I'm surprised I've never written a review for Lola's. It's owned by the same company has my one true love, The Blind Pig, and is conveniently located underneath said bar. I remember being super pumped for their opening because it's such a good use of a dilapidated space that laid there unspoken for so long. Lola's is not that large, but I don't typically have an issue getting a spot because it's very hidden. There aren't businesses around the building itself and since it's tucked underneath two bars, you wouldn't even notice it unless you ran into the chalkboard they have on the street. There's a tiny patio hooked onto the entrance. Inside, you'll find a few tables good for talking and some booths located in the back for working. They have a pastry counter that I'm assuming are brought in and a small coffee menu. They also have a large alcohol menu - not surprising considering Lola's siblings happen to be some of the most prominent bars in the city. They have a wine night the last Wednesday of every month I've been meaning to come to. (I know I said I'm not a big wine fan but they offer free charcuterie - I like the words free and food!) I have not actually had anything besides coffee in the daytime hours here so I can't speak for how things go on down here during happy hour. The first time I came here I had their mocha. It was good but nothing to write home about. The last few times I've gone I've switched my order up to a vanilla latte - it's up there with the best vanilla lattes I've ever had. The first time I had it texted my friend who swears by Caffe Umbria in Chicago and told her she needed to head down to Lola's ASAP and get the latte. If I weren't such a lazy ass and would walk the extra block from work, I would easily get one 4+ times a week. There are a couple of kinda eh things that I've experienced that make it 4 instead of 5 for me. One, the booths in the back are not conducive to working. You have to move the seats themselves just to access to the outlets, and many of the seats are falling apart. It's all tucked into a little area so it's cool and secluded, but it'd be even cooler if the seat was attached properly to the booth. The tables are also very wobbly which makes life difficult if you bring stuff to work on. The Blind Pig used to have these same types of issues before they upgraded all their seating. In a neighborhood bar I find that sort of issue to be endearing. In a coffee shop I find it annoying because it's supposed to be cozy and comfy. The other thing was the food options leave a lot to be desired. Che is the only restaurant/bar in this family of businesses that's supposed to be known for their food, but I at least expect a warmed croissant if I order one. The barista came out with a ham and cheese croissant that was a little overdone on the top. I didn't mind this whatsoever and honestly wouldn't have noticed - had she not pointed it out, taken the fork she put alongside it, and attempted to scrape the top off. It was weird. The craziest part was that the middle was still really cold so I was disappointed regardless. Besides my tiny gripes, I would definitely recommend Lola's. There aren't many local coffee shops downtown and I really appreciated this group (I really should ask if their business family has a name) putting in a different kind of coffee shop that could thrive during different times of the day. I'll just stick to my lattes and be a happy gal. read more

I love this place!!!! Lolas coffee shop is like a little community, the manager Shelley is so kind and always up for a conversation! I come here to study and bring people with me every once in awhile just to enjoy the atmosphere, they have a garage door open sometimes which fills the place with fresh air and their drinks and food are fantastic! After a short drive over from Indy I wanted a place to get some work done. I went for the go to Starbucks on a Monday night. I fortunately found this gem instead. Awesome little place in the middle of downtown Cinci. I was lucky and had the place to myself, so very quiet and easy to get my work done. I had full intentions to order their in house drip coffee, but ordered wine instead! The wine was delicious and all I remember is that it was a Pinot noir. They had small pastries to order alongside the drinks as well. The two young ladies working there were very knowledgable about the coffee, so ask away any question you please! I try to go local when I can, and this place was a great choice for an early morning networking meeting. The vibe is cute, quaint, with daily newspapers available, quiet music playing, and comfy chairs hidden in corners. When I went to order the barista was very nice and efficient. My beverage was absolutely great. Having been a barista myself, I can definitely taste the quality in the drink, and they steamed the milk perfectly! It held foam all the way through my meeting! I wish I could describe accurately just how bad my coffee drink is that I got today. It was a blueberry lavender soy latte. The milk is so curdled then when I try to drink it, it is thick like yogurt in my mouth. I thought maybe it was just very thick foam somehow on the top so I dumped it into a glass when I got home and saw just how curdled and chunky the drink really is. I asked the barista for an iced cortado. This is my boyfriend's favorite drink. It's simply 2 ounces of espresso on ice with 2 ounces of milk or cream. She proceeded to tell me that I was just asking for an iced latte. I told her that it's not the same because it's equal amounts of espresso and milk. She gave me a very weak iced latte in the end. He was not happy with it either. Not to mention that service is always exhaustingly slow. If you are in any kind of hurry I would not recommend stopping at Lola's for coffee. read more

This is everything you would look for in a downtown espresso bar. The barista Brandon is one of the most knowledgeable, friendly and talented baristas I have encountered. If you ask questions, he talks you through the options in a way that educates you but doesn't make you feel dumb. I'd learn a lot about espresso drinks if I came here consistently. Ask him for a recommendation based on what you are looking for and he will not disappoint. The setting is quiet, warm and inviting. It is the type of place that you would want to read a book, find a corner to work in, or hang out with a small group of friends. There are four quiet, comfortable booths in the back, three tables in the front and a small seating area of three soft chairs by the front window. The menu has ample variety at reasonable prices. He served my drink in a small glass, and it felt like when we ordered coffee at the espresso bars in Europe. read more

Love the cozy/hip atmosphere with all types of seating arrangements you can think of: bar stools, outdoor seating, few round tables inside and few diner type seating deeper inside. The owner - Peter - is a super cool friendly guy whose dog Noodles roams the cafe and welcomes everyone in (suuuuper friendly!). The drinks selection is enermous! Lots of specialties can be made on the spot and not everything fits on the menu so ask away for whatever you feel like drinking. Includes caffeinated drinks as well as a great wine and hard liquor selection. Opened just a couple of months ago but is already creating a positive buzz! Love it! read more

Great & Cozy Coffee Shop! Had been wanting to check it out for months and finally..... Much needed warm beverage for the 1st real snow day of the year ! Went in w/ hubby last night to try some: 1) Hot Chocolate - very good; also so many options for milk and flavor add-ins to choose from. I went w/ almond milk hot choc w/ whip (duh!) 2) Hot decaf tea - delicious Red Tea Latte! We asked about decaf tea options (NY rez anyone..?) and the friendly barista recommended Red Tea. I think I'll be hooked on it for a while. It tasted perfectly earth, just a hint of sweet & lusciously creamy. The place is beautiful. Such balanced décor, cozy with an eclectic vibe. Although we did takeout, seems like a good place for both studying or socializing since they have wine & beer to offer. Very cute, quiet place. Some coworkers and I went there for a few daytime drinks after an early dismissal. Most of the staff was very nice, but there was one extremely rude male staffer that ruined our experience. He felt very bothered that we were there and actually rolled his eyes when we would order another drink. Im not sure what the problem was as we were being quiet and low key. This prompted me in cancelling the last round and going to the blind pig instead. Probably won't return. read more

I've visited regularly for several months. Outstanding service! I've tried and enjoyed various coffee products and empanadas. Great points program, too! Just once (today) I visited and apparently smoking was permitted on the front patio. The front door was open and the smoke that came in was overwhelming. I love a coffee shop that also serves alcohol and it's even better when they have a good selection in both. There's not many around so I'm always happy to find a new one. Lola's fits this category perfectly. My wife and I stopped in one afternoon when we were hopping around town checking out new places on a day when a lot of places weren't open. They had a good beer selection on draft and in bottles and cans, individual little bottles of champagne, and wine as well. But it's primary focus is coffee and they do that well. I started with a cortado (my favorite espresso beverage) and it was good. Later I had a fantastic beer, Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, from their selection of bottles. My wife enjoyed a mini champagne bottle. The barista was talkative, very friendly, and knowledgeable. We discussed some of the coffee menu options and he explained what a cubano was and that he could make a cortado cubano style. We both ordered this and it was fantastic and is now my coffee of choice on any future visits. I will definitely visit again, especially when looking for both beer/wine and good coffee. read more

Really like this place overall. So glad to have a place close to work that does good coffee! I would come at least twice as often if they provided a decaf espresso option. I like to limit my caffeine, and unfortunately, that's not an option here. The one time I requested decaf coffee they were only able to offer a pour-over or French press, which were both pricier options (and more time-consuming than I was prepared for). If you are staying in the downtown area and want to get coffee or tea that's not from starbucks, I recommend walking to Lola. They have really good chai latte. Its more sweet than spicy, but overall good. Since i was on a quest for something more healthy to munch on, I didn't get a ham and cheese croissant which i regret already. I wandered in once when I got out of work early and the place is small, cute, and comfortable. The coffee is really good, for about the same prices as Starbucks. I really need to bring my partner in here some evening for drinks, because it looks like they've got some great offerings. Service has always been really nice and attentive. I've been to a lot of coffee shops around Cincinnati, and Lola's is by far the best. Here's why: 1. Coffee is on point 2. The entire staff truly cares and will take the time to make your drink right 3. The staff is educated on everything they serve 4. The aesthetics are incredible; inviting, warm, cozy, yet energetic depending on where you sit (I could go on about this one) 5. Location is awesomely unique and has a speakeasy feel 6. Fast wifi 7. Showcases local artists' work on their walls, with the option to buy 8. Host Flight/Paint Nights 9. Great happy hour specials - Come 5:00, if I'm still there, I'll typically switch over to wine or a cocktail (definitely recommend the espresso martini made by Dan) 10. Was in Cincinnati for a long weekend for a conference and wanted a cute place to go and get some work done (and get out of my hotel room). Luckily, Lola's was a 5 minute walk down the street. I ended up spending a few hours every day at Lola's. The coffee was good, the workers were kind, loved the asthetic of the place. There isn't a TON of seating, however, I never had a problem getting a spot. The only slight issue is that it's fairly dark inside. It wasn't a major issue for me, but others might be bothered by that. read more

Lola's is easy to miss, but it's 100% worth the visit! It's located on 3rd Street in the old Locker Room space below the Blind Pig / O'Malley's Annex. They did a great job creating a cozy, coffee shop atmosphere with a lot of seating options. The barista was super nice and took care in making our drinks. Their menu offers all of the best coffee and espresso drinks. AND it looks like they have wine and beer as well. (Not something I took advantage of at 10:00 on a Sunday, but that's not to say I never would...) The prices weren't crazy either. We just hung out and read while sipping our coffee, and I can attest to it being a comfortable place to just hang out and relax. read more
