Lola's is like our "Cheers": a place where everybody knows your name because we can't stop going there. The employees here are absolutely some of the best I have encountered at a restaurant - especially Evelyn, who is there almost every day and goes out of her way to help us feel welcome there (she even wrote my wife a Happy Mother's Day message on her coffee). Their owner (Matt) is a really cool guy who is always down to talk music and about whatever concert he has been to in the past week (he goes all the time). He also has great suggestions on food and coffee selections (he is the guy in the front usually wearing a band t-shirts and Cleveland sports team hats). The food at Lola's is outstanding, whether it be for breakfast or lunch. They also have amazing coffee. The only downside is once you have one of their coffees, you are not going back to the cheap stuff anymore. read more

I usually don't write reviews about places, but I had such a weird experience I figured I needed to write about it. I do not recommend this place if you are looking for a cafe to study or work at. I was sitting at the only table I could find next to an outlet doing work -- not during a rush, and I was not taking up much space -- when the owner came over. He asked if it got busy if I would leave or go to a tiny table where someone was already doing work. I go to many coffee shops and have never been asked this before, but I had been there for a while, so I agreed. He then took my supplies and moved them to another part of the table. He did not ask permission, and I'm unsure why he believed he had a right to pick up and move my items around. The experience made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, so I left shortly afterward. read more

4-5 years ago this place used to have the best avocado toast I've ever had (and I've had tried many different kinds of avocado toast from other places over the years!). The prices were still a bit high and the services were on the slower side but I could justify going here because it's more of a mom & pop cafe (plus I like to support local businesses) and I LOVED their avocado toast so much. Unfortunately, now the quantity of the avocado toast is TINY!! They only give you 3 slices now when they used to give you 4 - plus the slices they do give you are paper thin when they used to be thicker/wider slices of bread. On top of that, even with lower quantity, the price for the avocado toast is now astronomical. I just don't think I can justify coming back here again, but I do wish Lola's the best!! There's seating, but you can also to-go your order. Because I was on my way to work, I just ordered the cherry almond pie ($5.50). The pie is pretty hefty, the crust was thicc and filling was stuffed with mixture of cherry and almond. Although it was a bit too sweet, i like how the crust wasn't soggy at all and ratio of cherry to almond was perfect. I glanced at the other menu items, price ranges anywhere from $10~$15, slightly fancier than some cafe's, but I heard the quality and portion is good so I have yet to try them soon. read more

This is one of the coolest coffee shops in the city of Ladera Ranch or surrounding areas! I came here for the first time because I was looking for a new coffee shop that offers nitro cold brew. Someone mentioned that Lola's has Stumptown cold brew on draft, so I hopped in my car and headed out there. They are located in a small shopping plaza area that's nestled amongst schools, stores and townhomes. There is parking on the street or in a nearby parking lot. When you walk in, they have the menus in a pail and you can decide what you want before you walk up to the cashier. I was surprised at their extensive menu! They serve breakfast from 7am-11am, lunch from 11am - 2:30 and even wine, beer & prosecco mimosas all day! The coffee shop is super cute and welcoming. They have tables and long bench style seating. The service is friendly and efficient, and you can peer into the kitchen to see the kitchen staff preparing the food. I purchased a small Stumptown nitro cold brew on draft because that's what I went there for. It was good, but not as smooth and creamy as other nitro cold brews that I've had. I would definitely return to try some of their other coffee drink offerings and menu items! read more

This is our family's favorite breakfast/lunch spot in the area. It's a 15-20 minute drive, but well worth it since there isn't anything closer that's half as good. The family owned and run shop is almost always busy, especially on the weekends. It's counter service so the line can be out the door, but this gives you time to look over their menu and see what everyone else is ordering. For those that have not been here, it's not a typical breakfast place with eggs, bacon and pancakes. It's elevated food, but not pretentious. Organic and farm to table. Their coffees are the best around with each one handcrafted to your special request. Their avocado toast, breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burrito are great staples. For something more unique try the mixed berry flatbread, homemade granola with fresh berries or their take on toast. Lunch offers several flatbread options with my favorite being the curried chicken or Nutella and bananas for dessert. My daughter loves the Margherita. Their sandwiches are also better than most. The favorite of our family are the Louis' grilled cheese made with Brie, fig jam and green apples. Not your mom's grilled cheese. My favorite is the tuna melt which is huge and can be shared or the Tuscan chicken. They also have soups and salads to round out lunch with our favorite salad being the kale and shaved Brussels sprouts. My husband won't eat here anymore because the prices are high for what you get. He got a tuna melt that should have listed the tuna as only a condiment. It was barely visible. I LOVE the avocado toast. Used to be 4 slices, but was very disappointed to pick up takeout and get home to find two pieces. Really good cookies but hard to get when there's usually a fly buzzing around them. There should be a better way to store them. Stumble on to this gem in Ladera Ranch this morning!! Wanted something for breakfast so we ordered lox, mascarpone on French baguette!! One word Yummmmmm!!!! Let's start with the baguette - perfect side and toasted for a perfect crunch. The mascarpone is creamy and the lox was generous and delicious paring with the fresh onion and pickled capers. My husband and I stopped in and wanted to try a new breakfast spot. We got coffee, a burrito, and the French toast soufflé. The coffee was good and had a nice atmosphere. The food ruined the experience and reason for the 2 stars. You can tell when things are microwaved when it's rubbery and the inside is extremely hot. The soufflé was not made in the ramekins as some of the photos show, and I think is misleading. It really is a disservice to customers to microwave food and should change this asap with the kitchen staff. read more

I'm leaving 2 stars because Lola's could be so much better if they improved their timing of food and drink orders and customer service generally. For example, it is common for people to order under separate numbers. And they know this and can coordinate the numbers on the tables. Making an effort to bring food to the table together isn't an unreasonable request and would enhance the dining experience greatly for the customers who have the awkward decision of how long do I wait for the rest of my group to get their food. Sometimes it's a lengthy delay. Also, why can't the drinks be tied to the number and brought out to the table for customers who are staying? No one dining in prefers to leave their table mid-conversation to go get or check on their drink. My last visit, my food arrived after 10 minutes so I went inside to get my mimosa, but there was no sign of it and it wasn't being prepared. I'm then waiting another 3 minutes thinking someone will prepare it now that I've brought it to their attention. Nope. Where is the prioritization? Starbucks employees have this figured out. I would think Lola's employees could as well. For the prices being charged, Lola's should be much better than it is. That said, if you're not in a hurry and not bothered by the unnecessarily high prices, Lola's can be a nice spot to catch up with a friend. read more

Today I stopped in at Lola's cafe for lunch to order some food to go. And I must say that I was genuinely excited to try this place out. So I walked inside and was impressed with the look of the place. So two ladies were browsing through the menu. Not yet sure what they wanted to order. So I asked them if they were in line. But was ignored by them, so I proceeded to walk toward the register to place my order. I had looked ahead online and therefore knew what I wanted. There was another lady ahead of me currently placing her order. So I waited behind her. When it was my turn to order, the two ladies initially standing a the door came next to me and said, "excuse me, we were next." The gentleman at the register had looked in my direction a few times and realized that I was next, with no one standing next to me. He said to me, " Yeah, there is a line, and they were next. I did not want to be rude, so I let them go ahead. This resulted in me now having to go to the back of the line of now 5persons. Luckily the lady that was behind me was a sweetheart and said I could get in front of her. So to not make matters worse, I double-checked with the gentleman behind her. Who was polite and subliminally said, "go ahead; you were next anyway." When it was time to order, the gentlemen at the register asked for my name and then gave me the most ungenuine greeting. I had heard of these situations happening to other people. And quite honestly never believed this sort of discrimination would happen to me. Lola's is a neighborhood favorite. Ladera is lucky to have them. On my most recent visit I was happy to hear their pumpkin Spice Latte was back. It's my favorite and beats any other I've ever had! I also tried their GF Chocolate Banana Bread. Wow! You won't believe it's gluten free. It is delicious and now will become a must have. I should also mention the owners are amazing people that have a true passion for what they do and a great love of community. This is one of those overhyped places which gets away with putting out less than mediocre and small portions of food. A sandwich is just bread without fillings, the chef of this restaurant needs to understand this. I ordered a sandwich and their twist on French toast. The sandwich literally had no filling, I know that avocados are expensive (and so does everyone on the west coast) so I'll let that pass. But skimping out on cheese/tomatoes/leafy greens is pathetic. The bread tasted good though, I can't disagree with that. The soufflé toast was better than the sandwich, but was a bit undercooked in the middle and was really oily. I couldn't finish the whole thing. I do not find a reason to order from this place again. If you're the restaurant manager, please give the chef enough ingredients to prepare a proper dish. read more
