Lone mountain is a great place to go for a hike. It's not too extreme but challenging enough at times to get the heart pumping into a nice zone 4 or 5. Everyone I passed was friendly, it was a great way to start my Sunday. The view at the top was relaxing and great to see Vegas from centennial to the strip! I was a little worried about the way down but it was so easy. I went around noon on a Sunday and it wasn't very busy. I would love to come back here again. Looking for a hike but not trying to leave the city? Lone Mountain offers the perfect "mountain" trail! It's quite the incline but worth it for the view. It can get quite busy with joggers, hikers, and general population meandering around the park. I recommend sunrise start for the best views and least crowded! read more

We recently visited Las Vegas and discovered this amazing park and hiking trail. We tried out new hiking poles that we bought while we were there. We were both impressed with how (mostly) clean the trails were and how nice of a hike one could go on (it was a Wednesday evening, not sure how crowded it gets on the weekends). The park adjacent to the hiking trail was also amazingly clean and well maintained and loved that it had a dog park. However , we didn't feel quite comfortable letting our crazy dog go 'unchained' in that dog park. Next time in Vegas, we'll be going back to this part/hiking trail! read more

I arrived here before the sunrise. I parked on the parks parking lot and there was plenty of parking at 5:45AM. Free parking. I got a little lost on where it started since it was still dark out and there was no sign. So if you are coming from the parks parking lot it will be on the right side and go up on the dirt and follow along the trail. The hike took me 1.45 hours long. From top to bottom. There is a slight steep hill you will have to climb but I didn't think it was too difficult. Just take your time and you will be ok. Once passed the bench area, keep going up to the top. The view up top is nice but can be a little windy so be careful and Wear proper shoes. Coming down was a breeze. I would recommend. And would def come back. read more

Loved this hike! 3 mountains in total to get to the TOP! Just FYI the 3rd mountain you have to actually climb it. Great for dogs, kids, date hike. I don't recommend this hike for elderly though just because it's REALLY easy to slip. I strongly recommend hiking shoes and gloves. read more

If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle when visiting Las Vegas, then Lone Mountain is for you. It's minutes away from downtown with different entrances to several trails. You can loop around the mountain on the flat walking trails or you can go up the west side to catch the killer views of the valley. We decided to go up the west side of the mountain. About halfway up the hike, we did see a couple of benches but after that the rest of the way was pretty steep. There's no way getting around it, you have to work on this one. It's pretty much straight up with loose rocks but if you stay on the main trail it's nothing dangerous. Short hike but a bit tough. Once you get to the top of the isolated rocky peak, you get a killer view of the Las Vegas strip, nearby mountain ranges and Mt Charleston. When you make your descent, be mindful of the loose gravel. Take your time. Dress appropriately. And stay hydrated. read more

THIS IS MY FAVORITE WALK/HIKE IN TOWN! It is very well groomed. Has access to trash bins and bathrooms (porta potties). It it's gravel so I recommend good trail shoes. It's also dog friendly!!! They do supply bags for our little ones which is an awesome perk! Depending on what time of day you go it can be really crowded or no one at all. I've seen both. I have gone in the morning and in the evening. I do not prefer one over the other. I park on Alexander right before the intersection of Alexander and Alexander. If you want a path of a few hills but overall flat I would go left starting at this parking point. If you want a little more of a challenge I would go the other way, to the right. The photo I took of the strip is a giant hill (to the right) LET ME TELL YOU, you feel the burn!!!! The hike is 2.2 miles around the trail! You can even hike the mountain on the east side if you're feeling up for it. I would recommend this is everyone if I could! read more

If you're looking for a nice flat trail, look no further. I was with my older sisters who said they could climb up the mountain, but because it was steep and rocky we decided to walk around the base of the mountain. Not really much to see but good exercise if you're trying to get steps in and some fresh air. The problem we had is not taking the time to look at our surrounding when we started our walk. We parked in the lot off of W. Lone Mt Rd, and once you go around you can't see the lot from the trail and we missed it. We ended up walking the mountain base twice! I guess good conversation got us off track. It was a nice walk but going around twice was too much. My sisters are in their 70's and took us about 2 hours. I won't make that mistake twice. read more

This is a great hike that took less than an hour and a half to complete. It's definitely steep at points and you may slip if you don't have the proper shoes on. Beautiful view of Vegas and the surrounding area at the top. I wouldn't recommend this hike to anyone that has small children because of the steep drop offs. 5/5. read more

Red Rocks needs an appointment, regardless of if you have a National Parks pass. One of the rangers at RRCNCA suggested Lone Mountain as an alternative. The mountain is in a residential neighborhood, next to a park and equestrian center. Parking was really easy and plentiful and it was a short walk to get to the outer trail. The periphery of it is easy, basically a jogging path and the ascent isn't very well marked so it was kind of like finding your own way up. The west side of the ascent seems to be the most popular and the trail is pretty narrow for the most part with just a few wide spots. The south part of the trail has a sign in book, but other than that there's not much else to it. Be sure to bring a hoodie or something; it's going to get windy out there. read more

Located in Vegas' Northwest, Lone Mountain is a fairly moderate hike without any required scrambling. It should take those in good condition approximately an hour to complete, but best to assume ninety minutes if you plan to take in the scenery up top. Offering panoramic views of the valley, on clear days one can see from Summerlin to Henderson, inclusive of Las Vegas Boulevard and Mt. Charleston. This is a neat little trail! Nice sprint up and down in about an hour. Great views of the city from the top. On the day we hiked, there was a group of newbie police cadets doing the trail, they had a drone at the top to take pics of their group. If they are representative of the police force, they are in great shape. We went up shortly after sunrise and in the shade during the beginning of the hike. Parts of the trail can be difficult to follow, but from Las Vegas Vista road the trail starts going east with a steep section to a saddle with a park bench; from there turn right to the top of the mountain. One of my fellow yelpers recommended parking on Las Vegas Vista, which was a great suggestion. Be careful on the trail as lots of loose rocks along the way. Actually had some more energy, so after getting down did part of the circular trail around the mountain. Hiked clockwise over to another park with large area for horses. Then headed back to our car. Conveniently located in Summerlin with lots of places to grab a snack after the hike. Enjoy! read more

This is an unexpected, fun and unique hike right in town. My husband woke me up early on a Friday morning and off we went. We made our way up the mountain fairly quickly after we walked all the way around from the park on the other side. We didn't see there was parking at the base of the main mountain till we got to see the other side (Duh!) If you are in fairly good shape, this climb is pretty easy. A little more challenging towards the top and you have to maneuver around some rocks towards the top. There is a cool bench installed which I would like to come back and sit to watch the sunrise sometime. Viewing would be pretty spectacular. Once you get to the top, you can see all around the valley and up to Mt. Charleston! Just a cool little spot to view the city we all call home and to see how much we have grown through the years! I first hiked the Lone Mountain Trail in 2005 and I have just driven by on my way to other hikes until today. Our Las Vegas city gym was closed because of Labor Day so a friend from the gym and I decided to do the relatively short Lone Mountain hike. Except for the humidity of the monsoon season, the morning was perfect for hiking. The hike is in what I refer to as three sections--Levels 1, 2, and 3. Level 1 is at the first landing, the first saddle, where there's a bench for taking a rest and enjoying the view. For some people, that's as far as they go and that's OK. From here, the trail goes up wonderful limestone rock for the most part with a minimum of gravel or scree of any kind. At the end of this section, you arrive at what I refer to as Level 2. From here, it's one more push until you get to the top and you can fully enjoy the views of the Las Vegas Valley. Looking south, you see Summerlin and Red Rock Canyon, to the west the Spring Mountains, the the north the Las Vegas Range with Gass Peak and the Sheep Mountains beyond, and finally to the eats you get views of the resorts along the Strip and Frenchman Mountain on the east side of the valley. Find a not too sharp area at the top, have a snack and some good conversation, and then return the way you came. You can come to the peak by either the east or south sides but that should be reserved for experienced hikers because the drops can be fatal if you slip and fall. The easiest access to the trail is to take the 215 and get off at Cliff Shadows Parkway. Go north on Cliff Shadows to Alexander Road, make a right and head east to vegas Vista Trail which is the last street before Lone Mountain. Head north of Vegas Vista and there's a parking area at the end of the street where they've put some concrete barricades. From here, the way is very evident to the trail. PS: Be on the lookout for bees. They are generally more active in the spring but it pays to watch where you're walking. In May of 2012, a man was stung continually as he was going to the peak. It was estimated that he was stung about 300 times. He was able to dial 911 from the peak and was rescued by helicopter and survived after being in bad shape for several days. There used to be a sign warning about Africanized bees, but it is now missing. Just be alert! Happy hiking! read more

Came here on a Saturday morning after the social distancing order was lifted....parked at the main parking lot, took a 30 minute to walk around and then up we decided to Make the climb to the top... medium challenging but it was definitely an accomplishment because when you get to the top you can see the vegas strip and Nellis Air Force Base and Beyond...The total time was about an hour to get up in about 30 minutes each to get down to the parking lot so lower self a good hour and a half to two hours to do this hike up the lone mountain.... and when you get to the top, Pat yourself on the back because you did good & this place is good too...:))) read more

How many small, local community parks have a mountain plopped smack in the middle of them? Only one, so far as I've known in my 38years on planet Earth. Some urban planning genius decided some years ago: let's stick an equestrian center, open playing fields, kids' jungle gyms, some courts, and a tight hard-pack dirt track circumnavigating a modest mountain/hill in a park and call it macaroni. I mean, Lone Mountain. LM has become my go-to park for modest recreation, a quick getaway, nighttime overlooks of the city, and easy fitness training on a looped track that won't numb your mind with unremarkable repetition. In fact, every time you loop around LM, there's something new to see, a different flavor, people, residences, views, sun and shadow, etc. It's grand! The facilities work for peeing and pooping. The view from up high is excellent for modest climbing effort (a mere 640ft, +/- 20ft). Horses aplenty trot around in their own ring. THIS is what a park is meant to be; it's no wonder housing surrounding is pricey. But why no 5-stars, KL, you ask? Well, that would be the rampant graffiti'ing of the natural rock features, the glittering glass and trash on/around all natural surfaces of the mountain, the occasional ample poundage of equine shiiiiii iiiiiit on the loop trail (apparently poop bags are only for dogs? come on, upscale horse people), and the use of the mountain and cave dwellings for angsty teenagers and quasi-adults to escape, get high, and break more glass. That aside, it's swell! I'm going right now, in fact, for midday sun, community social, and Sunday recreation for my pup. You should, too! Maybe pick up some trash along the way so we can make this a 5star joint (not that kind)! Together we can. Can. Can it. Get me? Go! read more

Short & Sweet! One of my favorite hikes in Vegas. Easy enough for beginners but definitely a great work out every single time. I've seen people try to access the trail from the park side; don't do that. Take Las Vegas Vista (off of Alexander) until it ends. Park there. Walk towards the freeway and you'll see the trail head on your right. Start to finish, this hike usually takes about 30-45 min (if you're lazy like me). It's perfect if you're on your lunch break or short on time. I wouldn't recommend this hike for the kiddos. Razor sharp rocks and an extremely dangerous drop off at the top that would make any mom nervous. Just have them sit this one out. Instead come with friends or even better, go solo. Solitude is necessary sometimes. The views at the "Top of the Rock" are breath taking. And always worth the hike. You can see the whole Las Vegas valley from up there. My favorite days are when the big fluffy clouds are out. Just be sure to be mindful of the weather. Don't get stuck in a hail storm like I did once. Ouch! read more

Jesus be some IcyHot on my thighs. I'm a beginner hiker and this was about moderate intensity for me. I hiked the most travelled path that starts on the West side then up the North side to the peak. I had to stop a couple times to give my thighs a rest & take pictures. It was hot, of course (99*), but overcast with a breeze. The hike is was quick and steep. A nice quick trip that took me 1 hr with rest breaks. Wear shoes with grip and BRING WATER...although I'd hope that's common knowledge. This was fun. Will do again if I'm not wanting to go all the way to Red Rock. read more

First time hiking the Lone Mountain located in the Westside of the vegas valley. I think this can be rated as a moderate hike with a well traveled trail. The trip depending on your pace can take about an hour and a half. The view from the top is quite rewarding with panoramic views of the valley. On a clear day you can see all surrounding mountain ranges and a snow capped Mt. Charleston as well as the strip. I hope to make this a regular workout routine because after this first run I have muscles hurting that I didn't know I had. read more

To get there take the 215 Beltway to West Lone Mountain Road, park at the Lone Mountain Regional Park, there is parking and restrooms at the park. Another alternative route is to park at the end of Vegas Vista Trail off of West Alexander Road and head up on the western side for a more direct route. The trail does have some loose terrain and quite an incline, so it may not be suitable for older dogs. After reading and researching a lot, I decided to choose Lone Mountain as my first ever hike. I workout a lot, at the gym, both lifting and cardio, including very high intensity workouts so I expected a challenge. I still wanted to choose an easy trail though, since it was my 1st climb. Whoever is saying this is an easy trail is lying to you. This trail is moderate-severe in difficulty, in my opinion. There were a lot rocks and climbs and at times, I felt like I'd slip (but didn't). I did not feel comfortable doing this hike in my regular gym shoes and suggest that anyone doing this brings proper hiking shoes. You could easily fall. The view is beautiful though and it is worth it, if you're prepared. And please bring water! Up to the top and bottom: 45 mins or even less. Once around the entire mountain, on the flat road, 45 minutes. All in all about 1.5 hour workout. read more

I have lived on the north side of town for over a year and I am glad that I finally made the trek up to Lone Mountain. Having lived on the south side of town I used Exploration Park as my place to get a 360' view of the city. Lone Mountain hike takes that to another level. Follow all the directions and park at the end of Vegas Vista Trail road- the mountain will be towards the east. The first part of the hike was easy. Once you get to the saddle, there is a bench feel free to rest here and there is no shame in turning back. If you want a challenge, head up to the top- the rest of the hike is dusty, dirty, with a steep incline and loose rock. The 360' view at the top is worth a few blisters, sore calves, and a raised heart rate. Go when it's cool since there is no shade on the mountain at all. read more

Super fun hike with kids, and free to boot! Basically park at the end of Vegas Vista Trail and park on the right by the red rock patch. Turn left and walk down the path for about 300 yards. You will see a marker with a 1.6 mile hike. Go straight up (Or most likely zig zag) and follow those sprayed on blue apple core logos. There is a bench about half way through to sit. I would say this hike is not for beginners but easy enough to do for all if you are determined enough. It's about a 35 minute hike up and maybe 40 down for us. Your quads and glutes are definitely working out. We came during December and it was cold up top with winds howling. Oh and it rained a bit on the way down so it can be slippery since some of the rocks were loose. Up top, you can sort of see the strip and sort of see Red Rock. read more
