My youngest son recently earned his Open Water certification through Scuba Adventures. He's a minor, so I went along as an observer for his open water checkout at The Scuba Ranch. I've been certified for 30+ years and my oldest certified several years before Scuba Adventures existed, so up until that point, I'd had no real exposure to the folks there. I have to say, choosing them was the best decision I could have made. The team of Brent, Barry and Shug was truly the Dream Team of diving instruction. Throughout the process, they took full advantage of every moment as a teaching opportunity with a focus on safety and practical, applicable knowledge. Everyone on the team brought something to the table that would benefit the students. Their combined knowledge and experience added value to the learning process that far exceeded the modest cost. Some might be concerned that all this "professional knowledge transfer" would be boring, but you can set your concerns aside. Diving is all about having fun, and these guys are experts at that as well. Between dives, we had a great time at the pavilion sharing stories, discussing travel and enjoying excellent snacks, including a fantastic breakfast taco meal on our second morning. Even during breaks, though, the instructors we always looking for ways to keep the students focused and learning. At one point during the weekend, Barry mentioned to me that, during his travels, he had often witnessed how poorly trained many beginners were. His goal was to have the best trained, most competent beginners on any dive boat. I can say without reservation that he and the team accomplished that goal, at least with my son. We recently returned from a trip to Roatan, and the dive masters there commented repeatedly that they couldn't believe it was my son's first blue-water diving experience. He was fully prepared before the dives and handled himself extremely well during and after. His buoyancy control and overall demeanor was like that of a much more experienced diver and clearly reflected the quality of the instruction he received from Scuba Adventures. We went to multiple other shops in the area trying to find certification classes that worked with our schedule before finding Scuba Adventures. Little did we know we would find our scuba home. First time we walked in Autumn was so informative and easy going. Right away we could tell the atmosphere and culture was different in a good way. She was able to find my husband a time to do his refresher, and me to get my open water certification. Later on she also set up mermaid and scuba discovery class for our kids. Our schedule is a little busy so having flexibility in scheduling was just what we needed. I did my pool work with Rusty as my instructor. He was awesome. Spent extra time with me to make sure I had my skills down and performed them safely before going to the lake. Even when I got frustrated with myself he kept his cool and was extremely patient with me. Both my husband and myself loved how fun the washer game was. At the lake Ken was my instructor. Again another awesome instructor. The quality of instruction was the same across the board with all the instructors. Ken made it fun and relaxing while making it a safe dive for everyone everytime. Left feeling super confident and ready for some 80/80 dives. The dive masters were awesome too and willing to answer any questions. Our girls loved mermaid discovery class. Even when dad joined in to try and tried to embarrass them. You turned my fish into mermaids. Looking forward to more classes and many, many, many, many more dives with Scuba Adventures. Can't say enough great things about Scuba Adventures Plano & class act that is their staff! I've taken two classes with them & earlier this summer, my husband & two boys (ages 17 & 12) got their SDI Open Water Certifications here. They were certified about a week before we left on a cruise where we had a shore dive scheduled in Cozumel. The dive went out without a hitch, but the best part came from our guide when we were done: He said, "You know, families come here to dive off those cruise ships everyday. I'd never offer to take anyone out on a boat because they never know what they're doing. As guides, we're babysitting out there in the ocean all the time. Your crew though, you were different. I can tell your boys were well trained. Next time you're back, give me call. I'm taking you all out on the boat to dive my favorite spots!" Y'all. I can't say enough about the excellent experience we had with the team at Scuba Adventures. My son started the Junior Open Water Scuba Diver course 2 years ago, and we decided it best to have him retake the course when he turned 12 years old. This past weekend, he and I completed our certification programs together marking a very memorable time for us. Everyone who engaged us during this process (Brent, Autumn, Tom, Preston, and Blake) was extremely professional, caring, and fun! We achieved a thorough understanding and appreciation for the sport of scuba diving. The coaching and guidance received allowed us to feel comfortable in the school pool and the lake at Scuba Ranch. The process from sign-up to completion was streamlined and organized, leaving no ambiguity or concern. Our instructor and divemaster were very encouraging, honest, and patient. I came over to Scuba Adventures, from another dive shop, a couple of months ago and it was a blessing that I did. Brent, Chris, Mike, and the rest of the staff don't treat me as just a customer but more like a member of their family. Always willing to go above and beyond to help me out and get me the gear I need. They carry top of the line dive equipment at very reasonable prices. The one thing that sticks out with me is that the service doesn't stop at the sale but continues through and never ends. I'm a Public Safety Diver and was put on standby orders for Hurricane Laura. At the last minute I was in need of some replacement gear and feared I was out of luck (because I couldn't make it into the store) The team went out of their way to make sure I was prepared for the storm. I can't recommend this place enough. After moving to the area, I read a lot of reviews and emailed several dive shops before going with Scuba Adventures. I choose them because they were the most responsive and helpful. Good inventory on hand. On point with their pricing. If you do find a better price they will work with you. They also have one of the only indoor pools (18 ft.) in the area. Good community there on weekends and you'll most likely find a dive buddy for a fun dive. read more

Great shop! I highly recommend Ken Barkhuff as an instructor. I had some major anxiety about scuba diving, but after a one-on-one session with Ken, I am confident and ready. Ken's approach to scuba diving is empowering. He taught me the tools to feel confident and was understanding and kind. Great Scuba Shop! They have a nice indoor pool, a lot of cool gadgets, and all the diving equipment you need to get started. I have been very interested in learning how to Scuba Dive this past year, but was hesitant with the training.
