I had "issues" during my pool trining and lake dives and almost gave up, but they didn't give up on me. They worked with me until I was confident that I could master my underwater environment. This business is fabulous. They have helped me get certified for Open Water, Perfect Buoyancy, Nitrox, and Navigation. They are also helping me complete my Altitude Diving certification this Saturday and my Deep Water and Wreck Diving Certifications in a couple weeks in the Grand Cayman. They offer a multitude of courses and certifications as well as provide rental gear that is very affordable. They also sell top notch gear with comparable prices and even discounts for buying multiple items. They are also very knowledgeable and will help with any dive or gear related questions. They even plan all-inclusive diving trips worldwide. I highly recommend this establishment. I want to offer a shoutout to the people who have been instrumental in my learning to dive as well as my purchases of excellent gear. Thanks to Mitzi for always giving me great advice on scuba diving gear and helping me set up my SSI account. Thanks to Kevin and Michelle for making sure I have the training I need and scheduling dive time for me to complete my certifications. My daughter took her written certification test here a few days ago. She was told that she passed and they reviewed the 13 questions she missed with her. I confirmed this with her instructor. Today, the day of the pool dive, I received a call stating that she had not passed and would need to retake the test. I asked the employee why they told us she passed. She couldn't answer. She only said that the instructors didn't know that an 80 was required for passing. I couldn't understand why a dive instructor wouldn't know the passing standard for a test they are supposedly qualified to give. She could not give me an answer. I left a google review of High Tide SCUBA stating all of this. I immediately received a phone call from Kevin, the owner. He said they were kicking my daughter out of the program because of the critical review I had left. Some companies might seek to remedy their mistakes, or ask what they could do to get a better review. Not Kevin. He just kicks you out. I'm pretty sure this is not the type of business you want handling your SCUBA certification. read more
